Question for winter,AC or dehumidifier for this damp cabin?
Planning to get the cabin cleaned up next week. Barely stayed there last year because it so damp. Figured spend more weekends this winter, but fairly high up and gets a lot of fog. When rains, even the bedding feels damp. Not much fun driving up for the weekend and spending the first night trying to dry everything out.
The wood stove arrived, but that still leaves the hours before the place warms up and after the fire dies down. It gets cold inside between visits. Haven’t logged the temperatures yet, so don’t have an exact number.
Already have an aeocky 001 at home and could bring it up. What gives pause is how a compressor dehumidifier would handle the colder room. Been reading about coils icing up and machines spending time defrosting instead of collecting water. Does auto-defrost actually work well enough in a cabin like this, or does it become a lot of running for very little water?
Also looking at the aeocky X1-Pro since it’s a desiccant model and advertised for colder spaces without frosting up. Curious about the electricity use, though. Would rather know what one costs to run over a cold, wet weekend than just the maximum extraction rate.
Can’t keep the stove going all night. Not getting up every few hours to add wood. Anyone using a dehumidifier in a cabin that sits empty during the week? What’s worked, and what turned out to be a waste of money?
