Help
Hello, I have had an issue with a short cervix for 2 months. I am 5 and a half months today. I went yesterday for a check and my length went from 1.46 to 2.1. When they first discovered it, I was 1.46 and .5-1 cm dilated. With it improving, they took a cerclage off the table and gave me progrestrone. Well, now, they are wanting me to have the procedure done. I was told there is a high risk of it killing my son and it will only last 4-8 weeks. I have no idea what to do but I am scared.
Advice please.

I can’t really give you advice but I was in a similar situation. At 24 weeks it was discovered I was about 1cm dilated. I was given the option of a cerclage and told it would buy on average 9 weeks but came with the risks.
I had a really frank discussion with my surgeon where I asked what she would do and she strongly suggested the cerclage. I got it, and just gave birth at 39 weeks.
It was scary and awful and I’m sorry you’re going through it!! Talk to your medical staff and ask all the questions you have and maybe that will help you make a decision. Hope everything goes well 🤍

I had an emergency cerclage done in the UK, and I was also told the same that the procedure could rupture membranes and that baby would not survive (at the time I was 20w and in my case, my cervix was open and membrane sac bulging out).
I was told either try surgery or try nothing but both present risk of losing baby.
I went with surgery, and was similarly told that I may only last a few weeks before delivery. I have passed more than 10 weeks with my stitch, progesterone and modified bed rest together.
Wishing you the best of luck

Hi, i was 4cm dilated with bulging membranes at 20W3D and was told the same thing. But for me I couldn’t just sit and do nothing. I had already lost 2 babies last at 16 weeks. So I went with the risk and ended up giving birth at 31w3d which was amazing docs said with how dilated I was with the bulging membranes. My baby was in the NICU till 36 weeks and is home now with me right now, she is 7 weeks (-2 weeks corrected) and doing so so well. So thankful I took the chance. Sending you the best of luck ☘️💕
