So I lost my ID this weekend and wanted to go out on halloween. I have my old copy that expired when I was and I’m 20 now. Will it be accepted or should I bring a secondary form of ID?

Academics Getting fried in chem 107 quizzes

Im a freshman and I have been on a downward trend with the chem 107 quizzes (I got a 60% today). Idek what to do anymore. Im studying (though with distractions, but still, it shldnt be this bad). When I do practice questions I get most of them right I think, so I dont know why it gets so bad (I feel like I can/should get a 75-80 with the work I put in.) Obv Im doing something wrong, but does anyone have suggestions ? Im already locked into getting a B in engr102 cuz I bombed exam 1 and I still wanna try auto admitting (Aero dreams) so I wanna do the best I can (cuz I need a high ass gpa even if i want holistic anyway)

Ask the Aggies Question about bugs in dorms

Howdy y’all! I’m currently living in a dorm for the first time and the amount of bugs I’ve been seeing is ridiculous. A few weeks ago there was a fire ant infestation and now i’ve been seeing random bugs appear in the bathroom and main room, few of which have been ants again. I submitted a second Aggieworks order at the start of this week (Last time i submitted one was for the infestation and they dealt with that in about 4-5 days). I eat in my dorm, but I keep the place clean regularly and store all food in sealed containers. I’ve also never seen any of these bugs appear/go close to food sources.

I’m just terribly afraid of bugs and this is genuinely affecting how I feel in my dorm. I feel unsafe and anxious almost all the time, especially when i’m alone in my dorm. It’s also been affecting my sleep. I understand that seeing bugs once in a while is normal but I feel like this is getting out of hand. I also live on the highest floor in my dorm so seeing this many bugs is still insane to me.

For people who have dealt with similar issues, do y’all have any advice? I’m genuinely fed up and just want to feel safe in my dorm again.

Academics Is it worth Q-dropping a class to protect my GPA / Summa Cum Laude?

Considering dropping FINP 436.
I am a financial planning major with 20hr left in my degree.

My current TAMU GPA is a 3.857, and I'm looking at finishing with a B in FINP 436 (Insurance Planning). I've been considering Q-dropping it and retaking it online next summer, assuming it's offered.

I've mapped out my remaining classes, and assuming I make all A's from here on out, my projected graduation GPA would be:

  • Keep the B: 3.903
  • Q-drop and retake for an A: 3.952

Both would qualify for Summa Cum Laude, but obviously the 3.95 would give me a little more breathing room if I end up with another B before graduation.

I would like to keep my options open post grad. I plan on applying for airlines in 1-2 years so have no aspiration to be a financial planner. I might consider grad school or anything else that will put more notches on my belt. That is, if i can get some help with university scholarship...

For those who have graduated or been in a similar situation, would you take the B and move on, or Q-drop and retake it for a shot at a higher GPA?

Housing Questions do not move into the barracks

This is just a warning to those planning to sign a lease at The Barracks Townhomes, specifically with The Arena Group. During move-in, I completed their inventory condition form, which was simply a sticky note. I noted that that the carpet was somewhat sticky but otherwise the apartment was in good condition. I also documented my own images and videos of the apartment.

During move-out, I complied with all of their cleaning protocols and requests and completed their lengthy condition documentation of the unit. After several months, I received less than $400 back frmo my $1,000 security deposit. Looking at their invoice, they had charged me $400 to replace the carpet in my room, and another $200 for paint-touch up and cleaning charges. Their condition form, however, did not note any issues with the carpet, and in fact marked the carpet as being in "good" condition. Their images also did not reveal any issues with the carpet or paint. In fact, before move-out, we went to the leasing office to confirm the exact paint color we should use to cover up any minor nail holes from paintings, etc. The condition form also did not specify why additional cleaning charges were required, as we had already deep-cleaned the unit ourselves and hired a professional cleaner too.

They released an option to file a dispute if you had any issues with these charges, which of course I did. I referenced various legal codes, including the fact that landlords cannot charge for minor/normal wear-and-tear, and also attached move-in photos, move-out photos, and referenced their own move-out report, explicitly stating that they had never even made the claim that the carpet was in need of being replaced.

They finally replied to the dispute multiple weeks after they claimed they would reply by, noting that the cleaning charges would be refunded (which amounted to less than $50), but that the rest of the charges would be upheld, with no additional reasoning other than several unrelated photos attached to the reply, some of which showed the carpet in good condition as usual.

Several weeks later, I have still not received any refund of the cleaning charge.

If I DID damage the carpet, or anything else, I would be happy to pay for it. But no, I made sure to keep the house in good condition and cleaned on a regular basis.

On another note, they also charge you $30 per month for a "resident benefits" package each month which in reality just gives you access to a pool that is only open a few months each year. They also threatened to evict me for not paying a duplicate water bill on time which I had already paid.

