[Push] Push 3 - hard buttons

The (non-pad) buttons on the Push 3 are very hard to press.

I know this has been brought up before, but wanted to ask if anyone has found any kind of way to resolve this? Do they get better over time?

I sold a Push 3 because of this and only this, but as time goes on I keep thinking that it's exactly the device I need. I'd love to buy another, but only if I can somehow work around that ultra-hard button pressing.

Any insights appreciated

Yeah the buttons are my least favourite thing on the push 3. They’re much better (and clickier) on the Maschine.

They're much better on literally anything it seems :-/

Yeah, weird choice of buttons. I wish they were more like the clicky ones on elektron stuff.

It doesn’t really affect my personal workflow because I’m only using it in my studio but if I was playing live it would definitely be a detriment.

I wrote to Ableton to ask if there was some way of swapping them out or something...

Even playing at home I find found they were a hinderance. These little micro-moments where I have to stop thinking about music and think about how hard I press a button so my desk doesn't wobble or it doesn't fall off my lap. Things like quick stopping/recording became way slower.

No solution to propose, but muscle memory does help, after a while you don’t think as much about it.

No more skipping finger/thumb day at the gym

Can't imagine between less than able bodied/handed trying to use one.

I don't have a push and dont use drum machines very often but when i see people playing live on a drum machine they are mashing those buttons to death. Could it be they designed it with such a use in mind?

The MPE pads on the Push 3 are a dream to play. That's the grid of white pads in the centre.

I'm talking about the function buttons around the edges. Those things are hard and require considerable force to press.

Not to derail the main conversation, but do others find the grid pads to also be immovable and rock-like? I never knew if that was just my unit or if they were designed that way.

You mean the MPE pads? Immovable as in hard to press? No, the one I had was great, for me they were best pads I've ever used (having used akai, m-audio, novation, esi, elektron, and probably a few others).

Best pads surrounded by the worst buttons

One of the weirdest failures in a hardware product I’ve experienced. But no solution that I’m aware of.

Incredible amount of cognitive dissonance I have in trying to tell my brain not to buy another one because an excellent device is not excellent only because the buttons are too hard to press!

It’s just wild to me. And people are weird with the downvotes. It’s a great product with an obvious flaw that shouldn’t have made it into the product. You have to push the buttons with such force that it unduly limits what kind of stand it can sit on without it moving when you push buttons.

Did you buy it new? I wonder if they become easier to press over time

Bought new. I was wondering that too, but judging by the responses here, it seems not really.

Idk I like it. I use a mechanical keyboard though. I prefer not to accidentally hit a button softly and then have the repeat or tempo or the entire instrument change.
