General Discussion Ski Groups?

Hey all, new-ish to SLC, in my 30s, and heading into my first full winter season here. Are there any groups you all know of to help meet people to ski/ride with in the area? I love skiing solo, but sometimes its fun to share the day with others too.

Edit to add: I went overboard with passes this season - Altabird, Ikon, and Brighton off peak. I'll figure out my favorite spots this season and be more reasonable next year. Aiming for ~100 days. Skier, but happy to go with boarders as well.

What days do you think you’ll ski?

I've struggled with this a bit too. Wasatch Mountain Club sometimes posts things, but they skew towards backcountry and seems to be an older crowd. Are you looking for resort or touring? I did find this meetup group, looks like they'll be at least doing some night skiing at Brighton. It could be worth a shot? https://www.meetup.com/wasatch-20s-30s-ski-ride-adventure/?eventOrigin=home_groups_you_organize

Thanks I'll check them both out. Resort but open to learning backcountry stuff.

You should probably edit your post to tell us which pass you have or where you plan on going, if you ski or snowboard. That will help you generate better responses.

Holy passes Batman! You will have plenty of options. I’m a skier in my 30s and have a Brighton pass. Always down to take some laps and make a new friend.

Yeah... I may have panic bought a bit. Hoping to work from ski lodges and catch an hour at lunch time on a semi-frequent basis, but we'll see how it goes! Awesome - I'll send you a message on here when things start to open?

Join the Goldminers Daughter remote work + ski crew. I’ll be there when work is slow 🙃

I'm a skier who goes to alta. if you have a pass I'm down to ski whenever just bc I work from home and need reasons to get out of the house

I see the cottonwoods mostly…40yo skier but think I’m still 25. Down to rip.

Best way to make friends is on the chairlift. Wildcat at Alta is especially good since it’s just the two of you

Since you’re already dropping a lot of $$, and what’s a bit more… check out adult lesson programs at the resorts! Sign up for something that meets for a few weeks / the whole season and you’ll make good connections. I’ve been doing Alta workshops the last few years and made some great friends/ski buddies through that.

I’ve also seen an IG account for @letsgoski.slc - seems like they have a discord too? And there are a few groups for women if you happen to be one.

I don't live in SLC but spent most of last season in an Airbnb to ski. Will likely be back for a good chunk of this season too. Early 30s and mostly ski'd solo in the cottonwoods. Remote worker with flexible schedule and like to chase powder days, night skiing at Brighton, etc

I've got a pass - sounds good to me.

That’s probably going to depend on what kind of pass you have. This is my 2nd winter here.

Just sit in LCC powder panic traffic and make friends? Happens anytime it snows

Spend some time up at Alta and you’ll find a crew. A lot of chill rippers up there.

Wildcat is an excellent place to meet folks since it’s a slow two seater.

a lot easier than you may think—it will just sort of happen naturally. that said, 37m here w/ ikon + mountain collective. primarily work remotely, so i’ll be up the cottonwoods as much as possible. hit me up.
