Article Dev Workshop: Ammo Efficiency Changes & Riven Disposition Retirement

1.4k Upvotes

Greetings Tenno!

Our recent introduction of Ammo Efficiency traits to Riven mods via Riven Splicers has made this stat more accessible to players, and led to much discussion internally on how the availability of infinite ammo builds affects Warframe’s game balance. We mentioned briefly in Devshort #119 that we were looking at Ammo Efficiency specifically, and we’re here to cash the checks we wrote.

The conversation has led us with two key decisions, which you will see reflected in a hotfix later this week:

  • Capping Ammo Efficiency
  • Retiring the Riven Disposition System

There’s a lot to go over on both of these topics, so we’ll dive right in!

Arsenal Retuning Inbox
With the coming changes to Ammo Efficiency and Riven Dispositions, all players who log in after Thursday’s hotfix will receive the following (until December 31st 2026 at 11:59pm ET):

  • 1 Built Forma + 100,000 Kuva

Players who have installed a Riven Splicer in a Riven Mod prior to Thursday’s hotfix will also receive the following in a separate inbox as a thank you for being an early adopter:

  • 1 Riven Splicer + 100,000 Kuva

Ammo Efficiency Changes

Warframe is about the power fantasy, and infinite ammo is the epitome of that. Shooting endlessly into hordes of enemies can feel incredible, and we want players to be able to experience that — sometimes. The recent introduction of Riven Splicers has changed that “sometimes” for infinite ammo into a much more guaranteed thing, which has brought around this entire conversation.

Our main concern with 100% Ammo Efficiency (a.k.a. infinite ammo) builds is the possibility for automated gameplay. We want infinite ammo to be a limited buff you experience occasionally in-mission, not a guaranteed part of your build.

With that in mind, a hotfix is shipping later this week with the following changes:

  • Ammo Efficiency is capped at 75%.
    • For those unfamiliar with the Ammo Efficiency mechanic, this means only 1 in 4 shots will consume ammo.
    • This applies to Ammo Efficiency increases from multiple sources — they will only increase the stat up to this cap.
  • Sources that intentionally gave 100% Ammo Efficiency (ex: Void Relic cracking buffs) have now been rephrased to indicate they give Infinite Ammo.
  • There are other Mods, Arcanes, and Incarnon Evolutions that come with their own edge-cases, which we’ll explain in detail below.

Retiring the Riven Disposition System

Iceblade of Narin has brought with it a number of shake-ups to the Riven ecosystem - and we’re not done yet! Join us as we explain why and how we are retiring the Riven Disposition system.

Before going into details, a brief history on key points to help illuminate how we got here!

Both Riven Dispositions numbers, and the system itself, have evolved to match the changing needs of our playerbase and game. However, these changes have always been at odds with a fundamental fact: Warframe players like big numbers.

Reducing values and taking away power was never popular, and starting new weapons low made the system less exciting to engage with. Offering higher Dispositions on unpopular weapons was not enough to level the playing field, and instead of encouraging engagement in lesser weapons, we saw that investment was still focused on making powerful weapons more powerful. Incarnons were a more successful attempt at breathing life into older outdated weapons, and the overlapping of these systems only multiplied their power further.

Therefore, we believe (like many of you, based on feedback) that the system has run its course, and simplification would help reduce complexity. Therefore!

The Plan Going Forward:
Rivens no longer have varying Dispositions, meaning all Rivens share the same range for stat values (the equivalent to a Disposition of 1.2).

Rivens have pre-set ranges for each stat roll generated, and Disposition is applied as a multiplier to each stat. In practical terms, this means ALL Rivens will be slightly above the current average in terms of power.

Since this has a significant impact on Rivens**, we are disabling the ability to trade Rivens until this change goes out in a hotfix on Thursday.** We want players to be able to make informed trading decisions, and there is no way to guarantee all players will know about the coming changes to their Riven within this ~48 hour window. Attempting to trade Rivens during this window will result in a "Failed to make offer" message until we are able to re-establish trading.

