Mechanic for 40k mile service for my 2021 Tiguan VW

I am looking for a good local mechanic that won’t completely overcharge me for my 2021 VW Tiguan’s 40k mile maintenance protocol. Otherwise will resort to the dealership but wanted to know of any recommendations before I made that decision.

The death of the open space, in the name of flood mitigation....

Could someone make this make sense?

This last Oct. 5th, C.U. Boulder and City of Boulder barred the community from entering the C.U. Boulder South Campus open space, all in the name of "Flood Mitigation".

They are literally paving paradise and putting up a parking lot.

The plan is obviously just a backwards land grab move to develop that area of beautiful, wild land, some of the last remaining wild space in the city limits.

The plans had been in the works for years now:

2015: formally approved by the Boulder City Council.

2020: unanimously voted to advance the "Varient 1 100-year flood project configuration".

2021: Approved jointly with the CU Board of Regents as part of the CU South annexation agreement.

2025: Council unanimously approved Ordinance 8690 to authorize $66 million in bonds for Phase I construction.

All of this is supported by FEMA (which tells you alot).

They claim that every $1 spent on the project equates to $6 saved in Hazard Relief.

They also claim this project will save lives. I wasn't aware that my life was in danger.

----------------
Their first step, day one, was to put up draconian black fencing around their entire 10+ acre area.

This was an area that had previously, for decades, been frequented by thousands of residents and their animals (off-leash walking area, was a dream for dog owners).

C.U. Boulder's second move is to practically clear-cut all shrubs and trees from the outer proximity of their fenced zone. Again make that make sense, how is this at all related to flood mitigation? Seems like that would just destabilize the ground and be a further cause to flooding.

Their next move has been to demolish the tennis courts there. Banging, beeping, and heavy machinery moving all day, from 6am-6pm, 6 days a week. Again, how is this at all related to their intention to mitigate flooding on the highway.

I think C.U. Boulder administration and planning department are a bunch of liars, and they have clearly mislead the public, and they should be ashamed of themselves.

I think an "F. U. C. U. B." facebook group would be hilarious.

I'd love to see signs posted, days of civil disobedience, some forms of active protest. I will not be living in this community much longer after seeing them divest in the community like this. They clearly are renovating the area for something much bigger, much more profitable than "Flood Mitigation". We as a community are now subject to this constant noise, constant destruction, in an area of town where SO many people went to find peace, tranquility, connection to nature, and safety.

I'm sure I'm not the only one who feels this way.

Make it make sense Boulder City Council and C.U. Boulder.

Time to elect a new City Council.

Respecfully, F.U. C.U.B (and the Boulder City Council too...)

Looking for friends

Hi, after my prior (much more negative) post, I want to try and make Boulder more enjoyable for me. Does anyone want to join me for a movie? Maybe dig a hole? If so, dm me!

I’d like to hang out with people around my age (18-20).

I am going to pearl street on Halloween for that masquerade thing on the 31st, let me know!

EDIT: I am Male (it’s a shame that this detail determines safety).

Seeking recommendations for doctor around peptide use

I’m not sure if this type of post is allowed, but I recently started researching grey market peptides for health reasons, and I’d like to explore it further. I’m aware that doctors can’t prescribe things like this and I’m fine to purchase on my own, but I’d ideally like to work in conjunction with someone around what I’m taking or at least have someone who is knowledgeable about peptides should I have a question or reaction. If you are aware of anyone along the front range who might be a good fit, I’d appreciate a recommendation.

Flashlight PSA or etiquette... not in the eyes!

I might be crazy here, but since it's been getting dark earlier these days, I've been struggling with flashlight etiquette from folks out walking. A couple times in the last week, I'll either be biking home or driving through the poorly lit neighborhoods, see a walker with flashlight in the distance, but as I approach they point the thing right at my face making it really tough to see them, their dog (maybe), or anything else in their immediate vicinity. I get that you want to be safe, and see stuff or whatever, but you don't need to point it AT me to be seen! Just flash it around a little, make your presence known, and I won't run into you. Pointing it straight at my face just makes it harder to see anything. Anyway, just wanted to throw a PSA out there in case any of ya'll are night strollers.

Any thoughts on Village at Boulder Creek Condos (2510 Taft Drive)?

Hi all!

A friend of mine (who doesn't use social media) is debating applying to buy one of the Boulder Regional Affordable Homeownership condo units in the Village at Boulder Creek Condos (2510 Taft Drive). She said she hadn't seen anyone online saying whether they liked/disliked living there, so I offered to post something here to see if anyone has any thoughts on it. She's a pretty quiet person and is mainly worried about noise level given it's so close to Folsom Field, but it is very close to her work.

To clarify, this isn't the similarly named student apartment building University Village at Boulder Creek which is down the street at 2600 Taft Drive (which she says there's a lot more reviews of).

If anyone on here lives/has lived/knows someone in the Village at Boulder Creek Condos and has any insight please feel free to share! Thanks in advance!

Spooky Halloween Friday Night DnD For You and Your Friends?

Hello! I run Dungeons and Dragons games professionally and I have an opening this Friday evening 10/30 if someone would like to host a spooky Halloween inspired game of 5e DnD and have me be the dungeon master for your group! I'll have multiple spooky story options, and I'm happy to have new players at the table.

Games are around 4-5 hours and usually have 5 player spots available. This would be in person, and I would come to your space.

Psycho driver on Table Mesa this AM

My wife had a crazy experience during drop-off at Bear Creek this morning. As she and my son were crossing Table Mesa, a woman in her 50s or 60s driving an olive-green Subaru honked, accelerated, and veered toward them, trying to hit them. Thankfully, she missed.

