LCC and BCC got up to 5 inches of liquid. Just imagine if it was a bit colder.

We got monster rain storms last year in October as well and I hoped it was the harbinger of a great winter. It wasn't.

Hopefully this year is different.

Don't have to imagine, the cottonwoods get that kind of of water as snow on occasion. I've seen it a few times. Thing about that is you have to be up there before they close the road.

Unfortunately snow this early isn’t a good thing unless it continues to snow. If it doesn’t, October snow becomes a PWL that can take a long time to heal and affects both resort and backcountry.

Why this is being downvoted is bewildering. Early snow is amazing if it keeps snowing but as soon as you hit a dry spell then the PWL starts forming. That shit takes more snow and time to heal.

Fingers crossed the Whale saves us 🐳

It does look like it may continue to snow though... Fingers crossed!

I think it will melt don’t you?

Some of the aspects (S/SW/W) will most likely melt, but most likely the N/NE/E will not with normal fall temps since they don’t get strong solar input this time of year. The NW and SE may or may not. It is really dependent on what type of temps we get throughout fall.

The cottonwoods should be fine for the most part since a lot of the resorts are mainly North facing

I love touring, but I love snow more

Trust me I do as well but this doesn’t just affect touring. It makes it harder to open terrain at the resorts as well because PWL layers can be very tricky to deal with since they don’t necessarily respond to explosives.

The hurricane is a direct result of El Nino.

Super Niño is upon us.
