Discussion I don’t get how they lost Eren when he started rumbling

• Upvotes

When Zeke caught Eren’s head and he turned into this uber giant titan thing, afterwards when shit goes down, everyone is like “we don’t know where Eren is”. Excuse me? How can you just not see the giant thing that appeared out of thin air when his head went flying?

Discussion What If Grisha had been there during the fall of Shiganshina?

Lets say Grisha was inside Shiganshina when the Colossal Titan breached the wall. What would've happened? Would he have fought Reiner and the titans off, or take Eren and the rest of the fam and dip?

Discussion Erwin was the best commander in all of survey corps so far. Hange was the worst

Post image
0 Upvotes

Hange was the worst commander of all time and I ain’t changing my mind. Erwin achieved a lot of things while being a commander than Hange or other commanders did.
- He managed to convince Levi (who wanted to kill Erwin) to join the survey corps and made Levi follow him as his leader.
- He also managed to pull off successfully overthrow the fake king and put a new queen without causing too much outrage.
- due to Hange mistake of losing to Reiner and Bertholdt in wall rose, Erwin had to fix the mistake and capture Eren by using horde of titans which no one would do.
- he knew that people were outside the walls before the basement but he just lacked the proof.
- Erwin also came up the plan to defeat beast titan in the battle where everyone thought that they would lose. The plan was successful and zeke had retreat with Reiner. Bertholdt died and paradis gained colossal titan.
-Gives the best speeches, he can turn a coward into a lion. He can convince people to die for him.

I also don’t remember anything that Hange achieved in all those years after Erwin died. I mean she couldn’t even convince Eren or handle the yeagerists.

Glazing Erwin is the reason, the heart still beats.

Discussion Hot take: Season 4 should not have tried to look like the manga.

(Before I start id like to say I loved all of season 4 and love mappa)

Imagine you just finished season 3 of breaking bad, and upon starting season 4 you realise; Everyone is played by a diffierent actor, the colour grading of the show is grey and washed out, the Camera used is clearly diffirent, and every building in ABQ looks different.

Surely the visual whiplash would be huge, Surely it would break your Immersion just a little, And that is exactly my problem with Mappas adaptation, it DOES NOT RESPECT WIT.

This might piss off the fans of the manga, but I have to say it; The consistancy of the Anime is A LOT more important than manga accurecy (visually)

My first and least excusable problem is the characters. The character designs (even if aged) should have stayed the same. We spent 59 episodes with these characters, seeing everyone look different AND aged was a heck of a visual whiplash. And the fact that aot changed studios does not excuse it. There are plenty of anime that changed studios that retained the character design consistancy some examples are KonoSuba, Vinland Saga Uma Usuma. Just retaining the orignal character designs

would make season 4 feel so much more cohesive.

Then theres Colour grading and composition, I liked season 4s overall style but it was nothing like the past seasons, everything was a lot more grounded and washed out, which while fitting for the tone was nothing like WIT.

There was a guy on youtube who used some software to simulate how season 4 would look with just WITS colour pallet, which perfectly shows what Im talking about:

https://youtu.be/sY0WnGZMREU?si=IbOako2qyQjXHcpA

Besides the big changes i wish mappa tried to stay more consistant with other smaller details, such as titan Transformation sounds, and visuals, Thunder spear flame colour (was very weird for season 4 to start with them have orange flames, then bluray randomly turning them Bright green for no apparent reason)

The titans I have the least issue with besides wishing for their designs to be closer to past seasons

But at the end of the day Im glad mappa finished aot🥹🙏

Discussion EREN JAEGER ANALYSIS

As a lore watcher and someone who absolutely adores analyzing characters, I seem to be stuck. First of all, I absolutely love analyzing characters, my analysises aren't very long, usually around 400 - 800 words, so I seriously hit a gold mine when I started watching AOT the first time, I had a great time analyzing Mikasa, Ymir and Historia, Reiner, Bluetooth and a couple more.

But the problem is Eren, I understand him, but at the same time I don't? I even watched AOT again just to try to make a final analysis for him, and I did! But only a couple weeks later I found flaws and holes in my writing, so after a very, very long time ( a couple months) and after a lot of diving in Reddit and other sources for help, I decided to ask directly since I can't seem to get a good answer... What is your Eren Jaeger analysis?

