Ranked Forgive Me Brothers

My Frenchmen and Frenchwomen I have committed the cardinal sin. I have started building barracks every game.

I couldn't get out of gold playing French going knight-archer. I couldn't micro hard enough to kill enemy spear-horseman when they could just A-move into me.

Then one day an obscene thought hit me: what if I build a barracks and build spears to protect my archers, I could group them together. I pushed Q + B, built a barracks, mixed spears into my archers. The ensuing slaughter was glorious. I made it to platinum 2. I even beat a Malian player for the first time in ages.

I haven't been able to quit this barracks habbit. The wins have been too good. Everytime I have 8-10 knights I feel this thought: stop hitting W for a moment, build some spears and the wins kept happening.

https://moreknights.com/ I hope you have rehab. I'll need to visit you soon.

Fluff You don't actually have to buy the DLC

Can folks here stop telling others to 'vote with their wallet'? I love this game, others do too, the developers have knocked it out of the park over the years. But leave the marketing with them? I'm so tired of my whole feed (generally across all social media) pressuring me to buy everything and anything at all times. Most of us are millennials here struggling to pay rent and buy groceries. I have memories of the old democratic internet which included folks with common interests mingling and hyping each other on forums; I do not need product advertised by other community members too, telling me what to buy etc before release date.

Soz for the rant and love you all.

Discussion Khan and Torguuds were the last thing that should be nerfed for GH.

These units are absolute garbage after the initial nerf we had during outback octagon. Now? Theyre so bad. They do hardly any damage, and the khan is easily killable too. Its supposed to be a hero unit but i always just manage to get out the debuff arrow before he dies. He has to be in combat for the buff so that cant be done different. GH mightve needed some nerfs in other aspects, but this was the wrong choice.

Ranked [LFG] Daytime EU player looking for chill team game partners (~1100-1300 Elo)

Hey! I'm a 41-year-old player from Sweden (CET), mainly playing 3v3/4v4 team games at around 1100-1300 Elo. I'm looking for a few people to queue with during the daytime (roughly 9-17 CET) who like to play seriously and try their best, but stay relaxed and constructive when we lose.

I play text-chat only (no voice), so I'm looking for people who are fine with that. I care more about macro, decisions and positioning than APM. Add me in game:[NOX] DakkonBlackblade or drop a comment here!

Discussion Draft Pick Game Mode

Fairly certain im gonna catch negative feedback for this idea.

But I think it would be cool if you could queue for team draft pick. In 4v4 each team can ban 2 then take turns picking with no duplicate civs. In 3v3 the same except each team could ban 3 and in 2v2 each team could ban 4.

We are about to have 25 CIVS total, none of these combinations of selections and bans would use even half the roster.

It seems odd to me that tournament play has always used a CIV pool selection process that exists nowhere outside of tournament environments.

It would be cool to have a game mode that encouraged experimentation and rewarded a diversity of competency across different civs.

Discussion AUTOQUEUE

Well naturally with all these wonderful discussions I feel the need to bring my 2 cents to the table. Allow me to get this out of the way first; I don’t care how other games have handled auto-queue villagers. They are different games with different gameplay loops, mechanics, etc. So I really don’t give a rats ass if World of Starcraft 7 had it because that game is not Age of Empires 4.

I dislike most of the arguments I’ve seen on here regarding AQ though because they feel mostly exaggerated and unreasonable. Obviously if they add it they won’t add auto military attacking and auto everything, and on the other side of the argument, no you aren’t just clicking a button every 20 seconds, there’s more to it than that.

Now to state my overall opinion, I don’t really like the idea of it in the game outside of one or two civs having it as their whole unique civ bonus spiel. I do think it seems fishy that the Vikings have free vils and AQ but we’ll see how that goes in a few days.

I think a much better analogy for the kind of automation people fear from AQ would be something like if you could hold ctrl or something when you place a mill and it would automatically also place farms around it in a nice neat pattern. That’s not a huge step up from how it works now with a few key distinctions. First, that’s just less clicks you have to do. Second, and I think this is the big one, it’s less margin for error. Whenever you place the farms there’s a chance you misplace one and now you have to spend valuable time to replace it or you have to just live with having a bit more walking time and maybe one or two less farms around that mill.

Another example would be if vils would automatically go from berries to nearby sheep or deer or whatever without being queued there. It eliminates an example of skill expression in macro control that someone can utilize to gain an advantage. Same thing with maybe doing auto lumber camps.

All of these examples, as well as with AQ, represent small compounding mistakes that you can avoid to potentially gain an advantage over your opponent and to me that’s what makes this game great. There (usually) isn’t a civ that will automatically win the game for you, and there (usually) isn’t a strategy that will win either. It’s a relatively well balanced game that has multiple avenues for a win. Once you start automating these processes not only are you removing the opportunity for little compounding mistakes, you’re also starting to shift it away from a game where macro is relatively as important as micro to one that’s more micro focused and that’s lame. Not everyone has the digit dexterity of a 10k APMer
