[Question] People who transitioned from FL Studio to Ableton, do you miss FL Studio’s plugins?

Hello all, I’ve been making music for about two years now, but lately I’ve been getting quite frustrated with FL Studio’s workflow organisation especially once my project gets quite big and also with FL’s audio recording capabilities compared to Ableton’s.

Anyways, lately I’ve been playing around with Live Lite, because I have it from a product I bought. I notice that I miss FL’s stock generator plugins like Kepler, GMS, Toxic Biohazard and others. I use them quite a lot in my music and they are in my opinion useful and powerful plugins. Did you miss them when you moved to Ableton? Or are Ableton’s stock generators just as good? Or did you get third-party VSTs to fill the missing holes in Ableton’s line-up?

I don’t care about the effects plugins that much because I find Ableton ones to be just as good, so no issues there, mostly the generator ones.

[Tech Help Windows] Ableton 12 suite stopped recognizing midi input

• Upvotes

About a week or 2 ago I had my roland FP10 piano connected with midi in an ableton project, but then it just stopped working.

The drivers of the piano are up to date, windows recognizes "Roland digital piano" as "Sound, video and game controllers" in device manger, I've tried restarting PC, starting ableton with the piano turned on, vice versa. The device does not appear in ableton midi settings, and I also tried installing Reaper, where the device was also not found.

[Question] Using Ableton to Cover Songs With Inconsistent Tempo?

I have been using ableton to cover rock/metal songs for guitar and bass, and if you know anything about old metal bands, they HATE metronomes so the songs tempo is all over the place. This becomes a huge problem when I want to go back and do another take on a certain part. is there any way to combat this? maybe i'm using the wrong DAW for this?

[Performance] "Meditation I" Long-Form Generative Ambient Made Completely in Stock Ableton

"Meditation I" is a stand-alone, long-form generative piece exploring textures, slow volume drifts and sustained atmospheric stillness. This was built entirely with stock Ableton synths and effects from Live 12 Suite, and relied specifically on the "Inspired By Nature" pack.

Recorded in F Major, it uses "Tree Tones" and "Bouncy Notes" along with pads from Drift and the Upright Piano pack from Spitfire Audio routed through a single effects send set with the Hybrid Reverb on "Bigger Spaces."

The entire session was mapped across a 3-controller Novation hardware setup of 2 Launchpad Pro mk3's and a Novation Launch Control XL3 which allows for distribution of duties, minimizing looking at the laptop screen, and fader control over volume fades which I much prefer over using encoder knobs.

As always, no AI was used in the creation of the music or in the video. Heavens Spin Gray keeps music human.

The full 1-hour session and video are now live on YouTube - link available on the HSG profile. Happy to answer any questions about any of the above or anything else. Thanks for listening.

Peace, HSG"Meditation I" Excerpt

[Question] Streaming Ableton Live 12 Lite with audio over Discord (PC)

When I start my Discord stream in a call with my friend, he cannot hear any of the audio from my Ableton Live 12 Lite. On the audio settings page my driver type is ASIO, and my audio device is Focusrite USB ASIO. I use a Scarlett Solo 4th Gen, which apparently has loopback, though I have no clue how to use it, or if it would help in any way.

I have installed ASIO4ALL but it only shows up in audio device, not driver type. VB Audio Cable doesn't show up in the audio settings on my Ableton at all. I'm on Windows 10 if that's important.

Any help would be appreciated, thanks in advance

[Max for Live] VZL Scope: A Visualizer within Ableton Live (as M4L)

VZL Scope is a free Max for Live visualizer for Ableton Live 12. It produces a very reduced black and white scope-like visualization, based on the Midi signals of all the tracks in your project. It lives on the master channel and receives it signals from small sender devices on each midi track, so the signal is in sync and reacts to your track and its energy. All parameters can be tweak live or automated, it also works well with Push 3 (not in standalone mode).

More details here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4MXugYefjX4

Hit Rec and it writes a 16:9 or 9:16 video with your master audio to your Desktop, starting on the next bar. In case you need some social posts to go with your track.

I needed something like this, so maybe it helps you as well.
It is a free download on thoow.com

[Question] Any melodic house / progressive house producers in the UK? Making music alone gets a bit lonely!