Theres 2 more things I wanna add to this post, first of all I think it's best that I clarify what I'm having difficulty with IN VERY SHORT TERMS. Im hella confused about how Eren saw freedom, was the scenery in armins picture book like the embodiment of freedom? Also I researched about negative and positive freedom, and I understand that what Eren searched for was negative freedom and considered that to be freedom itself, while completely casting aside positive freedom. And since you aren't free without both of them, Eren wasn't free and it's what led to his downfall. Hmm but I also am not sure, maybe I'm overcomplicating this and Eren did search for both positive and negative freedom and it was his obsession that made him not free???? I don't know guys, I've been at this for weeks and I'm just really confused, and I can't seem to relax till I understand it.

The second thing is that, maybe the reason Eren is hard for me to analyze is that, me as a person have always had freedom as a goal aswell, I study hard so I can achieve the most freedom in my life. So maybe seeing him fail so badly is hard for me to get ( I Hope I don't sound cringe rn)

So, I would really appreciate any sort of analysis and explanations!

IMO it’s hange. I feel like she was the most understanding and open minded of the team. She was also the most selfless.

Anime I was wondering what’s so off about ss4 Annie; they straightened her nose!

In the early seasons her big nose had a distinct curve to it, it was so endearing to me. I knew something was different besides her hair being down, I just couldn’t put my finger on it. Now I’m rewatching and just realised; her nose isn’t hooked anymore.

Discussion Eren would develop something worse than Reiner. Spoiler

Post image
15 Upvotes

When Eren tells Reiner in the Liberio basement: 'I'm just like you,' it's about what they feel when doing things. After what he did, Reiner developed depression, suicidal guilt, and a general desire to die. If Eren had survived the Rumbling, he would have developed the same thing, but multiplied by 1000. So dying at Mikasa's hands was a kind of mercy.

Discussion Eren's ears are Metaphorical horns?

Post image
111 Upvotes

Anybody else feels this way? Since Eren's whole stick is an obsession with a free world (same way as satan wanted freedom from God's world order/authority). Plus eren literally becoming "The devil of all earth" towards the end of the series. I feel like if his ears are meant to represent "devil horns."

Manga I finished reading manga for the first time Spoiler

And I must say, what a journey! I was thinking about which language to rewatch the anime in for the third time, but decided to read the manga instead. And, in my opinion, it was 100% the right decision for me. It gave me an absolutely different experience.

First of all, I gained a better understanding of the world and the nature of relationships between certain characters. I noticed more details that helped me see some of the characters (Hange, Annie, Frieda, Zeke, Levi) in a new light. I discovered details/scenes that just weren't in the anime. There were also things I simply hadn’t noticed while watching the anime, but in the manga — thanks to the way the panels are laid out — they really caught my eye.

I have to admit that I don't like the ending and didn't like it before. But I found it easier to take in the events after the timeskip in the manga; for me personally, the plot progression felt smoother. I really liked the way Grisha’s memories of obtaining the Attack Titan were interspersed with the present-day events for Eren.

Character design, the depiction of emotional states/reactions, and shot composition (especially after the timeskip) are something! I much prefer how the characters look in the manga around the time of the fourth season compared to the anime (except Reiner, I guess).

And I finally picked up on Floch's character development.

Anime Did they remove the cutaway screens where they would display random information?

I'm watching the netflix version of the anime and I've wondered why the cuts between scenes feel so jarring and I've realised its because I was used to seeing them inbetween scenes. Is it just like this for the anime on netflix? Why would they remove it?

Discussion Do Titans have a mental attack ability?

I've noticed that these hardened veterans who live knowing that they will die young, surrounded by death constantly, will charge into certain death, etc, also suffer from a physiological collapse when they're out of options. Sometimes it seems as if they are suffering from nightmares, deeply-buried trauma dredged up from their deep subconscious etc.

It just seems really strange to me. These people SHOULDN'T be falling apart like they do. It makes me think that Titans have a psychological attack field, like a gas they emit or something that attacks the mind.

Discussion Isn't it a bit implausible that Eren's gear would fit on Reiner here? Spoiler

Post image
0 Upvotes

It's said that Reiner took off Eren's ODM gear after biting him out of his Titan, and that's what he's wearing in this scene, but isn't that a little implausible considering the disparity in their bodies? Reiner's fucking massive compared to Eren, especially before the timeskip.

