Urgent I used AI in my TAG

Hey everyone, I made my TAG and a lot has changed since then including my career aspirations. I graduated highschool a semester early. For whatever reason, I decided to over explain this and use AI and use a lot of business lingo to say I just worked at an afterschool program (I was very stupid months ago and thought me not doing anything business related in my gap was bad). Another thing I wanted to note was that I wanted to do accounting before and explicit stated this in the description, but now I’m more interested in nonprofit work and my PIQs will talk about this. All my TAG courses are correct and my GPA is basically guaranteed for Davis Econ, but will the AI gap description get me disqualified from all UCs this cycle? How cooked am I? For the normal UC applications I can rewrite my gap explanation (I will not be using AI, I learned my lesson). The schools I really want to go to (Berkeley and LA) will see a normal application without the stupid AI description. I’m scared Davis will see this AI description on my TAG and I will be disqualified from all UCs this cycle. Should I contact Davis or let it be?

International Low GPA EE major for transfer

Hi guys, EE major here hoping to transfer to UCLA, UCSD, or UCI. My GPA is not the best I would say below a 3.5 and i’m wondering if I could still make it to the UCs i’ve listed. I am an international student and some of my ecs are Club President who started the first ever hackathon at my cc, Arduino Piano, CAD robotics hand. Is it still possible for me to get into top UCs even though my GPA is not the best?

Advice/Question SDSU Admissions

I just applied to sdsu with a 3.94 gpa as an out of state transfer student with all my G4 requirements, but I opted out for 3 of the 9 prerequisite courses since I can’t fit them in my timeline by the end of spring. Did I just waste my $70? And what other CSUs should I look into applying to? (Finance major) I can get in state tuition since I grew up and graduated from California. My parents just moved as soon as I graduated so I just have to apply for the 540 thing or wtv. I’m really hoping I get into sdsu by fall, but I need someone to let me know if it’s fries since the school is impacted.

Advice/Question Should I transfer from NYU to Rutgers–New Brunswick if my goal is law school?

I'm currently a student at NYU, and I've been seriously considering transferring to Rutgers–New Brunswick, but I'm really conflicted and could use some advice.

For context, my dad is paying full tuition at NYU because my family is pretty well-off, so I didn't qualify for any financial aid. I also didn't receive any merit scholarships. I honestly feel like I got pretty lucky getting into NYU in the first place because I wasn't exactly an exceptional student in high school.

Right now, I have a 3.7 GPA, which I know isn't terrible, but I also have two W's on my transcript. Both withdrawals were due to a pretty serious health issue involving my heart, so I had legitimate reasons for withdrawing. Still, I worry about how this will look when I eventually apply to law school.

This semester also hasn't been going as well as I'd hoped. I'm predicting that I'll probably finish with two A's and two B's, which isn't awful, but I feel like I'm constantly struggling to maintain a competitive GPA.

My ultimate goal is to attend a good law school, and I know how important undergraduate GPA and LSAT scores are in that process. I'm starting to question whether paying NYU's extremely high tuition is worth it, especially if I could potentially attend Rutgers–New Brunswick for significantly less money (in-state) and maybe perform better academically.

I also feel guilty because, even though my dad can afford NYU, I don't want him spending all this money if it won't necessarily improve my chances of getting into a good law school. I know I'm incredibly fortunate to be in a position where my parents can pay for my education, and I don't take that for granted.

Part of me also feels like I don't really belong at NYU academically. I know a 3.7 isn't a bad GPA, but I constantly feel like I'm not doing well enough, especially compared to the people around me.

So I guess my questions are:

  • Would transferring from NYU to Rutgers–New Brunswick make sense if my main goal is law school?
  • Would two W's on my transcript hurt my law school applications significantly, even if they were due to a documented medical condition?
  • Am I overthinking my GPA and academic performance?
  • Has anyone been in a similar position where they transferred from a more expensive/private university to a cheaper state school? Did you regret it?

