Discussion Federal judge strikes down NY ban on body armor

Federal judge rules that New York’s body armor ban violates Second Amendment

Obviously unconstitutional law was unconstitutional. It was already a crime to use body armor while committing a crime.

Why make it illegal for the average person to buy body armor if they want? Was Kathy Hochul mad that it could make it harder for police to murder civilians?

How many people per year are killed by body armor? I'm trying to figure out why my representatives voted for this in the first place.

News Micron Clay weekly jobs update — October 26, 2026: 415 tracked postings, 135 active Micron and Bechtel listings

Weekly summary — compared with October 19:

  • Micron + Bechtel cumulative tracked postings: 415 — up 15 from 400.
  • Micron + Bechtel active listings: 135 — up 18 from 117.
  • Third-party cumulative tracked postings: 300 — up 3 from 297.
  • Across all three categories: 715 cumulative tracked postings — up 18 from 697.

The 715 figure represents postings tracked over time, including listings that have closed. It is not a count of current openings, hires, or people employed.

Here’s the breakdown for the week of October 20–26:

Micron Direct

Micron now has 155 cumulative tracked postings, up 2, and 33 active listings, also up 2.

The two newly tracked roles are:

  • Senior Process Mechanical Engineer: $99,000–$169,000
  • Construction Engineering Design Manager: $127,000–$221,000

One previously tracked position returned to the active list, while another was no longer listed.

The median salary midpoint among active listings with pay information remains about $159,000. Posted active salary ranges extend from approximately $61,000 to $263,000. Pay was available for 31 of the 33 active listings.

Bechtel

Bechtel now has 260 cumulative tracked postings, up 13, and 102 active listings, up 16.

The 13 newly tracked requisitions cover 12 different titles. Examples include:

  • Workforce Development Trainer: $91,000–$138,800
  • Labor Relations Analyst: $78,000–$119,000
  • Field Expeditor: $91,700–$132,600
  • Field Construction Equipment Manager: $105,000–$160,200 — two separate requisitions
  • Field Buyer: $91,000–$138,800
  • Tool Manager: $105,000–$160,200
  • Onsite Falsework Coordinator: $78,000–$119,000
  • Supply Chain Data Analyst: $91,700–$132,600
  • Lead Turnover Coordinator: $123,400–$178,500
  • CIF Superintendent, CUB/Trestle: $105,000–$160,200

The active-list increase also includes returning postings: 13 new requisitions and 10 returning listings, offset by 7 that were no longer active.

The median active salary midpoint remains approximately $132,600, with usable posted ranges spanning about $49,300–$234,300.

Third-party employers

The broader third-party tracker reached 300 cumulative postings, up 3. Within that total, the narrower subset with stronger evidence of work tied to the Micron property increased to 55, up 2.

The three newly added tracker entries are:

  • Jacobs — Mechanical Engineer, Semiconductor: $102,900–$141,500
  • Parsons — Project Control Specialist: pay not captured
  • Sheakley Workforce Staffing — Safety Supervisor, Syracuse: $56/hour, approximately 30 hours per week, advertised as a three-month contract

These are newly added to the tracker, but their posting dates precede this reporting week. The Jacobs listing has a different posting ID from an older, similar listing; its classification as a distinct opportunity remains provisional.

The median midpoint among third-party postings with usable two-sided salary ranges is approximately $115,350, up $175. The third-party figures are cumulative; a verified current active total is not available.

What stands out this week

Bechtel accounts for most of the growth in active listings, with opportunities across construction supervision, purchasing, logistics, workforce development, labor relations, and turnover coordination. Micron’s two additions focus on engineering and construction design.

These figures track public job advertisements. A posting can represent multiple openings, and a returning or reposted listing does not necessarily mean a newly created position. Third-party listings cover the broader semiconductor ecosystem; project connections vary.

Anyone applying or interviewing for these roles? Interested to hear how the process is going.

Information & Advice support groups- TTC/infertility/miscarriages

Hi, I have been dealing with infertility and recurrent pregnant losses. Going on 2 years. Most of my family and friends aren’t local. I’ve realized I could use support of women who are going through this too. Are there any in person support groups locally for this?

Non-natives, we’ve explored the Erie Canal trails and now looking for a new , perhaps less ‘trafficked’ (public) trail which is easy on the knees but also show vibrant colors and landscapes.

Suggestions within say, 15min drive?

Discussion Used Car Deals at Romano Dealerships

Hey everyone!