Discussion Why did Eren wear his armband on the wrong arm? A small theory about mirrors Spoiler

When Eren first shows up in Liberio disguised as a wounded soldier, his Eldian armband is on his right arm. Falco notices and moves it to the left (S4E2, “Midnight Train”). Manga readers used this detail to spot him before the reveal.

S4E2 “Midnight Train”: Falco to Eren — “Your armband’s on the wrong arm.”

The usual explanation is simple: he’s not from Marley, so he doesn’t know the rule. Fair. But that explanation runs into a problem: Eren has seen Grisha’s entire childhood in Liberio. First-person, years of it, armband on the left arm every day. He should know exactly where it goes.

So here’s my theory: he didn’t dress by copying Grisha. He dressed by copying himself.

Eren had already seen glimpses of his own future. Nobody sees their own full appearance in first person. And we know inherited memories can include mirror views. Eren literally receives one: Frieda looking at her own reflection. The only way you see what you look like is in a reflection. And if you look at a mirror and read the image as “a person facing me,” the armband that’s on your left arm appears on their right.

Mirrors aren’t random in this series. Eren, Frieda and Gabi all get moments of facing themselves in a reflection. The story keeps using mirrors to show characters who can see the world but not themselves.

Eren gets a flash of an inherited memory: Frieda looking at herself in a mirror. He mistakes her for Historia at first.

The darker reading: maybe it wasn’t a mistake at all. Eren has seen how things play out. Wearing it wrong is what makes Falco walk over. That one small act of kindness leads to the letters, the meeting with Reiner, and Liberio.

Which makes the scene almost unbearable on rewatch. Falco can see that a stranger’s armband is wrong. He can’t see who the stranger is. The kid who fixes other people’s blind spots is the one being used.

Curious if anyone has noticed a specific mirror scene with Eren wearing the armband, because that would basically confirm it.

S4E10: Hange to Eren — “Are you talking to yourself in the mirror?”

I first posted this theory in Chinese on Threads back in February 2026: original post. This is an expanded English version.

Eren might not be stuck in a loop but I am.

They were so little. In the manga they all look younger and more fragile? in every arc compared to the anime, especially here.

Discussion The actions of this character were not as good as I first thought

Was trying to make sense of the 740s timeline, and realised something kind of fucked up. When King Fritz swoops up a bunch of Subjects of Ymir and retreats to the walls, he makes up the lie that titans appeared and killed all of humanity but them. This means that there had to have been pure titans outside of the walls at that point. Where would these pure titans come from? The eldian empire used titans as weapons of war, but it's not like they were just strolling around on Eldian terrority. This means that Fritz had to have taken a few civilians from his empire and decided they should be turned into pure titans to keep up his illusion of peace. Either that or he let Marley choose a bunch of Subjects of Ymir to punish.

I hadn't really thought very hard about the actions of Karl, apart from that they seemed fairly good and reasonable. He ended a tyrannical empire after all. But when you actually think about it, he must have started the Marleyan punishment system of sending people to Paradis, otherwise he wouldn't need an explanation for the pure titans outside of the walls. Did he give a bunch of titan serum to Marley too? He made a time of 'peace' but really he created hell for his people, especially when you consider the Subjects of Ymir living elsewhere in the world. Everyone hates King Fritz, but let's give some hate to this Fritz too.

Not only this, but he discriminated against some of their closest allies. The Asians and the Ackermanns do not agree to stay quiet about the truth of the world, and in turn, the royal family and the government hunt them down, condemning them to lives hiding away in fear. The Ackermanns were litreally made to protect the royal family, and Hizuru are allies with them, and he lets them suffer because he wants to keep his illusion and run away from the world.

You could argue that he did the best he could, as he felt he was only delaying the inevitable retribution against the citizens of the Eldian empire, but he really made a prison for his subjects. I mean really, mindwiping his subjects and keeping them in 3 walls to be predated by the pure titans is very specific. He put his people in a saw trap for 100 years and thought it was the best solution. With mindwiping his citizens, there's also a discussion to be had as whether this would have removed their old identities and essentially killed the person they were before. Also, if memories are what makes a person, was he just tormenting people who would have had no hand in the actions of the Eldian empire?

This might be kind of 'duh' to everyone else, but I really hadn't thought about it in much depth.
