Elections & Politics No Kings "Vote Early" Megathread | October 17, 2026
We're going to try having a Megathread for all the protests happening across upstate NY this weekend. Please use this thread to post information on event times/locations, pictures of the events, and any questions about the events.
Other posts will be removed in order to keep discussion centralized here.
This is NOT the thread to debate national politics, or for insulting protesters (or counter protestors). Comments doing so will be removed and may result in a ban.
For more information on voting, please visit https://elections.ny.gov/
Stay safe this weekend everyone!

/r/Upstate_New_York is back open!
Hello fellow upstaters!
About a month and a half ago, /r/upstate_new_york was set to restricted and all the moderators left.
As someone who was born and raised in Upstate New York, I didn't want to see this sub shuttered. So I requested ownership from the Admins.
This sub is now reopened! Hopefully we can keep things going as smoothly as they were before.
A few FAQs:
No rules are changing - we'll likely have a post in the coming weeks to discuss rules and what the community wants.
If you want to be a mod, please don't message me. I'm going to get a handle on this first, and then likely open up mod positions over the coming weeks depending on the workload.
I have no idea why this all happened. The moderation logs were cleared before I was given access.

Meet Upstate NY’s ‘Crazy Cemetery Lady,’ who’s bringing forgotten history to life
After 20 years as a nurse, Allyson Stephenson became Upstate New York’s “Crazy Cemetery Lady.” She has cleaned more than 3,000 headstones in cemeteries across Central and Northern New York and tells the stories of the people beyond the grave to millions of viewers on social media.

Runaway Highland cow leads Upstate NY police on 4-day chase (video)
Maggie the Highland cow was just a New England girl leaf peeping in Upstate New York - and then the cops showed up.
The cow was delivered to a Putnam County farm, but she escaped shortly after and led police on a four-day chase around the area.
Drivers were surprised when Maggie came running by their cars before being lassoed and brought to safety.

Catskills on Large Format 4x5
Went to the Catskills about 2 weeks ago with my family and brought my 4x5 LF camera along with me.
I don't mean to add to the overdone fall pics here - but I enjoyed my time.
Upstate NY has been my savior. I am extremely jealous of those out in the western half of the U.S. - you can practically point your camera anywhere and the images compose themselves - the Catskills and the ADK give me the mountains that I wish I could visit, and I am grateful for that. While popular here, these locations aren't anywhere near as popular as the western U.S. national parks/mountain ranges - and that's okay with me - because there is a ton of beauty to capture in upstate NY that goes untouched by a lot of photographers - mainly because they just write off most of the northeast region (besides Acadia) - but I'm glad - it keeps a lot of photographers away, and leaves more for those of us who know and appreciate the NE!
Mods - sorry for posting this a third time! I deleted the previous ones, colors are shifting and changing every time I post for some reason. I uploaded a different file, I’ll leave it be now either way. Thanks.

Allen's Falls
Took a drive up to Potsdam this past weekend. The foliage was a couple weeks past peak but the St Regis was flowing strong. Brings back memories of many a day spent by these running waters

Looking for resources on non profit victim advocate for a friend in the Sandy Creek area
Without going into too much detail on her personal situation, I have a friend in Sandy Creek NY that is experiencing domestic violence by a family member. After much time and police contact, a protection order was finally issued by a court, however it’s been several days and the police haven’t gotten around to serving it. The behaviors are escalating without the order served.
At this point I feel my friend is being neglected by police - she’s a woman in low income, recently widowed, and has dealt with so much with this other family member. I worry for her safety, and am wondering how to help her find a non profit or agency to work with to help her and be a voice? I live across the country, and Google research was very little help. Hoping someone in the community can help, thanks so much!

Cortland, NY Advocacy For Disabled
Hello,
I know this is a long shot, but I am asking for help. I am wheelchair bound and rely heavily on the bus service in Cortland to get everywhere, including my chemotherapy appointments. On a fixed income the $1 bus service has been nothing short of a saving grace in my budget. I am only allowed a certain number of medical transports with my healthcare, so I rely on the bus to bridge those gaps. This has worked fine for me as I don’t want much and don’t need much, allowing me to narrowly make ends meet within my budget. But over the last two months, Centro has cancelled the buses I’ve needed multiple times a week, causing me to be without food for the night at times, and even missing nearly 10 chemotherapy appointments as medical taxis will only allow so many emergency short notice calls, or so I’ve been told. I’m asking for someone to go to the public hearing this Wednesday, October 28th at 4pm at 60 Central Avenue, The County Office Building, to advocate on my (and all bus riders) behalf as I wanted to attend but I cannot miss any more chemotherapy as the efficacy is surely being affected by my inconsistent treatment, and I’ve already scheduled my medical transport. If needed, I am willing to pay, I’ve already amassed a bit of credit card debt from this bus company’s failures, so I do not mind scrounging up what I can to pay an advocate and supplement my bills with more charged this month. If anyone can help me, please PM me.

Buffalo Central Terminal from the air, as published in December 1930. The 1907 plan for this site came with a commuter line on the Belt Line, a small downtown station for tickets and baggage, and streetcars to serve it. Only the station was built.

Fundraiser for water rescue equipment; Broadalbin Fire Dept
I know people here may be visitors to the Great Sacandaga Lake in the summertime, so I thought this may be a good place to post this. The local fire department has had an increasing number of calls for water rescue over the recent years, especially with tourism & lake traffic increasing. They're looking to purchase a boat. If you've made use of the lake and want to give back in the name of safety, or just feel like helping out, the link to their fundraiser is below. :)

🏠LOOKING FOR SOMEONE TO TAKE OVER MY HALF OF A LEASE IN LIVERPOOL, NY!
I recently moved from Syracuse to Rochester to be closer to my family, so I’m looking for someone to take over my half of the lease and become my current roommate’s new roommate! 😊
📅 Ideal move-in date: December 1, 2026
📅 Lease ends: April 30, 2027
🐱 Pets: My roommate has a cat, so you must be comfortable living with cats!
$725 a month plus wifi and electricity. Heat and water are provided.
A little about the living situation: My roommate is in her early 30s and will continue living in the apartment. You’d be taking over my spot, not renting an entire apartment.
If you’re looking for a place in the Syracuse area or know someone who might be interested, please message me! I’d be happy to share more details about the rent, apartment, location, and anything else you’d like to know.
Please feel free to share this post to help me find someone! ❤️