I'd especially appreciate advice from current law students, people who have gone through law school admissions, or anyone who's transferred out of NYU.

I genuinely don't know whether staying at NYU is worth the money and stress or whether transferring would be the smarter decision long-term.

Advice/Question Title: I feel like I've completely lost my spark at my HBCU and I'm thinking about transferring to a PWI

I'm honestly just looking to vent and maybe hear from people who have gone through something similar because I've been struggling with this for a while now.

I'm currently a junior at an HBCU, and I genuinely feel like I've lost the person I was before coming here. I came in so excited about the HBCU experience. I wanted to be surrounded by Black excellence, make lifelong friendships, get involved, and really find my community. And for a while, I thought that was what I was building. But especially over this past semester, I've realized how unhappy I've become.

The frustrating part is that I'm actually doing really well academically and professionally. I have a 3.9 GPA, I'm in the Honors College, involved in student government, hold leadership positions in multiple organizations, and have been fortunate enough to participate in some really competitive fellowships and research opportunities. I'm not saying any of this to brag, but because I think people automatically assume that if you're doing well on paper, you must be having a great college experience.

But honestly, almost every major opportunity I've had is something I sought out myself. I did the research, applied, networked, and found ways to make things happen for myself. I'm proud of that, but it also makes me wonder what I'm really getting out of being here beyond the degree itself.

I think one of my biggest issues is the social environment. I knew Greek life was a big part of HBCU culture before coming here, but I genuinely did not realize just how much EVERYTHING would revolve around it. And I have absolutely nothing against Greek organizations, but it's exhausting feeling like Greek life dictates so much of the social hierarchy on campus. It feels like everything is about who knows who, who's trying to be Greek, who's popular, who's getting attention, and who's affiliated with what organization. Sometimes it feels like people care more about being seen than actually doing anything meaningful.

And the people... I don't even know how to explain it without sounding bitter, but I've encountered so many people who just seem fake. Everything feels so performative and artificial. People will smile in your face, act like they're supporting you, and then turn around and do the complete opposite. I've dealt with unnecessary drama, poor communication, and feeling unsupported in organizations that I've poured so much time and energy into. It's gotten to the point where I don't even enjoy being involved anymore, which is crazy because being involved and serving others has always been such a huge part of who I am.

I know every college has cliques, drama, and people who aren't genuine. I'm not expecting some perfect experience elsewhere. But I also don't think I should have to convince myself to be happy somewhere just because other people love it.

Another thing I've realized is how much I miss being in a more diverse environment. And I know that might sound strange considering I'm at an HBCU, but I grew up around people from so many different racial, cultural, and socioeconomic backgrounds. I miss that. I miss being around different perspectives and communities, and I honestly think I underestimated how important that was to me.

I've been seriously considering transferring to a PWI closer to home, and I know the first thing people are going to say is that I'm already a junior and should just push through.

But the thing is, I don't want to just push through.

I'm only 20. I'm not in a rush to graduate, and I genuinely don't mind spending another year or even two in college if it means being somewhere I'm actually happy. I know some credits might not transfer, and I know I'd essentially be starting over socially, but neither of those things bothers me as much as the thought of staying somewhere that makes me miserable.

What's really been bothering me lately is that I don't recognize myself anymore. I used to be so excited about everything. I loved getting involved, meeting people, planning events, volunteering, and just making the most out of every opportunity. Now I find myself wanting to withdraw from everything. I've spent so much of this semester frustrated, disappointed, or on the verge of tears because it feels like every time I try to make something positive happen, there's another issue.

And I hate that because that's not who I am.

I also want to make it clear that I don't regret choosing an HBCU, nor do I think HBCUs are bad institutions. I understand their importance, and I know people who have had absolutely amazing experiences at them. I just think I'm coming to terms with the fact that something can be a wonderful experience for someone else and still not be the right experience for me.

