International BBC was my main news source for decades and I can't afford the paywall. It stinks to lose it

I can pay about $4 a month, that's what I've paid for new York times and wall street journal. I have a kid and the subs I pay for him are even more, even though I faked a student ID to get most streaming apps discounted to $8.

I just can't afford $8 for a news service, that's what I pay for Netflix for the kid.

I'm all for a paywall so they can get funding but $8 is a lot to my family. I'm a regular working class guy and can barely afford groceries. The subs I do pay for are considered an extreme luxury for me and my family, this may sound ridiculous to some but it is for my family.

I loved the BBC but $90 a year is way too much. And no, I cannot afford the yearly one time payment of $50. I feel so poor saying that but it's true.

Doesn't help my wife has been paralyzed since she was 20 and only gets $1100 a month in benefits (and $200 in food).

We just can't afford it. Hell even buying a pound of ground beef feels super fancy to us the last couple of years.

I really hope they lower the price. I don't own a car, I rent an apartment, and my favorite thing to do personally is read the news.

Please BBC give us a discount at least for "students"

Why do BBC News insist on doing vox pops pieces on key events during the working day?

• Upvotes

Just watching the budget coverage at the moment and they are at a "community centre" speaking to "ordinary people" about the budget. They are all elderly, retired people who are solely focussed on the £100 they have just been promised.

Why bother having these segments where they just always interview retired elderly people because everyone else is surprisingly at work in the middle of the day? We know that there are huge political divides based on age, etc and so surely it is just biased to interview a bunch of old people and presenting it is "ordinary people's views"?