This will shake things up in a few ways!

  • Some Rivens for popular weapons will be increased significantly.
    • Examples:
      • Nataruk: 0.65->1.2
      • Grimoire: 0.6->1.2
  • Some Rivens for “average” weapons will be increased slightly.
    • Examples:
      • Gotva Prime: 0.85->1.2
      • Staticor: 0.9->1.2
  • Some Rivens for popular weapons will be reduced slightly.
    • This only really applies to certain standout Incarnons.
    • Examples:
      • Burston Prime: 1.35->1.2
      • Dual Ichor: 1.25->1.2
  • Some Rivens for unpopular weapons will be reduced slightly.
    • This is not ideal, but accessible low-powered weapons usually exist as a stepping stone for new players on their journey through the Mastery system. And as discussed above, there is no telling when a low MR weapon will get the glow-up of a lifetime through new upgrades and variants!
    • Examples:
      • Harpak: 1.55->1.2
      • Heat Sword: 1.45->1.2

What is the desired outcome of this change?

  • Brand new weapons will have powerful Rivens available on day one
  • All Rivens are guaranteed to offer a noticeable boost, including those for your favorite powerful weapons
  • No more constant adjustments — your Rivens will not change unless you change them through rerolling
  • All weapons get equal treatment, giving us more control when balancing old and new weapons
  • Simplified system by removing Disposition as a factor when comparing and evaluating Rivens

Why now?

  • With the addition of various Riven rerolling quality improvements, the price of many Rivens has been “reset” somewhat recently. The sooner we make this change, the less of an impact it will hopefully have on the Riven ecosystem.

Discussion Devshorts #121 - Stream Summary

440 Upvotes

Another week, another Devshorts! Hopefully everyone has been having a good week so far, if not, I hope it gets better for you.

Here is a wiki page going over the previous Devshort, and here is link to the youtube VOD of todays.

As usual, adding in stuff as I listen along. If it hasn't been added in yet, I probably haven't gotten to that part of the stream as I navigate eating my lunch at the same time.

  • Rebb and Pablo today.
  • Rebb is continuing to be the fashion icon that she is, and is rocking a hands-free phone holder.
  • "If we were streaming from here, I could like rock you guys" ~Rebb. "Moms carrying you around" ~Pablo. *"lets not make it weird. Or should we?" ~Rebb in response.
  • Someone in chat again asks for warframe idles for drifters. Apparently, they actually tried testing that internally, but it did not work due to skeleton issues. Rebb says they will try again.
  • Timer is started about 2 minutes into the stream
  • Final week for Nights of Naberus.
  • Fundraising for the PMCFQ is still ongoing
  • They will be doing a special finale stream on Saturday.
  • Operation Taubound is still ongoing. Currently at about 50%
  • Someone asks for Gyres to be able to keep their skirt down
  • Devstream this friday
  • Pablos first in person devstream since tennocon.
  • They are aiming to get the Voruna hip accessory changes in with the Tau update.
  • Someone asks what the difference is between a chimera frame and caliban. The devstream will talk about this.
  • Someone asks pablo to tease them if they will be adding more Adversary weapons. Pablo responds with a sneaky maybe, but it sounds like no plans currently for more in the near future.
  • Someone says "Don't touch chromas three please." Pablo responds with "Chroma is a special case."
  • Rebb then brings up that the "Big three" frames people ask about the most are Limbo, Chroma, and Loki.
  • Pablo then brings up how those three in particular are tricky to change, and each of them have their own reasons why they are hard to touch.
  • Someone asks for Yareli Heirloom.
  • Nezha Heirloom concept art on the devstream
  • Koumei skin also on the devstream
  • "There will be some stuff that you expect, but there will be some stuff that you don't" ~Pablo on the devstream
  • With Tau apparently, they are doing something they haven't done in "twelve years", but they wont be talking about that at the devstream
  • Someone asks "HUD rework?" Rebb says no. But there will be new UI stuff with the update.
  • Next prime will not be shown off this Friday (RIP to the kullervo guy) but it will be shown off with a prime trailer in november.
  • Someone asks when Tigris incarnon is coming. Pablo is unsure.
  • On the topic of Incarnons: "We just gotta change it to a token system, man. Done. We cant just keep moving the Schedule for it. If we ever add more incarnons, its turning into a vendor. You heard it here first." ~Rebb
  • "The only problem is that kinda encourages us to not change it because that's a fucking ton of work. Can I curse here? Because I just did." Pablo in response.
  • Someone asks for Excal buffs
  • Someone says "Please help ember." Pablo responds "Ah the classic. Next you are gonna want me to change heat inheritance too."
  • Rebb then asks chat to explain heat inheritance and reads off a host of responses. a lot of things along the likes of "God only knows."
  • Pablo then says they do have plans to look into it next year.
  • "Heat inheritance is when you parent heat dies you get their money" ~Some jokester in chat.
  • Someone asks if Narin will get more buffs. Pablo says not right now.
  • Someone asks "Bring back undertow"
  • Someone asks for a Oraxia skin
  • Someone asks for more protoframes.
  • Additional content for Vena and Ryoku coming next year.
  • They will not be releasing more protoframes until they do a better job for the above two in terms of giving them lore and etc.
  • It sounds like that DE realises they need to release less protoframes that are more fleshed out over releasing them with lighter lore like the above two released with.
  • Someone asks for a Qorvex buff, Pablo says thats not unreasonable before the stream is ended.

