Living in BXL Registration in the city hall as a student

• Upvotes

Hi!
I went to the city hall to receive the provisional proof of registration (Annex 8), in early september and was told that the police officer will come to check my address in person in about 3-4weeks.

It is now approaching the 8 week mark and there have been no movement for that.

Should I just keep waiting or be pro-active and try to reach out to someone myself?

Cyclist Laurent Nyssen was the victim of a serious act of road rage in Schaerbeek, which likely caused him to lose sight in one eye: “I had an argument with a driver. He got out of his car; I have no memory of what happened after that.”

Translation of Apostille if the degree is in English

Hello everyone, I'm applying for student visa to Belgium Embassy in India and I'd like to ask for any advice regarding this.

The embassy advices that all original documents have to be in English with apostille, or needs translation.
I studied in Serbia and my degree originally is in English, but my apostille sticker is in Serbian (Cyrillic). Do I need to translate the apostille sticker/whole document?

I emailed the embassy and they aren't replying.

Hi all,

It's in Brussels north.

Does anyone have reliable contact?

Thank you

Rant 🤬 Anyone here had problems with BBF (Brussels Business Flats)?

I posted about BBF here a while ago and got quite a few responses from people who had similar experiences.
We rented an apartment from them and had a lot of issues from day one: mould, poor maintenance, broken appliances, cleanliness, etc. Despite repeatedly contacting them, nothing was really fixed.
We eventually moved out, but we’re now dealing with a legal dispute over rent and charges.
I’m wondering if anyone here has been through something similar with BBF, especially if it ended up involving lawyers or court.
Would really appreciate hearing about your experience or any useful contacts/advice. Feel free to DM me if you’d rather not comment publicly.

Looking for volunteers to create a documentary film!

Post image
4 Upvotes

Dear ocean lover!

Do you feel it too? That intimate connection with the ocean, even if you don’t necessarily live nearby. It seems to be a universal phenomenon. We believe that the ocean leaves its footprint even as far as in Brussels, and it is this belief that we wish to capture on film.

Over the coming year, we’ll be making a film/documentary that aims to explore the endlessness and infinity of the ocean, as well as its impact, from a Brussels perspective. To do this, we will be speaking to a number of Brussels residents who will highlight the city’s maritime heritage through their present or past, their profession or their passion, their curiosity or their fears. What are your unexpected connections with the ocean?

In order to bring this film project to fruition, we are looking for a few more volunteers to strengthen our team. Above all, we are looking for motivated individuals with a strong team spirit. Experience and/or skills in the media field can be valuable, but are not essential. This project is supported by the NGO ‘Jagora’, which is strongly committed to developing skills and interests among the youth (16-30 years of age). Anyone wishing to get involved is therefore welcome.

We hope to complete the film by June 2027; this is therefore a medium-term project requiring sufficient availability. Initially, we will adopt a journalistic approach to gather testimonies and stories. This phase will be followed by the development of a narrative structure, filming and editing the film.

If you’re interested in this project or would like more information about it, please don’t hesitate to contact us so that we can provide you with details and discuss a possible collaboration. We look forward to hearing from you!

News 📰 Single parent families in Brussels face higher risk of poverty than in other regions

The Brussels region has 67,718 single-parent families, and their situation is more precarious than in the country’s other two regions, according to new research from the Brussels Institute for Statistics and Analysis (BISA).

The median income of single-parent families is €20,684 per year in Brussels - the lowest figure of all household types across the country.

More than 36% of single-parent families in the capital are therefore at risk of income poverty, as their income is less than 60% of the national median.

I noticed people want to see positive things. People repairing stuff, not breaking things down. Last nights, we've been busy cleaning up lots of road signs in and around Brussels. Thanks to the road workers that work at night while most of us are asleep! ✅

PS we work on regional roads, I wish we could clean up everything & everywhere 😅

Question ❓ Mold situation in my rental apartment

Post image
10 Upvotes

Looking for some advice on what to do.

In summary, I moved into a new apartment a few months ago and have since discovered there was a leak in the bathtub 2 years ago that infiltrated the wall and behind the bathroom cabinet. The leak was fixed but nothing else was done at the time. Once I moved in, I noticed a musty/moldy smell and when I opened the bathroom drawers there was a black stain on the actual wall, since the bathroom cabinet has no back. I removed the drawers, used mold removal spray several times and let it air out for several weeks.

At the same time, the built-in wardrobes that are ofc in the shared wall between bathroom and bedroom had a similar smell, although there's no visible mold. Told the landlord, who had a carpenter come and remove them, but the second one is somehow glued/attached to the wall. So they cleaned the back of the wardrobe with paper and a spatula and called it a day. From what we could see, the mold was orange and covered a small portion of the back of the wardrobe, maybe like 30x30cm, but ofc it's hard to know for sure.

Landlord told me that it would be a lot of work to destroy and remove the wardrobe, so I can put some scent beads for the moldy smell lol

So at this point, I can't use the bathroom cabinet bc everytime I open it I want to gag and it feels like it's getting worse the longer it stays closed. Same for the wardrobe. At the same time, I don't love the idea of confronting my landlord and "forcing" her to fix it, but I also don't want to live with mold. What should I do?

TIA

Looking for school recommendations near the Uccle/Linkebeek border (maternelle)

Dear community,

Me and my french speaking family will soon move to a new house in Linkebeek. We're currently assessing our options about schools for our two children (both at maternelle at the moment).

The options we currently consider are :

  • ECL – École communale de Linkebeek
  • École communale de Verrewinkel (UCCLE)
  • Ecole communale du Homborch (UCCLE)

On paper they all look good, but we’d love to hear from people who have had kids there, especially in the maternelle section. How are the teachers, the atmosphere, the class sizes, the communication with parents?

We’re particularly drawn to Homborch because of its Dutch immersion program. If you have experience with it, how well does it work in practice for kids from a French-speaking household?

Thanks in advance for your help.
