Hello there and welcome to r/TrueCrimePodcasts!

We're thrilled you want to be a part of our community; this is a general purpose summary that contains information we think will be useful to you! We strongly encourage that you read this post in full before making any of your own if you're new here. You could also leave comments here requesting recommendations or making your own if you feel that there isn't enough information or discussion to be had on a standalone post.

Related subs:

  • If you have questions about how to start a podcast, or other doubts about the making of a podcast go to: r/podcasting, r/podcasters.
  • If you'd like to discuss a case not related to any podcast, you can do that on r/TrueCrimeDiscussion, r/TrueCrime, r/truecrime, r/RedditCrimeCommunity.
  • If you want to promote your podcast, the only place to do it is on our Monthly promotion post, pinned under this post. Other ways to promote are not allowed in this sub, but there are other places you could find helpful for that, like r/PodcastSharing, r/NewPodcasts, r/PodcastPromoting.
  • Posts asking for help remembering a case or a podcast are allowed, but you might find r/tipofmycrime more useful for that.
  • If you want to discuss a situation from your personal life or from your community that could be a crime or you think deserves to be investigated, this is not the correct community for such posts - we cannot help you here. This is exclusively a community for discussing True Crime Podcasts and the cases they cover: there are many other subs where you could get advice depending on your topic of discussion; do a general search on Reddit to find which could be the best sub to post your concern.

Here are some other helpful and free online resources to find more podcasts:

  • The Google Docs Spreadsheet, a community-maintained document with most true crime podcasts in existence, don't forget to go to the bottom of the doc to find other tabs for Episodic Podcasts and Docuseries. You can also score the podcasts you've listened by following the big arrow on top.
  • Listen Notes, search any topic, case, name, etc., and find which podcasts have covered it.
  • Rephonic Graph, enter the name of the podcast of your liking and the site will create a constellation of similar podcasts.

None of these replace word-of-mouth or personal recommendations, but they are fun tools to use when looking for new things to listen to.

Here are some FAQ for popular podcasts. Usually people like one podcast and try to find similar ones, we have many posts asking recommendations such as this. In order to not make the sub too repetitive and monotone we try to keep repeat posts to a minimum (see rule 3). So we recommend searching the sub to check out if someone had the same question as you before. These are some old threads as examples of the most requested recommendations ever on this sub:

These lists will be updated from time to time, so that there will be more current podcast recommendations.

CBC’s The Most Wanted Olympian

I just finished this series and have mixed feelings on recommending the podcast. I first heard about Ryan Wedding on Josh Dean’s podcast, Chameleon. I was very intrigued by the case and was excited to see that CBC was covering it. However, the podcast in itself is not so much about Ryan as I was hoping. Rather, it talks about the cartel history in both Montreal and in Mexico, where he had ties to multiple people that were in his inner circle. It also talks about the innocent people that have been caught in the crossfire of violence from the cartels. Because of the nature of the case being about drug trafficking, it’s obvious why the investigators wouldn’t have a lot of people come forward and be open to talking about Ryan or his “career” on the record. But that leads to a lot of unanswered questions and some theories that are never resolved.

I learned a lot about the people who he trusted, as well as the people that betrayed him. I also learned a lot about the differences in how Mexico sees his arrest versus how the US DOJ sees it. And unfortunately, that means having to listen to sound bites of Pam Bondi and Kash Patel.

If you’re interested in some of the background of the people that Ryan worked with, and learning more about what led to his arrest, this might be of interest to you, but I will say that I was a bit disappointed. There’s not much to learn about Ryan himself or what led him to do what he did, that you couldn’t have learned on Chameleon. YMMV!

Please answer a few questions

Hi. I have a couple of quick questions:

  1. What makes you love your favorite true crime podcasts?

  2. Why do you dislike certain ones? Like too much host chatter, host voice pattern etc? Format of storytelling?

I’m cleaning out my favorited true crime podcasts because the list has grown like crazy. I need to weed out but I also need to add new ones.

Thank you so much for your time.

“Deceived- The Daybell Story” Nate Eaton from East Idaho News Hosting a Podcast Series

Nate Eaton and KSL Podcasts have a new podcast series coming out going over the Daybell Trials called “Deceived- The Daybell Story”. He had probably the most extensive coverage at the time, so it should be pretty comprehensive. He just interviewed Brandon Boudreaux about his new book today, too. Looking forward to listening to it.

Small Town Murder Podcast…

Ummmmmm why are they covering soooo much info that we would never care about in terms of the town the crime took place in??? We just want to hear a murder story. I tried listening to one episode and was shocked they would waste so much time talking about nonsense. Did they change their format at some point?! The episode is 3 hours long. I mean more power to them but 😬😬😬😬

Recommending True Crime with a sense if humor

Came across this web series called IT GETS SPOOKY IN THE AFTER HOURS. Interesting name but love the format. Gives me a Forensic Files/Murder Mysteries 90s type of vibe. Definitely recommend if your into true crime but comedy. It’s on youtube

episode rec threads always favor full seasons over single cases

standalone case recs always get buried under 10-part series... even when someone asks for a single self-contained ep people just dump full seasons. it seems like serialized arcs dominate the conversation now and episodic reporting doesnt get a look in. do single-case episodes just lack the narrative hooks needed to make a recommendation list?

