Adv suggestions for my use case?

Hi folks!

I'm planning a big motorcycle adventure across Canada coast to coast in the next couple years. I currently ride the MT09 for my city riding and short trips in neighboring cities/towns (No more than 100km one way). I am looking for used but for the right price I don't have any issues going for new. My budget is $15,000 CAD. Though again that's more like my guideline, if something I love comes up I don't mind spending a little more.

I'm relatively new to off-road riding, but I'd love to explore gravel roads, forestry roads, Crown land, and remote camping spots along the way. I imagine my riding will be around 80/20 road to off road. I'm not particularly interested in difficult single track or extreme technical riding.

I'd like to hear from people who've done similar long-distance adventures across Canada, the US, or even Central and South America.

What motorcycles did you use? What kind of terrain did you actually encounter? Did you ever wish you'd chosen something more road oriented or more off road capable? What would you suggest?

Thanks everyone!

6’5 220lbs looking for a starter bike cruiser

First bike ever. I’ve heard Yamaha vstar 1100 and Honda shadow 1100 are good starters. Worried about the leg room without forward extenders. Any guidance would be appreciated.

Should I but from dealer or private seller?

I've got a moral dilemma. This morning I went to a dealership that actually allows test rides. The salesman handed me the keys and let me loose. Being unfamiliar with the area, I stopped several times to look at my map to figure out where in the hell I was. By the time I got back, I had been gone for about an hour, and had driven about 50 miles. I apologized for being gone so long and he blew it off, said it wasn't a problem. This one is a '22 with 11,300 miles for $5,200. There's another one I've had my eye in from a private seller. That one is a '21 with 3,700 miles, less than 1/3 the mileage of the other one, for $4200, $1,000 cheaper, but is about 1.5 hours further away (2hr 20min) than the dealership (50min). Factoring in the fact that this one looks like it'll need new tires, I'd definitely get it serviced, I'd probably have to rent a trailer to go pick it up, gas prices, I imagine it wouldn't be that far off of the price of the one at the dealership. And, the moral part of it, I don't want to be that asshole that goes in, puts wear and tear on their product, then ghosts them. So, is it worth spending the extra up front at the dealership, since it's ready to ride, or is the difference in mileage big enough to consider the cheaper one. And, this is a huge dealership, not some little side of the road store, they have 4 different buildings on their site, they sell all of the Japanese big 4, and a few other brands, and are pretty reputable in the area.

Need advice.

Hi there. I'm in the market for a new bike. I'm 53 and haven't ridden a motorcycle in 20 years. Except for 1 summer about 5 years ago. I bought a z1000 and rode that for a season. I did not like that motorcycle, otherwise I'd still have it. Nothing wrong with the bike, it ran great. I can't tell you what it was I didn't like. I just didn't enjoy riding it. So I'm in the market again. I want a bike with electronic suspension. 2025 Speed Triple? I've recently fallen in l9ve with Speed/Street Triples. The Guzzi v100 Mandello s is also pretty tasty. I've always l9ved Monsters, too. The 20252026 Monster sp is very attractive, too.

I am thinking of buying a Suzuki Desperado, stupid choice?

Hi guys, I need your help with a decision. I want to buy a chopper/cruiser, my budget is quite low, so I found a Suzuki desperado 400cc 1999 with only 45k km. The question is, are these bikes reliable after all these years, if the owner took care of it of course. Or should I look for something newer? Thanks for any help!

My Beginner Bike. Thoughts?

For my first bike when I finish my MSF course, I was thinking of the Honda CB500 Hornet. This might change after my MSF course because I might have a better idea for my first bike after I get a feel for a motorcycle, but I am leaning more towards this bike because of how beginner friendly I think it is. What do we think chat?

Next Bike? New bike needed for commute to and from work (aprox. 30 km total)

Following a recent car accident, I’m looking for a good motorcycle that can still provide me with some enjoyment. My budget is a maximum of €2,500. I only hold a license for bikes up to 35 kW, however, my first motorcycle was a MT-07 , which I rode for 4 years.

I’d like to try out some supersport bikes. I plan to ride this one for a maximum of about a year.
What would you recommend, and what are my options at this price point? I’m open to paying a bit more if necessary, but I definitely don’t want to exceed €4,000–€5,000. Or do I just go for a reliable scooter that is nice for commute to and from work. Could go for a full A licence later, but due to the accident, i'm a bit short on cash rn.

Next Bike? 97 Honda Shadow 600 vs 2013 HD Forty-Eight?

Good morning! New rider here, getting into my first bike.

Had an opportunity to get a clean 97 Honda Shadow 600 low miles and untampered with, or a 2013 HD Forty Eight, some bolt ons needs new battery. Both extremely low miles.

I know nothing about bikes. Please if anyone could let me know which would be a great fit or pros and cons for both? Thank you!!

