I loved the entirety of young Sheldon so so much, still rewatching occasionally. Big bang theory is decent, but it’s a product of its time in my opinion, so it’s hard to stomach sometimes, and Sheldon feels almost sociopathic lol. The main thing was the laugh track. Maybe it’s because I’m 24, but it’s always so jarring and odd.
What are everyone’s thoughts on the usage of it for George and Mandy? I saw a really comprehensive post further down that detailed how they have “an uphill battle” and I totally agree— I think the laugh track only added to that struggle though.
I cannot, for the life of me, understand why on earth they decided to include one. The actors are all talented, but the chemistry and dialogue is so off and strange, it strips the charm of everyone’s personalities. Mandy specifically has a lovely onscreen presence that I feel was totally desaturated by the stylistic choice to film in front of an audience and on strange cheap sets.
It sucks because I do like the characters so much and want to follow their lives, but it truly makes me feel like I’m going crazy when I suddenly hear an entire crowd erupt from nowhere.
Also, I want to know what yall think about the performances. To me there’s this weird uncanny effect since I hopped over from a more immersive experience (young Sheldon.) while I think once again they’re talented enough, this switch seems to be sort of a burden on their abilities. Idk.
Does it get better in later seasons? Is there somewhere I can stream it with the laugh track edited out?
Edit: I didn’t realize how many meemaws are here. No but you guys do have a point, there’s no new “complaint” under the sun, and I didn’t mean this to come off so negatively. A laugh track in and of itself doesn’t make something bad— like I said here, because of how young I am, I’m just not used to it. I still praised the show, and acknowledged that coming from young Sheldon and expecting the same deal isn’t realistic. Still, as a viewer, I’m allowed to post opinions on things because the world does not revolve around your singular experience. To clarify in short; the laugh track doesn’t make it bad. It’s part of a sitcom style I’ve never interacted with in my adulthood, so it’s naturally gonna be a little weird.
Regardless, I can’t argue with the tried and true “don’t like it don’t watch it,” and it’s the approach I’ve taken.
Thank u to the one person mentioning it’s a genuine live audience, that’s actually pretty interesting.
:p