I'm looking to buy a used car from a Romano Mazda or Subaru dealership. I've heard that dealers tend to be more desperate at the end of the month to get through their quotas. Does there tend to be better deals at the end of the year, from November to December, compared to the deals that are available now? Or do prices tend to be around the same?

Recommendation Wanted Flooring my kitchen need someone’s help who can possibly do this quickly

I recently ripped up my kitchen floor and thought that it would be in my capabilities of doing and putting back down, but I recently got custody of my son and with having to work and still have to get him on the bus for school and stuff I haven’t had any time. Does anybody have any suggestions on who might be a good person to get this job done quickly? I already have the entire floor ripped up pretty much other than where the refrigerator and washer and dryer is if possible we can go right around that.

Information & Advice This is by a long shot, but wanted to share. Now I laugh at this story

• Upvotes

In 2021 I traveled to Syracuse by bus. While waiting at the bus stop, a brown skin 5’8-‘9 heavy set, bald guy wearing a brown leather jacket walked up to me asking me if I first had a lighter because he saw me smoking. I told him “no, it’s my vape”. He walks off but then comes back & asked me if I can help him buy a bus ticket back to Boston. He pulls a wad of cash, I didn’t look too hard but I saw a couple of $20 & other bills. He said he was $14 & some change short. He was v specific on the amount.
I told him that I can go up with him & pay the remaining balance on my card if it’s under $20. He tells me that you can’t split payment methods.
So I proceed to tell him I can’t help him then bc I only have my card. This man, very condescending goes “OH there’s a ATM inside!!” While also pointing to the inside of the building. I looked at this fucking man like he was crazy asf!!!! He starts immediately apologizing & telling me a sob story of how he’s just trying to get home. Blah blah blah, the works.

At this point I’m just annoyed asf because I really didn’t want to take out money. DD or subways wasn’t open so I couldn’t even make change & now I’m basically adding $10 to the total. I’m thinking all of this in my head while he’s begging for my help.

Now, this was a big man & at the time I was 21. I DID NOT want to do it but I had to weigh my options bc he already knew I had access to money. I feel like even if I said no, he wouldn’t have left me alone. So I ended up doing it for him. After I gave him the money I was still annoyed but he just thanked me, told me god bless & I went on my way.

The next morning I head to the bus station & guess who I see??? The same bald man in his brown leather jacket. When he saw me & rushed inside & I didn’t see him at all.

I honestly haven’t thought of it since until someone just tried to pull the same stunt lowkey. I don’t really know what I want out of this since it was so long ago but I guess I am wondering if that man is still around doing this!

Again, I was young so he probably prays on college kids or just does it to everyone.

Moving & Relocation Moving to the area soon-ish and I have some questions

Moving to the area soon-ish (don't know exactly when yet) and I have a bunch of random questions:

First, what are some decent apartments in Liverpool? I’m currently looking into Charter Oaks, Covered Bridges, and maybe Tulip Ridge if they have anything available soon. Pinecrest also looks good on paper but I’ve done some lurking here and people act like Suburban shot their dog which makes me a bit hesitant. If none of those are good, what is good? I’d like to keep it less than $1800 per month for everything but can go a bit higher if needed. I’d also prefer 1 bedroom but can afford 2 if I need to get around unavailability.

Also what are some good third spaces to meet friends / find a date? I know bars are the obvious answer but idk which bars are popular with people my age (22M). If there’s other good third spaces I’d like to know about them too. If it helps to know a bit about me, I’m into college football and I’m only a lightweight nerd because I build PCs and play video games (mod the hell out of them too), but I’m not into stuff like D&D or most other things you would associate with nerd culture. There’s a few anime I like but I don’t vibe with most.

What are the best places to learn snowboarding? I’m thinking about getting into that so I have a reason to go outside even in the winter.

Best place for a haircut for men with medium-long hair?

Anything else I should know? Before anyone mentions it, I know how the winters are. I once lived in Erie so I’ve seen lake effect before. But other than that, my knowledge of this place is limited to what I’ve learned from lurking here for a few months. I’ve never even been to NY before

Thanks in advance. And feel free to DM me if you think we’d get along because I don’t know a single soul in this city😭

Moving & Relocation Relocating to Syracuse. Looking for neighborhood and commute advice!

Hello!

I’ll be relocating to Syracuse in a couple of months and am trying to choose a neighborhood that fits my needs, keeping the ongoing highway construction in mind.

Job is in DeWitt.

I landed on Franklin Square, Westcott and Eastwood as far as options. Looking to strike a balance between walkability and a nice commute to work without a daily side quest.

Any other suggestions including apartment recommendations appreciated!

Thank you!