My wife reported the incident to the police, who said they've received other reports and will be focusing on the area.

Has anyone else encountered this psycho?

Halloween Weekend Movie Events in Boulder!

Hi all, there are some really great, spooky/halloween movie showings in Boulder this weekend! I thought I'd round them up and share for folks that are looking for something to do for Halloween.

  • Friday: The Dairy is hosting a Movie Scare-a-thon Double Feature with two horror classics: The Bride of Frankenstein (1935) and Carrie (1976). Costumes are highly encouraged, and the popcorn is free.
  • Saturday (Halloween!): The Boulder Public Library is hosting a Halloween Undead Double Feature with two iconic George A. Romero zombie films: Night of the Living Dead (1968) and Dawn of the Dead (1978). This event is free and there will be free drinks and snacks.
  • Sunday: The 6th Annual " The 7th Annual" is a "night of short horror films, haunted visions, and filmmakers competing for a cash prize and the infamous Goblet of Woe". They're still taking short film submissions too! - read more about the event here and submit films here.

If this stuff interests you, I run a free website that collects all movies showing in and around town at filmsaroundboulder.com. There's a weekly newsletter that highlights the cream of the crop too - see this week's here https://filmsaroundboulder.com/newsletter/2026-10-27

P.S. I am in no way affiliated with any of these organizations or events, I just think they’re showing good movies and will be a fun time! Happy Halloween!

Hey folks! I've been collecting community events happening around Boulder onto a website so folks can find things to do that are recommended by real people instead of algorithms. Even the website is hand-coded! On the site, you can click on the name of an event to go to a site with more info.

If you know of an event that you think should be listed, recommend it in the comments or send an email to the address listed at the bottom of the site!

Predatory rental companies

Can someone please explain to me how these rental companies are able to get away with asking you to sign a lease renewal 9 months before the end of a (residential) lease? Is this typical? (Outside of student housing?) As a young working professional with precarious future plans and a difficult and competitive job market, I have no idea if I will be here in 9 months. I understand maybe even 6 months in advance but I JUST signed over the summer for this place? (The furthest in advance I’ve ever had to sign in my 10 years of renting has been maybe 4 months in advance?)

It feels predatory to me. Maybe I am out of line here and I understand that this is a college town and that is partially what drives these competitive rentals, but I don’t even necessarily live in a “college” part of town, intentionally, (meaning on the north side of pearl..) because I am not a student.

I am being asked to make a decision this week (with very little notice) as to whether or not I will be re-signing for next year. This feels extremely predatory since I just signed, I have no idea what my plans are for the year and as they also mentioned they will begin marketing and showing my apartment TOMORROW if I do not agree to renew now. And the other thing? This is totally legal in Boulder. (As far as I understand.)

This is my home- this is where I live. I of course would like to stay assuming I take a job offer in the area but that is so far away and so TBD how do I decide now? It’s also invasive having people touring your home. And if I agree today to sign this lease for NEXT year, and then decide to take a job elsewhere or leave Boulder, I will be hit with heavy fines for breaking a lease agreement. And moving is just a pain in general (but I digress, I’m trying to remain constructive.)

I also know through friends who are in the affordable housing workforce and city planning that vacancies for rentals are at an all time high and this is driving companies to try to secure tenants at alarming rates (but perhaps its the over-priced, un-renovated apartments that are the issue, plus a decline in people migrating to colorado.)

Please be kind but reasonable in your responses, I am genuinely just looking for support, perspective and or reason to better understand this. Finding (affordable) housing in this town is hard enough as a single working adult, (and almost always requires roommates.) I’d just like to have the peace of mind to know I’m not getting screwed over either way? Or love to see better local policies on this in the future because there are more than just college students in this town.

(P.s. separate rant but to my last point there, we need more representation to the in-between, as in between the college students and the more affluent residents of boulder. The lower/middle working class in boulder is a super difficult place to be. unless I am missing something here… Hopefully some of these prepositions on the ballot are progressive in helping this? IDK, enlighten me. OPEN DISCUSSION.)

History of wild turkeys in the area?

Before human habitation, turkeys were endemic to the area, I think. Im told native peoples had them domesticated. But in the 90s, there were no wild turkeys in the mountains to be seen. Now they are common. What changed? It couldnt be overhunting as we could hunt turkeys just as well in 1996 as in 2026. Did the laws around hunting them change?

Power Outage Discussions

This was from a recent hotline email. .Thank you Carolyn for speaking to PUC on behalf of the community.

On October 21, Carolyn Elam, our Sustainability Senior Manager for Energy Systems in Climate Initiatives, provided public comment to the PUC, formally requesting action to address ongoing power reliability concerns. Specifically, the City asked the Commission to open a formal investigation into the root causes of these issues, require a corrective action plan, and direct Xcel to develop a comprehensive plan to address aging infrastructure.  For those interested, the recording is available here. Staff is now in conversation with Xcel’s regulatory team and PUC staff to advance the city’s request for a formal plan and to determine the best pathway to present such a plan to the Commission.

Bike thefts in Boulder keep falling after pandemic-era spike

Great to see numbers dropping! Sounds like a combination of bait bikes + making it easier to safely secure bikes.

City officials have said one of the most important steps residents can take is to record their bike’s serial number, photograph the bike and register it for free on Bike Index, a nonprofit bike registry. Officers can search the registry to find the owner of a recovered bike.

City data shows how much knowing the serial number matters. Since 2017, when police began publicly tracking whether a stolen bike’s serial number was reported, bikes with a reported serial number have been recovered 11% of the time, compared with 3% for bikes without a reported serial number.

Reminder to register your bike on Bike Index!!