I think a part of me feels guilty because I worked so hard to get where I am. I've built relationships with professors, established myself in leadership, and accomplished things I'm genuinely proud of. Walking away from that feels scary. But at the same time, I keep asking myself whether any of that is worth sacrificing my happiness.

I want to be excited about college again. I want to meet genuine people, explore new things, be intellectually challenged, and actually enjoy the environment I'm in. I don't want my entire college experience to revolve around campus politics, social status, or trying to fit into spaces that don't feel authentic to me.

And honestly, I think the hardest part is accepting that the college experience I imagined for myself just hasn't turned out the way I hoped.

Has anyone else transferred from an HBCU to a PWI and genuinely felt happier afterward? Or has anyone transferred as a junior and ended up spending extra time in college?

I would especially love to hear from people who were really involved and academically successful at their previous school but still decided to leave.

I guess I'm just trying to figure out if it's okay to walk away from something you've worked hard to build when you realize it isn't making you happy anymore.

Advice/Question PLEASE HELP - should I drop a class?

I’m taking calc 2 this semester and I have a C. The professor is really strict, and I don’t see myself bettering my grade.

Should I drop and take in the winter? I have a 3.8 GPA and planning to apply to transfer this month. I’m just undecided bc I already have a W from previous semester just bc I missed the drop deadline and I’m scared this will hurt my app further.

I wanted to apply to UCI for business economics and I noticed they require a B in calc 2 for the application. What should I do?

Advice/Question Might get a C in Calc 3 am I cooked for Data Science?

Data Science Fall 2027 transfer applicant here, I messed up when making my fall semester schedule and took a heavier course load than I thought I could handle. I had an A on my first Calc 3 Exam, so I thought I’d be fine, but I got cooked on the second exam and got a C which brought my grade down to a low B since exams are 100% of our grade. I’m confident I’ll be able to get an A in my other classes this semester (English, Data Structures, and Elementary Statistics), but I’m very worried about getting a C in this class because it’s a major preparation requirement and would look terrible on my application since it would indicate a downwards trend rather than an upwards trajectory on my transcript. Unfortunately, I cannot withdraw from this class since the withdrawal date has passed, and doing so would’ve added an extra semester onto my application anyways. I have all As in every class aside from a B in Calc 2, so getting a C would definitely ruin my application. But I’ve been so stressed trying to write PIQs, working, doing side gigs, that I haven’t been entirely focused on my coursework up until this point.

I’m not sure if I’m confident enough in getting my grade up to a B at least, although the final exam does replace the lowest test score so I don’t think I’m completely cooked. I just want to know realistically what would happen in the worst case scenario if I were to get a C (or even B) in this class. Has anyone with a C in a major prep class applying to a somewhat competitive major managed to get into a good college? As of right now prior to my fall semester being completed, I have a 3.89 overall GPA (major prep is probably lower) and a few ECs, still working on my PIQs. I’m only applying to UCSD, SDSU, UCI, UCLA, UCR, UCSB (TAG). All for Data Science or Statistics & Data Science, plus inputted alternate majors but I know most UCs don’t consider those. Ideally would like to get into UCSD/SDSU since I’d be a commuter and save money but it’s looking bleak at this point.

Discussion Difficult schedules to make transfer requirements

Hello, I didn't make this post to ask for amy specific advise but just to vent/hear from other people.

I'm trying to transfer to my local university from cc for engineering in only one year off cc. I'm halfway into my first quarter and its going all right, but the planning that goes into this plan is ridiculous.

It looks like my planned courses next quarter have a conflict, and due to the short timeline for transfer I might have to take classes at different campuses or reorder the classes if its even possible. The schedule will be so dense (dynamics, next phys course, chem)

I'm just a but disheartened. I really can't picture myself staying at cc for another year if my plan doesn't work. I can bite my lip for a year but I strongly dislike cc and haven't really met anyone I can relate to here.