Suggestion Extra resources mod for Sentinels when?

Post image
117 Upvotes

Honestly sentinels bring so much utility when it comes to priming and yet I am never using them as you cannot equip a mod like this one. I am sorry, but picking up 8 steel essences at the time is so satisfying and time saving. Of course it doesn't always proc but when it does, damn.

What do we think? Will DE ever review this?

Suggestion Radiation needs a buff

656 Upvotes

At this point most status types have found a niche, magnetic is underwhelming but useful in every mission because of Eximus, puncture/cold provide crit chance/damage, heck they even buffed corrosive back to being useful.

Radiation as it stands is fairly underwhelming. It's useful against certain factions but all it does is provide a less useful cc than heat when it's not the "correct" damage type for a faction.

I think Radiation should provide a boost to status damage up to x% at 10 stacks (I would give a number but everyone would say it's too much or too little) alongside its current underwhelming cc. This would give it a unique advantage that makes it more useful on status weapons.

It would also mean it pairs perfectly with Tau status that instead status chance vulnerability. And I imagine we're going to get many more Tau weapons with this update.

Suggestion In today's Riven Rolling 550-700 Kuva, or Flood 1,100-1,400 Kuva is simply not worth the lengthy Syphon Missions. How about we just buff by x10. Like that we instead get 5500-7000 Kuva, or Flood: 11,000-14,000. I mean thats basically 1 mission and you get at least 1-2 (Locked) Riven Rolls out of it.

Thumbnail
gallery
116 Upvotes

I'm sure you encountered the same problem that rolling has become pretty costly. Very better Riven Stat outcomes BUT quite expensive to keep rolling. I'm a bit tired of waiting a whole week until I can get 500k Kuva from the vendors; I would rather farm a meaningful amount of Kuva in the meantime.

I thought it might be a good idea to Update the Outdated Kuva Syphon missions. Because let's be honest Buffing the Syphons by a factor of x10 isn't too crazy if you consider a single roll is costing us now 7000 Kuva (which most likely will result in a fail). AND it would revitalize this mission type again. For my sake the resource booster can be deactivated for those objectives if the mission schedule stays the same.

So... why not farm the Kuva where it originated from and drop actual meaningful amounts? Like the Kuva Syphons, or hey, why not even farm it in a Kuva Defence?
Or what I would absolutely LOVE would be an Index-Kuva version, maybe even Fighting Liches there as enemies. Idk what it is but I just enjoy those Arenas.