I would love to pursue legal action at this point, but I am a broke college student and I hardly have the time or money for that right now.

Hopefully this helps someone; I am sure others have had a positive experience at the barracks, but it seems like the consensus is more negative than positive at this point.

B/CS Life Does B/CS have a significant opiate problem?

I’ve lived in quite a few places, even some urban areas such as Houston, San Diego and most recently, Austin. I’ve noticed the amount of MAT clinics here and it’s surprisingly high compared to the other places I listed. My partner js a recovering addict & I’m just curious is this is something I need to be aware of.

Ask the Aggies Any Engineering Lawyers/Patent lawyers?

Howdy, I’m currently a junior EE and I’ve honestly lost most of my passion and joy for engineering and don’t know if I wanna continue it in the future. Ik industry is completely different than school but it just doesn’t intrigue me anymore. After some research I decided to look at engineering more broadly and discovered patent law and it seems really interesting to me. I’m trying to get some perspective and honestly advice on if the career is worth it or not? Is it worth jumping straight into it from undergrad? I feel like waiting after a few years will just keep me from ever getting into it.

Academics Need recommendations and advice for my spring 2027 semester as a freshman

Im a freshman engineering student. I currently am taking 13 credit hours (lowk need to lock in to graduate on time). Im planning my next semester and I am gonna visit an advisor this week. So Im gonna take 15 cred hours probably next semester.

First for physics, from what Ive understood, I think dont panic physics is better for my gpa, so I need a good prof rec for dont panic physics please (not an honors student btw)

Second, for my UCC courses, one of them is pols 206, need a good prof rec for that

Third, for my second UCC course, I need a rec for an easy gpa booster course. Ive considered FILM 299, but its eating my Wednesday evenings so Im looking for alternatives

Additionally, I have already completed/am currently completing my requirements for language, philosophy and culture via ANTH 210

Chance Me Engineering academy stats and chances

So I was wondering what my chances are for getting into any A&M engineering academy (mainly the HCC one but I’m fine with any) and the stats such as Gpa SAT and rank for anyone who got in.

Gpa: my school has a weird scale but I’m pretty sure mine is like a 3.38/4 UW and like a 3.75 W I’m not 100% sure tho.

Rank: 281/619 2nd quartile

And my rank and gpa would be much better but I had a very bad freshman year. But I had way better grades sophomore and especially junior year. And go to a competitive school. I’m also hoping to state the circumstances my freshman year in an additional info section if available. idk if they recalculate gpa so it’s a 4.2/5 W in my transcript ( we don’t have UW)

Courses: AP calc AB, AP bio, AP Precalc, APES, AP human geo, AP gov, AP macro, physics regular (school doesn’t offer honors and I didn’t wanna take AP), and then pretty much the majority of the rest of my classes where honors.

Sat: 1270 with a 690 math

I don’t wanna go in depth but I have many good STEM and engineering EC and good non STEM ones too.

But if you got in please drop your stats (rank, gpa, sat)

Venting need some advice

Hey y'all. I'm a freshman currently in my first semester at Texas A&M and I am struggling really badly with homesickness. My hometown is about 2 hours away, and up until now, I've been going home almost every single weekend because being here has been so overwhelming.
I'm staying on campus this weekend because I have to, and I feel incredibly isolated.

To make matters worse, I'm dealing with a bad bug problem in my dorm which is making me feel totally unsafe and anxious in my own room. (Yes I keep my dorm as clean as possible and bugs come from places you wouldn’t even expect, and i’ve submitted work orders) I also am not a fan of the dining hall food and miss having my own place to cook (dorm kitchen is gross), so my eating habits have been terrible, which is tanking my energy and mood. I know all this might just make me sound like a complainer, but i’m someone who tends to get super worried and I have bad anxiety, so everything tends to seem a lot worse than it is to me.

I've been seriously considering transferring to UH for the spring or next fall just to commute from home and be back with my family. I would also be avoiding all the ET@M stress that is eating me away (even though engineering will be difficult no matter where I go). But the thing is, I don't necessarily hate A&M. I actually like my professors, and I've already made a few acquaintances and friends here. I’m also a part of some orgs as well.

Another huge thing holding me back is that I'm terrified of the ridicule or judgment I might face if I leave TAMU. Everyone talks about how amazing it is here and how hard it is to get in, and I'm really scared of people back home or here looking down on me or thinking I couldn't handle it if I choose to transfer to UH.

I feel stuck. I don't know if I should push through, try to fix my dorm/food situation, and give A&M a real chance, or if needing to go home this much is a sign that I should just transfer closer to home.

Has anyone else dealt with severe homesickness or dorm issues freshman year? How did you handle the food and learning to live on your own? Is the Aggie network worth staying for, or did anyone transfer out and find that it was the best decision for their mental health?

Any advice or encouragement would mean a lot right now. Thanks.