Hey everyone!

I’m a UK-based producer (Essex, just outside London) making melodic house / progressive house, heavily inspired by artists like Ben Böhmer, Lane 8, Sultan + Shepard, Le Youth, Yotto and the whole This Never Happened / Anjunadeep sound.

I’ve been producing on my own for a while now, and I don’t know any other producers. Things get lonely in this little bubble.

I absolutely love the creative process, but I don’t have any producer friends to bounce ideas off, share unfinished tracks with, get honest feedback from, or just geek out over a beautiful chord progression, sound design or a new plugin.

I’d really love to connect with some like-minded producers, ideally around London, Essex or elsewhere in the UK. Not necessarily looking for anything formal, just people who share the same passion and fancy chatting about music, swapping ideas, helping each other improve and maybe collaborating on some tracks.

Doesn’t matter if you’re experienced or relatively new. I’m more interested in finding people who genuinely love this style of music and enjoy the creative side of producing.
If this sounds like you, drop a comment or send me a message.

Would be great to find a few producer mates!
Anyone else making emotional house music alone?

[Question] Five speakers panning

Hello!

I’m creating sound design for an animation that will be displayed on 5 screens with 5 speakers. The animation is a train ride experience, and a lot of panning and smooth transitions between speakers will be needed. The speakers and screens are placed in one row.

How would you approach 5-speaker panning? The first thing that comes to mind is 5 aux sends.

In the end, I need 5 separate mono files, one for each speaker.

All ideas appreciated!

[Question] Suggestion for a midi controller for ableton live (specific requirements in post)

I would like to buy a controller for Ableton live.

I would like something that looks like a mixing console with minimum 8 preferably motorized faders, and like enough rotary encoder to be able to have two sends per track, three for eq and like two more for anything I would like to be able to access easily.

I would also like to have transport buttons and be able to launch recording, overdub,..

I do not work in the session view, only in the arrangement view so I do not need any clip launch option.

The goal is being able to compose a track in the arrangement view (recording vst, audio from synths and vocals) without looking too much at the screen.

Wich controller would you recommend ?

[Max for Live] Trismegistus Sequencer is a 16-step Max for Live MIDI sequencer

Getting started

  1. Keep the .amxd and its three .js files in the same folder, then drag the .amxd onto a MIDI track, before an instrument.

  2. Press Play in Live: the runes light up and the wizard starts stirring.

  3. Choose Key and Scale, then write your notes (see below).

  4. Press To Clip to save the result as a MIDI clip.

Writing notes

• Draw: in the Note lane, click or drag across the columns.

• Keyboard: click a key on the left. The note goes into the white cursor step, then the cursor moves on.

• Record: turn on Rec and play your MIDI keyboard.

• Random: press Rnd for new notes from the scale.

The arrows above and below the keyboard change octave. Notes recorded off screen are shown automatically.

Controls

• Ring / step switches: click a rune or a switch to turn a step on or off (off = rest).

• Lane tabs: edit Note, Velocity, Ratchet (1–4 repeats) or Chance (0–100 %) for each step.

• Rate, Feel: step length (1/1–1/64), straight, triplet or dotted.

• Swing, Gate: shuffle on every second step; note length (over 100 % = legato).

• Key, Scale, Octave: 13 scales, or Chromatic for free notes. Going back to Chromatic restores your original notes.

• Steps: sequence length, 1–16. Odd numbers make polyrhythms.

• Play: Forward, Backward, Pendulum, Zigzag, Converge, Diverge, Random, Drunk.

• Euclid + Hits: spreads Hits evenly over the steps. Hits never exceeds Steps.

• Shift < >: moves the whole pattern one step.

• To Clip: writes the sequence, as it sounds, into the first empty clip slot.

Every control can be automated and MIDI-mapped, and hovering over it shows a description in Live's Info View.

[Question] Crossfading chains

I'm trying to create a macro knob which will turn up one chain and turn down another. The problem is, there is a dead zone in the middle of the fade where it gets noticeably quieter, even if both chains are the same volume. Is there a way to create a more consistent output volume of the two chains as I crossfade between them?