1990 Suzuki Katana for a first bike?

See a guy offering one currently for $500 with 24,000mi.

"Pretty solid running bike has some cosmetic damage and fairings are off currently. Clutch is starting to slip but still rideable. Price is $500 FIRM!!! CLEAN TITLE!!!"

Is this worth learning to ride / maintain? Or move on?

Beginner Cruiser

I just got my permit, and have been looking at the Honda Shadow 750. Is it a good bike to learn on after my MSF course? If not what are some decent cruisers that I should look out for?

Next Bike? Can't find a comfy naked bike

Hey guys,

I'm 28 and pretty much a beginner when it comes to driving and I started with an Z900 because I really loved the looks but at some point it just wasn't fun anymore because my back and neck started hurting after like 5 minutes so after a lot of try and error with risers, new seats and so forth I sold it.

Now I'm basically looking for a tourer with naked bike optics for longer riding sessions with some comfort.

I already drove the cb650r which was honestly pretty close to what I'm looking for but there was still back pain, sat on the MT09 from 2026 which was pretty much the same, tried the cb750 hornet which was also caused rapid back pain. I also tried a tourer (some from honda, don't remember the name) and there my back was okay but I really just can't bring myself to like one.

So my question is, did you have the same struggle? And if so, what was your solution? I'm really thankful for any suggestions.

Ducati Streetfighter v2 or MT09

Looking for suggestions on what should be my next bike. I currently have a 2008 Triumph Daytona 675 and want a more comfortable more streetable bike. My top 2 options are Ducati Streetfighter V2 or Yamaha MT09. What do you guys suggest or should i be looking into a different bike? Should I be considering a Ducati Monster? I haven’t personally ridden any of the bikes yet. I value technology as I never have had a bike with much technology. This would be my daily driver and I would commute on it. My other bike I own is a 2017 KTM 500 Exc-f.

Comfortable 2 up tourer for day-trip and abroad

Looking to be riding more upright again.

Previous bikes are FZ1s, Tracer 900, Multistrada 950 and now VFR 800.

Been test riding different bikes these past weeks: V-strom 800, 1050XT, CFMOTO 800MT EXPLORER, R1200R, R1200GS.

VFR is great but its manueverability going slow is bad, so I want something more nimble and preferrably a bit more low and mid torque as I like to ride active but at the same time use relaxed revs.

The V-stroms were both great and also the CF but Im a bit scared about KTM engine and second hand price.

I also ride far with a pillion and alot of bikes have very little saddle for a passenger. Not really interested in triples or 4 cylinders as i like the grunt of twins.

What bike am I sleeping on?

Suzuki SV-7GX vs Yamaha Tracer 7 2024?

Hi everyone,
I’m about to buy my first motorcycle and would appreciate some advice from you all. At the moment, I’m deciding between the two bikes mentioned in the title, with a budget of around €8,000.
I’ll mainly be using it for city riding, with the occasional day trip.
Thanks in advance for your help!

New Rider First Bike: Dual Sport or Adv.

I’m looking for my first real bike (189 cm, 76kg). Up until this point I only had a pit bike when I was younger and then never rode again.
My idea is to buy a dual sport or a medium weight adventure that allows me to learn how to drive on open/curvy roads, do long trips without to much fatigue, a bit of off-road and has some basic safety features like abs. My budget is around 5k.
What do you suggest?

New Rider First bike for tall rider

Hi guys!

Recently got my drivers license and im looking to purchase my first bike. I’m (1.92cm/ 6’4”) and I’d like to sit comfortable on a bike. I drove a naked bike once but that was totally too small for me. I like a mix between comfortable riding and also sporty looks/feel. I probably will not use the bike for very long travels, probably 1-4 hours driving max when it’s nice weather and occasionally maybe drive to work (1 hour).

Im currently looking at the V Strom 650, the Versys 650 and the Tracer 700. I really like the looks of the tracer but I feel it might be a little small for me. I heard great things about the v strom and the versus aswel. The versys looks more sporty to me but the v strom more comfortable? I havent test driven any yet just wondering what u guys think of these bikes and have any tips or suggestions!

India / South Asia Halfway through saving up for a bike upgrade. need some suggestions (5L)

So as the title suggests, I've almost saved up enough for a new bike and within the first few months of the next year I'm thinking of upgrading to a newer bike. I'm saving up for 5 lakhs and that's pretty much what I'm willing to buy, maybe a little more but it would have to make sense to justify anything higher. I have a few in mind but would love to hear from everyone here.

I currently ride a 2024 Duke 250. I'm 6'3" and 106kgs, maybe 110 with my riding gear. The Duke was a fantastic first bike. Incredible handling and insanely fun. Makes my work commutes and city traffic a little less frustrating. The engine is built for pure performance and power with the electronics to match. But owning it for 2 years made some gaps pretty apparent:

- The frustratingly low torque on anything above 1st gear on low rpms or stops. If the rear wheel is inside a ditch I'll need to switch down to 1st. If the upward slope gets the bike struggling I'll need to switch down to first. To even get the bike swiftly off from stop, I'll always need to start at first gear. I needed something with better low end, even if I (reluctantly) need to trade off on the power.

