I’m 29M. I lived in Australia for many years before gaining temporary residency, which eventually expired.
I don’t want to write a long and sob story, but my family is the main reason I came back, and it’s also the reason I need to leave. I need to move out as soon as possible.
Otherwise I’ll lose my sanity.
What can I do with around 3.5 lakh taka? I could get that amount by selling my scooter.
I’ve tried doing Uber biker as a side hustle. Most passengers were nice, and the earnings were decent until the government raised the fuel price to 165tk/litre. My 150cc scooter is a fuel hungry monster, so I’m considering selling it and buying a cheap, fuelefficient 100cc bike instead.
That would let me at least earn something from Uber, and I’d still have around 2 lacs tk left after buying the cheaper bike.
I’ve also tried getting a job. Out of passion, I volunteered at a popular wellness company. Later, they were hiring interns, I got an interview and I was hired on the same day.
The job itself was fine, but the salary was only 5,000tk a month. I was still okay with that because I’m passionate about fitness, yoga, and self improvement stuff.
However, they didn’t have a microwave to heat my meals, I know it sounds silly, but it’s a dealbreaker for me, so I left.
I’ve also considered becoming a teacher, as I have an overall IELTS score of 7.5.
However, I’m currently in a very dark place mentally. I haven’t spoken to anyone or gone outside in the last five days. I’ve barely even left my room. Even writing this was a big struggle.
Another option is to sell my scooter and move to an affordable country like Thailand, where I could practise Muay Thai and dancing, both of which I’m passionate about.
If I’m frugal with my spending, I could probably manage 2 or even 3 months with 3.5 lacs.
But after those times, I’d eventually have to return to the same situation I’m trying to escape. I might come back feeling better mentally and spiritually, but I’d still be returning to the same environment that drained me. So, I don’t think travelling away temporarily would be a permanent solution. On top of that, I’ll have 0 savings.
I can’t bring myself to tell my friends about my situation. They know me as someone who has lived abroad, comes from a good family, and is relatively smart. Heck, people used to compliment me on my physicality, now I can’t even look into my eyes in the mirror.
Maybe that’s my ego talking, but I feel that people tend to distance themselves from others when they’re struggling.
You can see it on an everyday basis. Beggars everywhere, labourers working for nothing 12 hours a day, even on Reddit many are asking for help, but they received nothing no help. We as people are born selfish, it’s survival of the fittest.
I plan to apply for Australian permanent residency, but that process could take more than a year. I’m also uncertain whether my application will be granted, especially given the current situation with migration. The process itself will cost a lot, probably around 10 lacs. I’ve set aside 3.5 lacs for the initial process, 2.5 lacs is tied up and will come back maybe in 3-5 months. For the rest, I’ll leave that to the future
I really don’t have anyone I feel comfortable talking to about all this, so I’ve turned to Reddit for some constructive feedback.
If you were in my position, what would you do with the 3.5 lakh taka? Would you invest it in a way that allows me to earn a living while moving out, use it to start over somewhere else, or consider getting a job or a job related to it? Where to look for a job that will at least pay 25,000tk.

A friend died by ($uî_ć1_ďẽ)), It’s probably been a year since it happened. Later, we found out that the reason was that his savings were almost finished. He was a very proud person, and you could never have guessed what he was going through just by hanging out with him until he ended up doing the unthinkable. I think about him sometimes.
I know I won’t end up like my friend because I’ve bounced back stronger several times in my life, and I have confidence in myself. I just have to survive this phase of my life.