Is anyone going through similar things? Does it get any better

Chance Me Chance Me: 4.0 GPA, One-Year CCC Transfer to UCLA/Berkeley (Sociology)

Chance Me: 4.0 GPA, One-Year CCC Transfer to UCLA/Berkeley (Sociology)

I’m a California community college student applying to transfer in Fall 2027 after just one year. I’d appreciate honest opinions about my chances!

Academics:

  • Major: Sociology
  • College GPA: 4.0
  • High school GPA: ~3.5
  • PCC Honors Program
  • Sociology AA-T in progress
  • Expected 60+ UC-transferable units by Spring 2027 (including AP credits)
  • Assuming all major prerequisites and transfer requirements are completed

Extracurriculars & Leadership:

  • CORE ICC Representative: Represent an organization supporting formerly incarcerated and system-impacted students.
  • Correctional School Outreach: Helped organize visits to correctional high schools and spoke with incarcerated/system-impacted teenagers.
  • Campus Initiative: Created an art-sharing event connecting CORE students with the broader campus community; proposal approved by student government.
  • Research: Studied prison education and recidivism. Preparing to present at a college conference; hoping to apply to a UCI research conference.
  • Community Service: 350+ hours through the Dream Act Service Incentive Grant, plus 100+ hours in high school.
  • Journalism: High school writer/editor; published articles on social and political issues.
  • Writing Recognition: Nominated by a college professor to present at the Beyond Borders conference.
  • Law Firm Internship: Six months.
  • Work Experience: Academic tutor (~20 hours/week during high school), full-time summer tutor, and camp counselor.
  • Volleyball: High school team captain.
  • Other: Philosophy Club, EOPS, First Gen Center, DSIG Fellowship, and volunteer tutoring/translation for immigrant students.

Awards:
English Department Oscar Award, Star Award, Best Bulldog Award, Scholar Athlete (twice), Best Sportsmanship, and Best Defensive Player.

Personal Background:
I’m a first-generation college student who immigrated to the US at 15. I spent two years in ELD classes and experienced significant immigration-related challenges, including detention and deportation proceedings. Despite this, I’ve maintained a 4.0 GPA while pursuing an accelerated transfer.

Schools: UCLA, UC Berkeley, UCSB, UCD, UCSC.

Questions:

  1. What are my realistic chances at UCLA and Berkeley for Sociology?
  2. Does being a one-year transfer hurt my chances?
  3. What are the biggest strengths and weaknesses of my application?

Chance Me [ChanceMe & Advice] Low HS GPA Athlete -> Athletic Soph Transfer for Nursing

HS GPA: 2.89

Uni GPA: ~3.6-4.0

SAT: 1010

Current Major: Undecided

Intended Major when transferring: Nursing / Bio or Psych

Demographic: First-Gen Lower class black/latino

HS ECs: Track & Field (4 years), Student Gov (1 year), Work(2 years), Photography (1 year).

College ECs: Photography & Videography (1 year), Track club assistant coach (6 months when applying), Track Athlete(1 year, unattached), African Party catering & Facility Assistant (2 years).

LORs: maybe 1 good LOR, with the other being alright.

Essay Hook (very rough draft): The atmosphere was still; the air was deafeningly silent. Someone coughed, but that was beside the point. Suddenly, a gunshot rang out. Screaming followed, the scraping of spikes against the track, followed by the clack of spikes hitting the track, each footfall chasing the next as runners surged down the straightaway… then the shutter of my camera, trying to capture what the eye couldn’t. Later, athletes crossed the finish line. The cheers swelled in sound, and gradually got quieter. Till another round of athletes stepped up, another shot cracking through the still air, another barrage of footsteps along the track, with more shutters of my camera. Again and again, this repeated in orderly fashion. It was a sequence that repeated itself, not only at this track meet, but at many others. As I stood with my camera, capturing moments, it quickly became evident to me that two races were never the same.