- The pillion seat is impossible let's be honest. This bike was made for a solo rider and it is literal perfection for that. Riding with a pillion is just straight up torture for them. From the ergonomics to the 2nd floor seat height, it just doesn't make sense (and it shouldn't since it's an afterthought for most owners). Due to that I've almost never had the joy of taking someone behind me on a long trip and I can't even think about taking my aged mother on a day trip somewhere. I need to make that make sense.

- My own seating issues became apparent very soon. I've clocked ~25,000kms on this and for any long rides, the rider seat numbs the bum and I need to take frequent breaks. Gel seats and air seats are to no avail. The seat itself is pretty narrow for someone of my size as well.

Yes I know most of these issues are due to my weight and my size. I've been looking at a few motorcycles over the past and I've thought about a few, and set my budget for that accordingly. I'll start booking test rides next year. Here are some of my choices:

RE Bear 650 - Probably the one I've thought about the most. I think this just might be ideal considering the rear suspension stiffness that everyone brings up will probably be fine for someone of my size and weight.

Honda CB350 series - The more reasonable choice, I could just buy one today. I've ridden my friend's CB350RS and it was sublime. A beautiful engine and an excellent posture for me. The pillion seats on the C series seem to be decent as well but I'll give them a try.

Triumph Speed/Bonneville - Got to try out my friend's Speed 400 (400cc) and it was a blast. I'm not sure about the pillion comfort for this one so trial is all that's left. With the new Bonneville out, that is a viable option now as well

Honda CB500 - This one popped up recently but I'd love to give it a try and if it fits the criteria of the CB350, why not.

Honda Rebel 500 - Pipe dream but fuck it I'm gonna give it a test ride anyway. It's an incredibly low seat with a joke of a pillion seat. But I just want to try it out since I'll be in Honda trying the other ones out as well.

Would love to hear from everyone about their suggestions, and opinions on the ones I've mentioned.

Used commuter suggestions?

I've been doing a lot of reading and a lot of back and forth on hoping to pick up a new bike in 2027. Looking at the fall/winter pricing near me, I no longer think that's particularly practical - dealerships are adding 1500-1800 in fees (freight/destination I was ready for but prep, documentation, etc.) on entry to mid tier bikes. IN THE SLOW SEASON. I was hoping to buy in March, so god only knows what that would look like. NX500 is close to 9000 right now.

So...what's a good used commuter these days? I prefer ADV bikes, I run 30 miles of straight highway at 70-80 miles per hour one way, put about 12k miles on per year.

Big criteria are newer than 2010, between 5k and 10k (more in the 8k range), more than 40-50 horsepower for safety, and gets over 200 miles per tank, because I'm tired of refueling every 1.5 days.

If I get to be really picky, I'd love something that can go a lot of miles without having to be dealership serviced. So long service intervals, or super easy to work on as a home mechanic. Like I know I can't pick up an older Ducati because no way could I do a desmo service but I also don't want to pay for one.

3 bikes I won't consider - NC750X (tank is too small, I've owned several), FJ1300 (does not excite or interest me), and any cruiser or pure sport (ride positions don't agree with my anatomy).

I know that doesn't much narrow it down, but I was hoping to get some general suggestions. A quick tour of the local FB marketplace shows me an absolute treasure trove of BMW GS models in my price and age range, using the good Rotax engine (like the 650), even a couple 1250 GSAs and Africa Twins at 10k that include luggage and aren't roached out. And there are a decent number of middleweight options, Versys 650s and such, with some luggage etc. installed.

So wanted to ask what other people might suggest keeping an eye out for, as far as models go. And if you're suggesting a specific bike, anything it's infamous for needing repair/replace on would be great.

Looking for my next bike

The summer I got my class M, got a 2000 intruder 1500LC from its >4 year stay in a storage unit, and took a roundabout trip from Virginia to Arkansas the ended up being 1300 miles over two weeks. I absolutely loved the bike, had a wonderful trip, but after about a month in Arkansas the intruder is on its last legs and I’m looking to get something similar but more reliable as my next bike. I’m into that mid 2000s Japanese cruiser style, want to know what people have to say about what’s out there.

What first inline 4 sport bike to buy?

Currently have a z500 and want to get into a 4 cylinder. I love the scream of an inline 4 and wouldn’t mind the extra wind protection. What’s a good first sport bike that has the scream of the inline 4. Power on the z is good expect it doesn’t have much punch on the highway.
2 things are important to me the sound and being somewhat comfortable.
5’7 if that helps too.
