tracked 90 reels for a cafe client. the data surprised me

the cafe went from 2.1k to 9.4k followers and weekend mornings are packed now.

3 months, one cafe, 90 reels. i logged every one in a google sheet: hook type, first second, length, saves, shares, follows.

what i found:
- real face in the first second (the barista, a regular): 3.1x the saves of reels that opened on the product
- under 9 seconds: best for reach. 20 to 30 seconds: best for follows
- generated b-roll performed fine as long as it wasnt the opener. we used dreamina for rainy window and steam shots, basically free, but when an ai shot was the first frame, saves dropped by almost half
- captions wiht a question beat captions with a call to action, every month

so our template now: real face, 1 second. product, real. atmosphere, generated if needed. question in the caption.

the cafe grew from 2.1k to 9.4k followers, and the owner says weekend mornings are noticeably busier.

happy to share the tracking sheet columns if anyone wants to run the same thing

Is X Premium worth it purely for outreach / lead generation?

I'm building an AI marketing tool and thinking about getting X Premium ($8/mo on web) mainly for outreach — hoping the checkmark + boosted replies actually get my replies seen by potential users.

For people who subscribed for this reason: did it translate into real conversations, followers, or customers? Or did you just end up paying $8 for a checkmark?

Also curious: is Premium enough, or did you need Premium+ for it to matter?

What do you do when you’re bored of your own content ideas?

How do you get out of a creative rut when everything you come up with feels like something you’ve already done? Do you take a break from looking at other brands or find that seeing more examples helps?

How do you decide which Instagram comments should trigger an automated DM?

I’m building Heyy, a tool that sends an Instagram direct message when someone comments on a post or reel, and I’d like feedback from people managing these workflows. A keyword such as “guide” makes the request explicit, but people can ask for the same link in different words. Triggering on every comment avoids requiring a keyword, but can also message people who weren’t asking for anything.

How do you choose between keyword triggers, broader matching and manual replies for client accounts? As feedback for what I’m building, which mistake would make you turn an automation off first: missing a genuine request or sending an unwanted message?

Examples of ambiguous comments and how you handle them would be especially useful.

Instagram needs an "I'm being paid to look at this" button

Research wedding content for a client and suddenly your feed is helping plan a wedding you aren't having.

"Not interested" isn't quite it. You still need to see the posts. You just don't need Instagram carrying on with the wedding after you've sent the invoice.

Instagram’s "Biggest Update Ever" is officially a pivot back to long-form video (They are coming for YouTube).

If you caught Adam Mosseri's new interview on Colin and Samir (literally titled their "Biggest Update Ever"), the writing is on the wall. Instagram is aggressively pushing back into long-form, TV-style video to compete with YouTube.

If your entire 2026 pipeline is just 7-second trending audio clips, you are probably going to feel this shift.

People are already joking in the comments that "IGTV would be a good name" for this. But unlike the IGTV flop, they aren't forcing users into a separate, disconnected tab. The core algorithm is just going to start rewarding deep-dive, high-retention videos right in the main feed.

But there is a massive friction point. As one top comment pointed out: "Sooooo like YouTube except they don't pay you?".

Creators aren't going to film 10-minute videos without AdSense splits. That means the real winners of this update are going to be brands and B2B service providers. While standard creators hold back because of the lack of platform payouts, businesses can use that uncontested long-form reach to build trust and sell high-ticket offers.

You don't need to abandon short-form completely, but the algorithm is starved for this new format right now. Take your best-performing carousel from last month, script it into a 3-minute deep dive, and post it natively.

Are you guys testing longer YouTube-style assets on Instagram yet, or is the lack of creator monetization keeping you focused on short-form?

I think small businesses focus way too much on social media views

A post getting 20k views sounds great, but does it really matter if none of those people become customers?

Let's say a local bakery posts a funny Reel that gets 20k views. Meanwhile, a simple photo of their daily specials gets 400 views but brings in a few actual customers.

I think small businesses should pay more attention to things like:

-How many people actually message them after seeing a post?

-Are people visiting their website or asking about prices?

-Do customers mention finding them through Instagram or Facebook?

You don't even need fancy analytics to start tracking this. Just asking customers how they found you can tell you quite a bit.

What’s one social media change that brought you real Leads, not just likes?

I keep seeing the same pattern. Businesses posts consistently, get decent reach and still see almost no enquiries.

The few times It's actually changed, it come from small things, like clearer call to action, or replying to comments within the hour, not from posting more.

What’ s one change you made that actually brought in leads or sales?

How do you improve organic social media when you’ve already tried different content angles?

I manage social media for two apps in very different niches, and organic performance has been a struggle for both.

1. Family document management app: It helps people organize important documents and information for their loved ones. I’ve tried educational posts, emotional storytelling, influencer videos, and AI videos featuring the influencer.

For Oct 1–25: 3K organic views vs. 186K paid views, with 213 organic interactions and 184 new followers.

2. Motorcycle riding community app: Around 3,600 followers. Carousels and static posts cross 500 views, but engagement averages 10–12 interactions, mostly from our own team. Reels perform even worse. We’ve also tried influencer marketing but stopped because the results didn’t justify the cost.

I already track competitors and experiment with formats and content angles. I don’t want the usual advice about posting consistently, using trends, or making better hooks.

What can I actually do differently? How do you identify whether the problem is the audience, content, or distribution? Have community building, partnerships, UGC, or other less obvious organic strategies worked for you? And how would you use paid data to improve organic performance?

I want to build a practical strategy to present to both clients, not keep experimenting blindly. Would love to hear from people who’ve handled similar accounts.

I spent 15k on high-production ads for a client and got beat by an unedited iPhone video. Are we overcomplicating social in 2026?

I need to air this out because I am having a bit of a crisis as a strategist and I want to see if anyone else here is hitting the same wall.

Two months ago we onboarded a sized B2C client and went all out: studio rental, videographer, color grading, tight scripts, the whole package. The result was a 0.8% CTR and an embarrassing CPC.

Before our client call I panicked, grabbed my phone filmed the founder answering a basic customer question in their warehouse and threw fifty dollars at it unedited.

That raw zero-budget video ended up outperforming our fifteen thousand dollar production setup by four hundred percent bringing in CAC and tons of genuine comments.

It really showed me how fatigued people are, by polished ads but now I am stuck on the agency side.

How are you all convincing corporate clients to trust raw, handheld content when they firmly believe professional means spending thousands on a studio shoot?

how to charge for sound promos

Hope y’all doing good
I’ve been posting TikTok consistently for a while now and have gained about 1.5k followers. For context my page is about posting quotes with background music (i hope you guys know what i’m talking about) and people have started to reach out on how much i charge for sound promos but i have absolutely no idea how to charge them . If any of you have advice on how to go about it , it’ll be much appreciated.