[Question] Ableton Midi

I don't know if anybody knows how I could easily take bass notes out of samples. I'm not really tone-deaf, but I just can't hear the bass notes well, and my brain just doesn't register them. I'm coming from FL Studio, which I've used for maybe four years because I've started making beats.

I was wondering how well the Ableton feature where you drop an audio into a MIDI track and then it turns into MIDI notes works, because I really need to figure out the bass notes, and it's quite hard to hear them out with my ears. Maybe somebody knows if it's really reliable by Ableton, or maybe if somebody knows a tool that could help, maybe a third-party plugin or something like that, or a website maybe.

It's really a big issue for me. I make a lot of great songs, and if I build the sample by myself, it sounds great. I have the bass notes and everything. However, if I want to use a third-party sample that I found on Splice or Tracklib or a friend sent me, then I would really appreciate knowing the bass notes so I can match them and make the track sound better. Please, if anybody can help me out, I would really appreciate it.

[Question] How to compose tracks?

Can you recommend me some approach of "creating" a track?
I have tons of sounds, loops, instruments combined by genres, styles etc. But I wonder how can I create a track? Currently I have many different "demos" but no real final tracks. Can you recommend some approach that works for you?

[Tutorial] Looking for high-quality Ableton tutorials that teach you how to produce a complete track from start to finish

Hey everyone!

I'm relatively new to music production and currently learning Ableton Live 12.

I'm looking for some genuinely good, high-quality tutorials (YouTube or paid courses) that walk you through the entire process of producing a track from scratch to a finished song.

I'm mainly interested in melodic techno, melodic house, progressive trance, ambient electronic music, or similar genres. Nothing too hard, aggressive, or overly commercial. I prefer melodic, atmospheric, and emotional electronic music.

I've already come across quite a few tutorials on YouTube, but honestly, a lot of them seem pretty low quality. Many just show someone clicking around, throwing samples together, or making a quick loop without really explaining the creative process or why they're making certain decisions.

What I'm looking for:

  • A complete track produced from start to finish, not just an 8-bar loop.
  • Clear explanations of sound selection, arrangement, melodies, harmonies, transitions, mixing, etc.
  • Someone who actually teaches music production rather than just showing off what they can do.
  • Ideally something beginner-friendly, but with enough depth to develop proper production skills.
  • Free or paid tutorials are both fine, as long as the quality is worth it.

I don't mind spending several hours following a tutorial. In fact, I'd prefer something detailed where I can follow along and actually understand the process.

My goal isn't just to copy someone else's track, but to understand how electronic music is built so I can eventually produce my own music.

Any recommendations for YouTube channels, specific tutorials, or structured courses would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks!

[Push] Push 3 - hard buttons

The (non-pad) buttons on the Push 3 are very hard to press.

I know this has been brought up before, but wanted to ask if anyone has found any kind of way to resolve this? Do they get better over time?

I sold a Push 3 because of this and only this, but as time goes on I keep thinking that it's exactly the device I need. I'd love to buy another, but only if I can somehow work around that ultra-hard button pressing.

Any insights appreciated

[Max for Live] Sampler instrument with MIDI mappable loop start and end times

Just the title. I’m trying to play back a sample, then speed it up the loop so fast that it makes a new pitch. Ableton’s native sampler does everything I want it to, but I have to either draw in the automation or use a mouse and keyboard. I’m trying to map to a knob so I can demonstrate to a live audience.

Feels like I’m staring right at the obvious answer, but I can’t see it. Maybe a M4L device? Thanks for the help my friends.

[Question] How do I get more control over input processing in ableton to create this setup?

I want to create the following setup for a live performance:

a continuous midi pedal and a midi button that can be controlled with the feet.

when the pedal is pressed: the output volume of a reverb effect is increased or decreased from 0 to -inf db

- when the button is pressed: the input channel for the reverb is armed so it can allow a sound signal to be processed and outputted by the reverb, whose volume is then controlled with the pedal. when the button is pressed again, the channel is unarmed. when the button is pressed TWICE (so, the channel has been armed and unarmed, and then is armed again) I want to kill the reverb signal so that a new signal can be processed by it.

I haven't found a way to implement this in ableton. does anyone have any suggestions? it's ok if I need to use a 3rd party plugin.