Extenuating Circumstances: I've had a lot of circumstances that've fucked me over that I've mentioned on my Common App. My dad was in debt, and I had to work while already being poor to help him pay off some of his debt, while also giving some money to help with household bills. My brother has prune belly syndrome and had no kidney, up until last year. When my mother was exhausted from taking care of him at home, I would take over for a while. He had a seizure that paused whatever I had going on to make sure it wouldn't happen again.

School List (Nursing): UVA, UNC, Umich, Upenn (#1 choice), Case Western, NYU.
School List (Bio/Psych): Amherst, Brown, Colgate, BU, BC, Georgetown, Cornell, Princeton, Yale, and UConn, & some others.

I also need advice on either getting another job or doing inpatient care volunteering.

Advice/Question Transfer advice cc -> usc

I’m a first year at California community college and I’m definitely struggling to get involved in campus and make friends. I really want to transfer in 1 year and with usc 30 unit transfer requirements I’m interested in applying there.
My stats:
Political science major
Gpa: 4.0 (hopefully can keep till end of semester)
Honors transfer program
A few honors classes
Maybe published research?
Retail job
Mock trial club member
Does anyone have any advice of ways I can get more involved and any advice for transferring to usc? Is it doable? Has anyone successfully transferred in a year?

Advice/Question Need Honest Advice (CC Transfer)

Hey guys I’m currently in my second year of community college as a finance major (hoping to minor in kinesiology when I transfer). I currently have a 3.5 gpa and about average extracurriculars (I have a fitness account on TikTok that blew up so I haven’t put as much time as I should’ve into school). I would just like some brutally honest expectations / recommendations on applying to schools.

Advice/Question Is it worth it to transfer in 2 years instead of 1?

I’m hoping to transfer in one year, but I have a B in Calc2 so I’m thinking of dropping and going for another year to redo. I desperately want to leave my house and go to uni, but I’m not sure what to do.

My profile for context:
- California Community College
- Business applicant
- Pretty okay extracurriculars (International outreach, app building, part time job, startup experience)
- Retaking SAT for 1500+
- Hoping to go to UC Berkeley or Stanford
- HS UW GPA: 3.78 / W 4.33

Advice/Question Should I transfer from NYU to UVA?

I've been at nyu as a freshman for a little over a month, and so far I like it here! I mainly like the city of course, I like the independence and I like my classes a lot. I don't really have any good friends, and I think it will be very hard to make any until I start going to clubs, and just in general since its such a disconnected untraditional atmosphere to be in for college.

The reason I am thinking of transferring is because of financial reasons. My family did not receive any financial aid. We are paying 400,000 dollars out of pocket for my bachelors, and the only way we could receive aid is if we sold our house-- my parents are immigrants, and therefore it is difficult for me to get a clear view of our financial situation since my dad has always been very stingy with money even way before college, and my mom won't let me worry about finances. I just know that they've had to post pone their retirement by 6 years and that I'm literally not allowed to spend any money whatsoever (even on food, I can only use my meal plan and omny) until I get a job.

I have a lot of really good friends at UVA. But I'm afraid im going to regret leaving the city, which I love so much and feel overjoyed to spend my late teen years in. I know I would be so so so happy being with those friends at UVA, and there's a higher ranking and it would be much more affordable for my family. I'm just scared I'm going to view it as a major downgrade being in cville, and I don't like any of the majors there as much as here. Plus NYC has much more opportunity for media, which I want to go into.

Advice/Question Is it worth it to go from a uc to a cc?

I’m currently enrolled in ucr, but I’m thinking about going to a cc after this year for a better shot at a better uc. I don’t know if this is viable since I’m already enrolled in the uc system, and I don’t know how my credit will transfer. I would like to hear about how you guys thinks, thanks!

Advice/Question What’s the chance of acceptance as sophomore transfer? To uc?

I won’t be able to complete my credit, pre-req or GE bc I got to gap the next 2 quarter of my class at ucr. I’m probably going to apply after I come back and finish my major prep, but I still wanna apply this year as a sophomore transfer. Does anyone know if it is possible?