Laura Owens (Love Trapped podcast) gets a slap on the wrist for her crimes

Laura Owens was sentenced yesterday to 1 month in jail (not prison), and 7 years probation. She gave a half-assed apology to the victims in her statement to the judge asking for leniency and mostly victimizing herself. The judge seemingly feels like she's a mentally ill poor lonely woman and minimized her crimes and the impact she had in her decade of harassing these people. You can go to r/JusticeForClayton for more details.

Over My Dead Body Season 5: Operation Sideswipe Release Date

On 10/19/26, my podcast feed released a trailer for Over My Dead Body Season 5, the title of which is Operation Sideswipe, being advertised as an Audible podcast . I've only found that one trailer for the new season so far (seems to be the same trailer across all major platforms), but neither the trailer nor the text summary include a date of release for the first episode.

Has anyone heard when the first episode for S5 will be released? I'm hoping the premier episode will be released in the next week or two as I've been looking for another longer form true crime podcast to get into.

Seeking podcasts that actually follow up on cases?

i'm getting tired of podcasts that just lay out a case and move on. does anyone have recommendations for shows that circle back and update you on what actually happened after, or dig into the aftermath? feels like there's so much good material in the "what happened next" part that gets left out.

Seeking podcasts that actually dig into the psychology instead of just recounting facts?

i love a good true crime podcast but i'm getting tired of ones that just list events chronologically like a wikipedia article. looking for recommendations that explore why people do what they do, the psychology behind it, victim profiles, that kind of thing. anyone have favorites that go deeper than just the surface level crime facts?

Recommending Betrayal Season 6

If you haven’t started this yet, do yourself a favor and do it. It’s absolutely insane! I’m still in shock after listening to the latest episode that dropped today.
The only thing that threw me off is that the host gave away the twist on the very first episode, but I can kind of see why they did that… it gets pretty obvious. The latest episode has the most satisfying confession I’ve ever heard in a true crime podcast. The perpetrator is a true sociopath and it shows.

Discussion Bear Brook Season 3 is...

I just finished the two episodes posted today and I'm already dying to know what happens next. So I went back and started Season 2 over again. I'd forgotten how head and shoulders above everything else this podcast is in writing, presentation, professionalism, sensitivity, humanity and how it engages you in ways that sets a high bar for everything else. High tide raises all ships. Brava.

What do you reckon?

Seeking Bad bad thing coming back or similar podcast styles?

Does anyone know if bad bad thing podcast will be coming back? Both seasons of that podcast were fantastic and made you feel so much more connected to the stories when you heard from the police the investigators friends and families and even like S1 the murderer. Has there been any updates if they’ll be another season and if not what true crime podcasts have the same style of investigative journalism w such detail like hers?

Discussion The Journey - The New Yorker Podcast

I’m just wrapping up… a few thoughts:

  1. How flippant the woman who worked in the real estate office was about the “egg farm” or whatever the hell she called it was infuriating. You just… didn’t think twice about these maniacs creating a pop up surrogacy company? Didn’t think maybe it was worth reporting? And she’s laughing about it while retelling it? Some people are so negligent.

  2. The root cause seems completely overlooked. Hard to believe something truly nefarious wasn’t at hand with this situation. They just liked kids and wanted to repopulate isn’t passing the sniff test. Truly zero investigation here. The one surrogate in the last episode just said she was convinced they werent wanting to sell the children… really? Maybe just trying to make herself feel better??

  3. The fact that one of the surrogates is already pregnant as a surrogate again less than a year after birthing one of these babies is alarming. How is she not put off by this industry?

Discussion Proof Season Two: Murder at the Warehouse

I'm catching up on Proof (thanks to those who recommended it!) and am in season two where the deceased's body was found in a Home Depot and the investigation/interviews largely center around why people were at this Home Depot.

Imagine my surprise when 3/4 through the season or so, it started running ads for The Home Depot. Really really curious how this ad placement came about, whether THD just bought ad placement with the production company without further knowledge, what the thinking was of the producers to place that particular ad there...

Recommending shows with zero personal insertions?

hello! TLDR: As the title states, looking for shows with zero personal insertions or opinions.

I've only been listening to one show for years now weekly, being Casefile. And because it scratched the itch, I haven't delved into others. Before finding Casefile, I also listened to S&S (trust me I know, it was pre-pandemic), but I remember even then disliking how many personal opinions or insults he threw at the accused/whoever he found to be in the wrong at the time. Whether the insult is true or not, I find it distasteful and not what I listen to true crime for.
I like Casefile because it's just the info and nothing else. I tried listening to a new show the other day on the Chris Watts case and there was a ten minute preamble about the hosts' personal lives before they even said what the episode was about. Sorry for all the text, I just really dislike Two Best Friends Talking kinds of shows. I found a post on here recommending other shows similar to casefile but yet they still have long preambles about personal stuff. A lot of the time at work my hands aren't free at all and I hate rushing back to my phone to skip ahead. Would love any pointers in the right direction! thanks so much!
