S01E03 The Entire History Of You Spoiler
I first saw this episode over 10 years ago when I was in my late teenage years. I’m 31 now and my perspective has shifted yet I’ve come to the same conclusion every time. I relate more to Liam than to Fi. He wanted to feel connected to her and at his most vulnerable moments, she wasn’t there. Yes, he obsessed but she used that as an excuse to cheat..
I love this episode because it forces myself to consider gender roles and how we make exceptions for certain behaviors based off gender and gender biases alone.. Personally, I believe, if the gender roles were reversed that would invoke different emotions. It was purposely chosen that a woman was the cheater because it would be easier to justify her behavior because of Liam’s actions. In a reversal, it wouldn’t hit as hard.
I know Charlie Broker essentially simplified this episode to “don’t ask what you don’t want to know” and I agree but I disagree with that. Human emotion and relationships are far more complex than that.
Anyways, I’d love to hear from Fi admirers.
