BIO 163! Avoid Prof *oles at all cost!

I don’t want to put the professors full name so please private message me and I’ll tell you the professor. But please avoid this woman’s class at all cost! I tried doing a review on rate my professor but there weren’t enough characters to describe the set up of this class in just a few words.

I’m a straight A student and this will be my first class that I barely have the ability to pass. Don’t get me wrong, yes it’s alot of work but it’s manageable if you have the time. My only gripe with this class is not the workload but the teaching style and exam style questions that are given to students by this professor. No matter how much time you spend studying the grade for lecture exams will not reflect that time due to how she words her exam questions.

The first 4 weeks of class she had cancelled due to “work meetings”. Then class was out for holidays which left most of class time being taken away and forcing students to learn at home. Okay no biggie. But I quickly learned that this was just a set up for how the rest of the semester would go. For starters, she may only cover 2 or 3 out the 4 chapters you have to learn for the exam. Which leaves students responsible for teaching themselves the remainder of the material. She doesn’t teach either, but mainly just reads the PowerPoints in a haze to get to the next chapter in time. No outside lectures to help students and if you go to her about going over your grade or exam, she will either tell you she’s swamped with other students who are “in line” to have theirs reviewed it just won’t respond at all to your emails.

Lab exam points are taken off for spelling and she may or may not grade you on every misspelled word depending on which student you are. Extra credit in her class means jack shit as it won’t reflect on your final grade. Assignments don’t weigh much so don’t expect those to bring your grade up but of course if you don’t do them they will drop your grade tremendously.

And lastly the lecture exams. I guess those exams are going to be worded based on how she feels. Sometimes the exams reflect the study material she calls “hit list” and sometimes they don’t. The questions are vague and don’t give much to the imagination to understand what she’s asking or looking for and then sometimes you will be tested on very minute details that weren’t apart of the main concepts. If she says focus on something and learn a specific concept. Forget about it and just try your best to learn every damn thing because typically the main concept she harped on won’t even be tested.

Finally, please understand that most students who are in her class and are passing with an A have either taken the class before, have a background in science or have taken other science courses that helps them. If this is your first exposure please find a top rated professor to take. Don’t waste your time or money if you pay out of pocket on this professor.

Any suggestions on quiet places to study on the weekend?

I’m in the beltway of Raleigh, and I’ve found there’s not really a ton of places to get work done and I’m pretty sure the library is closed on the weekend.

Anyone know any decent coffee shops, or libraries around that are quiet and comfy?

His 122 as a world history?

I’m looking for a world history that catches my eye. His-122 seems to fit the ticket interest wise, does anyone know if when you transfer to a 4 year school if it would count as a global history?

it seems to cover more than US history and was wondering if anyone here would know (atleast till Monday when I can ask an advisor)

Has anyone taken Calculus 1 Online?

I am thinking about doing the class fully online with Tricia Van Brunt or Dorta Ethan. I was wondering if anyone had any experience with them or any experience with taking Calculus 1 online. I am doing this because I notice that I don't really learn anything in the lectures when I'm in class. I would much rather just stay home and read the textbook.

LPN Orientation

Can anybody tell me how the health science orientations usually go?! Doesn’t have to be for just LPN, but I’m just not sure what to expect going in! Also would love to hear about any experiences with the LPN program itself. I’m a little nervous about whether the schedule is too much to handle.
Thank yall!

Hello! I am Jane, and I am currently a dental hygiene student at Wake Tech! I am required to find my own patients in order to pass the course. I am able to see children age: 4-11, adolescents age: 12-17, and adults!

This would be a good opportunity for you to receive a dental cleaning at a great affordable price!! The max you will pay is $45; x-rays included! $2 for sealants! As well as an exam with the dentist.

I am a student learning, so please keep in mind that appointments will be longer than a typical cleaning at a dental office.

Appointments will be 4 hours long for all patients and it will take 3-5 visits/appointments for adults, 1-3 for adolescents and 1-2 for children.

If you are interested and willing to be a patient please comment or send me a message and I will reach out to you!!
Feel free to share this post with your friends and family as well!! :)

I also have an opening tomorrow at 8-11:30 am for screening.. pls lmk! First come first serve :>>

ADN PROGRAM STUDENTS: What should I buy/What do I need before I start the program?

Hi everyone! I just got accepted into Wake Tech’s ADN Nursing program for the spring semester, and I’m honestly super nervous.

I don’t really have anyone in my life who’s going into nursing (or done nursing), so I’d love some advice from people who’ve been through it.

What I’m trying to figure out:

- What should I buy beforehand? (any textbooks, supplies, scrubs, equipment, etc. that you actually use)

- What should I do before the program starts?

- What do I need before/during day one?(things people forget to prepare)

- Is there anything I should study ahead of time? like anatomy/medical terminology, dosage calculations, CPR, math, etc.

If you have any tips on what helped you most, what you wish you knew earlier, or anything you’d tell a nervous first-semester student, I’d really appreciate it. Thanks in advance!

Horrible essay grade

I just want to start off with I don’t hate my professor and I don’t want to be the student that trashes a professor because of one bad grade. If anything I just want advice on how to improve myself as a student.
Second, I acknowledge my essay was bad. I have a full time job that takes advantage of my time, so I really had to cram time to finish this essay. I have unusual circumstances had that not been an issue I believe I would’ve gotten a better grade. However, I’m aware that does not warrant special treatment.

Originally my grade would have been a 50 but he gave everyone an extra 10 points because it took him around an entire month to grade feedback and essays. While I’m thankful of that I’m still sour of the wait time. We were assigned discussion posts to submit our drafts and peer reviews. He also gave some feedback when grading the discussion posts. He only now published our grades and feedback along with our essay grades. I feel as if I had gotten that feedback sooner I could’ve edited my essay and saved more than just 10 points. Also, in one of the discussion posts we were supposed to peer review papers; I submitted my paper to be peer reviewed and no one reviewed my paper. Because I didn’t have a peer review that took off 7 points from my essay. If I had known sooner I would’ve submitted my paper to a tutor.

He also suspected I used ai because I’m repetitive and overly general. I DID NOT USE AI. I suspect his suspicions affected my grade even though blackboard literally has a built in plagiarism detector. I even ran my essay through other ai detectors and they found nothing.

Anyways sorry for my grammar I’ve been crying and my eyes sting I’ve never failed a paper and I’m trying my best to get over it.

Question for Wake Tech Nursing Students

I just got accepted into the program for spring 2027, I have orientation this October the 30th.

I want to make some time to go over some of the material in the program to get a heads up, I know a few say just to take the time to relax and mentally prepare but I just want to get a little foundation in the information before January 7th.

Is there a website that contains everything I would need to know? I've heard of Simple Nursing and Osmosis but would love to know from you all who are directly in the program that know what is actually useful and also what areas should I prioritize to try to understand a but.

Thank you all.
