This is a repost of my earlier post to where I had a screenshot but I didn’t fully explain what happened, or in my case, it was a low-effort post, so I brought proof
So, as stated, I’ve been playing SF6 for three years, right? Beforehand, my old main character used to be Ryu for a long time since the SFIV days, on the 360.
Fast forward to 2023, when the game came up, I used to pick so many characters, but I was never deep into ranked until about a year later, which was when I decided to sink some hours in. And so, for what felt like an eternity, I was a Bronze-Level player at best, with Ken being the closest choice since he’s similar to Ryu in a way, and I’ve been hardstuck for about a year now with the dude. However, I managed to get to Silver which was my highest rank at one point with Alex and Yasmine when they first came out, through placement matches.
Okay, getting a bit off track here, sorry…long story short, my main account carries that yellow card for a while, to where I could barely get matches, and even if I did, they were against Modern players from overseas, due to the lag on my end. But thankfully I moved so the connection isn’t terrible this time. However, this forced me to pivot to my alt account, to where I switched the button layout, picked Ryu last night and got to work at the lab.
In short, all I managed to do was to pick up on timing, where the opponent tries to go for an air attack, and I’d hit ‘em with a HADOUKEN (though I’m still learning the Shoryuken anti-air, and that alone is tricky considering my inputs), then I’ve began to do more throw escapes frequently, guessing high-low frame mixups, while adding in some High Blade Kick counters without relying too much on accidentally spamming the Shin Shoryukens to finish them off.
And so, after 9 quick yet close placement sets, I came across this Viper player who was at a Gold rank, and we went toe-to-toe, hitting anti-airs, throw escapes, Drive Impacts, you name it. At one point, I slowly figured out her pattern, which is why I’ve been learning on the fly (yes, I’m that kind of player these days) on how to counter some of her stuff. So, after some extra patience, timing and damage, there it was, that Platinum rank badge popping up at my screen, despite losing the set (I believe it was 1-2), and mind you, the rank up was during my first loss against her in the second match, and that player managed to win the set soon after, I was feeling that hyper rush of adrenaline or whatever, even though I tried not to let it get to me, but it did, and I dropped back to Gold-5. Still a nice feat though, since I’ve never made it to Gold either.
And there you go, my entire story of how it all happened.
