The Dumpster Darling

Long story short, old job of mine was run by a rich douche with no care for anything. Guy cleaned out his dad's house and emptied the garage remnants in the huge dumpster at work. One thing included was a rusted, stuck solid 1897 Takedown, from 1912. I took it home, he didnt want it. Got it apart, made sure it was clear (it was). Years later its been sitting in my closet. Decided to play with it. Originally was a 30" full choke barrel, end of the barrel was in rough shape so I cut it to 18.75". Bore is shiny now! Just need to drill/tap for the original bead.

The stock was cut down at some point with a horrible rubber pad job, so I gave it some field medicine with a DIY rubber pad and some medical bandage (i think it looks cool until I can find a new stock for it)

Cleaned it up best as I could for now, tore the whole action apart and cleaned/lubed it. It is butter smooth! Test fired a few rounds of bird shot, shot great. Put a couple rounds of winchester 00 buck through it today at at yards and im quite happy with the spread.

I dig it so far, its been a fun project.

Best Upland 20ga?

Hey all,

Currently using my newborn daughter as an excuse to buy a 20gauge (she’ll eventually need her own, right?)

I’m not a competition shooter but I do run upland frequently behind my dog and my current shotgun - a 12 gauge Benelli Ethos.

I’m leaning 828U simply because I love my Ethos. I happened to get my hands on a Silver Pigeon the other day and it was unbelievably nice and made me think.

What other options should I be looking into?

Just wanted to see what people think about this style stock? Any advantages or disadvantages to having a pistol grip? It Would be used on home defense Maverick 88. I do like the adjustable stock that works for my wife 5'4" and me 6'1".

Any advice is appreciated!

Slug Gun : Mossberg 500 Field/Deer vs Winchester SXP Extreme Deer

Hey guys, just picked up a Mossberg 500 Field/Deer specifically for a slug gun with the rifled barrel. While I was at the store I looked at the Winchester SXP Extreme Deer with the pistol grip. The Mossberg was on sale for $650 from $750 and (I did not know this until after already purchasing the Mossberg) that the SXPwas on sale for $680 from $815. The 500 comes with a field barrel but I will not be switching barrels out as I have other guns for water fowl and turkey. Just looking for some input. Did I make the right choice? Should I return the Mossberg for the SXP? Bought on a whim with little research. Thanks for your help!

I already have a Maverick 88 but I want a super cheap pump action/semi auto shotgun

Any pump/semi guns that are so cheap I won't mind if they break or they're cheaper than a Maverick 88 but still a solid gun?

I've seen H&R Pardner Pumps for around $200 on Gunbroker

Likely Unpopular Opinion: A lot of Barrel Chopping Won’t Age Well

I’m really bummed to see so many of these classic shotgun barrels getting chopped down. I don’t care about folks doing it to modern production guns (eg: Mossberg 500s) but seeing it happen to so many classics, particularly the Auto-5s, sucks.

To be clear: I 100% support the rule change, but I think a lot of people are high on the “fun-new-thing”, fueled by social media, and are destroying a bunch of guns we’ll never get back.

I think in 40-50 years, people are gonna look at these chopped shotguns the same way we look at all of the sporterized 1903s, Mauser 98s, and Krags, and wishing we had more of them in their original configurations.

Ultimately: folks can of course do what they want with their property, but I think a lot of people are sacrificing potential heirlooms to chase a fad.

I’ve got an older super black eagle that is a work horse. I’d like to attach a sling so it’s a little easier to carry it into the marsh.

I’m the market for a sxs

I was hoping to get some help in my search for an older sxs preferably straight stock 20g with a double trigger. Something classic that can still handle modern shells. Any suggestions? I don’t really want to pay more than around $2500. There are so many older gun manufacturers out there and I’m a bit overwhelmed. Thanks!

Advice/Experience needed.

Welp. The Frankenstein 870 hit a roadblock. The Warnes vent rib mount will not hold up to repeated abuse with 3" magnum buck. It tried to walk off during a range trip yesterday and I don't want to burn the loctite off the screws and try again.

Does anyone have any experience with the Aridus industries CROM? (aimpoint T1 footprint)

Thanks in Advance.

What keeps this forend attached to the barrel? Good fit, it’s definitely the one that goes with the gun. Nothing looks broken but I can’t figure out how to latch the forend to the barrel.

Cottontail season is well underway in upstate New York so I broke out the 40’s era Stevens double barrel and vintage camo jacket for a rabbit hunt. it was a little windy out so I didn’t see any rabbits but it was still nice to get out for a walk on this beautiful afternoon.

Anyone w Panzer Jaeger OverUnder for range fun?

Thumbnail

I am in a market for short(18.5"-20") OverUnder for plinking fun. I am cross shopping with Mossberg HS12 and Stoeger Double Defense, which are both Turkish shotguns also.

If someone has this Panzer or anyone of the 2 above, I'd appreciate your opinion on it. Thank you.

Background - I already have Italian cousins and american pumps in my safe, and I am not cross shopping with any of those tactical/HD shotguns. This is Strictly for fun day at the range, so more about reliability with 2-3/4 shells, and 9mm adapters. Thanks in advance.

Beretta 1301

Post image

My Beretta 1301 shotgun, I bought it stock as a Gen "1.5" and not much left on it is original. I have had it about 3~ years now and the gun has about 4,000 rounds through it. Everything from low brass birdshot to 1600fps slugs and the 1301 just keeps working. It's been an incredible gun for me. Hopefully my CAT CT is made for it soon, I am very excited to see how this gun functions and sounds with a suppressor.
