Me and a friend recently went on a roadtrip through Japan to visit a bunch of the places that inspired sekiro. I also made a travel vid out of it (on Youtube at Midnight Kotatsu) but here are some of the comparisons if you're interested!

Post image
46 Upvotes

I just started playing sekiro after completing and getting platinum on elden ring, dsr, ds2 sotfs and khazan.

And I just found out it has 4 endings achievements, tips would be appreciated on how I should approach this, do ng then ng+ for 2 endings then repeat for the other 2, or go up to ng+3 for 4 different endings?

Also wanted to know the upscale of difficulty per ng.

Edit: aight ty for the tips and info, imma try scum saving (never done this), if it doesn't work imma play till ng+3.

Help Shamelessly farmed some skill points, what should I spend my money on?

Post image

So I’m getting my ass beat by Genichiro and saw I didnt have the shinobi eyes skill. Farmed some skills points and collected a load of case.

I know I’m going to die a lot so what should I spend my cash on before it gets wasted?

I’ve never really had a feel for what I should spend my money on. What items will benefit me going forward?

Help Help: I can’t seem to time this lightning jump

Post image

I’ve pretty much sussed his attack patterns for the first two phases. Get his posture up whilst taking little to no damage.

It’s this part that keeps getting me. Everything I try and time the lightening jump I get caught.

I can’t even see what the fuck is going.

So when do o actually jump, because it seems I get shocked in the air as well. I was so close to beating him my last try and then I panicked and fucked up

There is a lot of parrying, parrying flurries, and different types of parries. It's clearly inspired by Sekiro, Dark Souls, Thymesia, and Bloodborne. At the price, it's hard to beat. I'm only a couple hours in but it has me hooked so far.

Discussion I Think I'm Finally Starting to Get the Hang of the Gameplay

Somehow on my first playthrough I blundered my way to the Guardian Ape boss but heavily struggled the whole way there. Now I'm actually taking time to engage with the game's mechanics. I'm a lot more patient and swinging less wildly. I'm reading the enemy's weapons, not the enemy themselves. I ended up two attempting the miniboss right before Genichiro, a mini boss that took me multiple attempts to beat before, simply because I was a lot more patient and waited to see the shine of the weapon to deflect.

They say that good swordplay is like a dance - I'm starting to see why.

ETA: I beat Genichiro first try!! On my first playthrough it took me a month! God that feels so satisfying

Help I tried to backup save but failed and need some help

I was trying to backup save for the endings but seemed to have did something wrong.

I have a backup save from 8:22 pm. It’s a save file from before you talk to Wolf but it wont take me to that file. I copy and pasted it and deleted the old files after doing the shura ending and nothing happened. It didn’t take me to the old files after doing save. Not sure what to do

Discussion Just beat him, this ending is heartbreaking. Read body, if anyone is struggling against him.

The fight is beautiful, but betraying my boy Kuro hurts so much.

I've already beaten this game with the longer ending, with the Dragons Return ending. I finished that playthrough in about 45 hours. For the next 30 hours I just fought all the bosses in the reflection (except the Headless Ape because I hate the gank.) I only really decided to start the second playthrough and specifically do the Shura ending because I wanted the Shura gauntlet unlocked.

I've beaten Inner and normal Sword Saint and Genichiro, both Owls a lot of times. Even corrupted monk. So this playthrough actually lasted just 10 hours. Yeah. With 2 true deaths - The bitchass Ashina Elite and fall damage. Do not mean to flex by any means, seriously, but I somehow beat Emma and Isshin first try. I was genuinely NOT expecting it, with people saying he's harder than Sword Saint. He isn't. Mind you, I have not mastered Old Isshin by any means, especially compared to Sword Saint. I had seen a lot of videos before I got the game, so I had seen all attacks Emma and Isshin could do.

Emma took away 6 gourds and a resurrect. Because of practicing SSI so many times, phase 1 of Isshin was a breeze. Only got a bit wrecked by his grab, and his sickass dodge-attack thing. Ended phase 1 with 4 gourds.

Phase 2 I pulled out my Pheonix Umbrella. Knew about the bad tracking of his fire attacks so I just circled around him whenever he got in position.

I thought the fire flaring up when he was gonna do the One Mind was a purely visual effect. I was wrong. It one shot me. But I still had another resurrect so no problem. But yeah whenever he tried to One Mind, I would pull out my umbrella and madly started spinning it when he got close, and it just worked.

Survived with 1 resurrect, 0 gourds and 4 spirit emblems. Wow.

Tips / Hints The Guardian Ape was fun to fight against

The first few times nothing seemed to work, not even the cheese videos I saw on yt. I didn't even have the spear prosthetic. Tried all the prosthetics I had until one combination worked well, (killed it in the first try).

All I used was oil, flamethrower and regular strikes for the first phase. Oil+fire stunned the ape which gave me the window to slash 4 times and I repeated this until the emblems ran out. The ape was left with around 35% HP for which I had to deflect and dodge to kill it.

For the second phase, I used the pacifying agent and the mortal blade as a replacement for the spear prosthetic. This phase is all about deflection. You deflect the heavy sword attack and get 2 hits with the mortal blade on the ape's neck. I just repeated this until it died.

Discussion Random thoughts about things I wouldn't mind seeing in a hypothetical Sekiro 2 or 3

- Deflection with finesse. Basically, an upgrade in which inputting in a direction as you deflect would allow you to move in the same instant. This could be used to slip to an enemy's side, to create distance, or to maintain your footing by tilting forward, but increasing posture damage to both yourself and the enemy. Each movement would have their own followup attack.

- Freeing up the grappling hook. Sort of like Wylder's in Nightreign, but without cooldown. Instead of fixed grapple points, grappling would have you latch onto whatever was directly ahead of you within a certain distance, allowing you to zip forward—or even up walls. (I kind of picture something like the rocket jump in Gravity Rush 2.... if anyone's ever played that. Except with a grappling hook. Man that game was fun.) While locked on to an enemy, the hook would allow you to close distance, though it wouldn't stagger them by much, so they could just swat you out of the air, lol.

- More instances of immortal enemies. Something that always bugged me a bit (heh) was that the Mortal Blade's immortal severance was functionally pretty uselees outside of boss battles. Sure, there were the infested monks, but there wasn't much point in fighting them anyway, and they'd still respawn after resting at an idol. So that got me thinking, what if certain areas had entire groups of immortal enemies? Sure, you could temporarily kill them and net a few skill points/etc., but being a stealth game, you'd face more constant pressure as the steady stream of more capable enemies kept resurrecting. Which leads me to...

- More risk using the Mortal Blade. As it stands, it's kind of just another combat skill. Which is fine, but given the whole "whoever draws it dies" thing, I feel like it'd be interesting if using it against immortals after a deathblow would cost one resurrective node—and would completely prevent that enemy from ever respawning, even after resting. This would make revisiting the area safer... but would also remove that enemy from being farmed for sen or skill points.

- And, more simply, recouping spirit emblems through perfect deflection. Not really a novel idea, but it'd be nice, lol.

Anyway, what other highly specific ideas have you guys been hallucinating during the long wait?

After 2 hours of fighting this fucking guy. Beating both phases, thinking I’m the fucking man. He turns into this lightening fucker.

I literally have fraction of health left and lightenings getting blasted all over the place.

I rage quit and now I’m going to bed.

Great game though 😏

Tips / Hints Finally🫩

Honestly this was a little tuff for me, you really just gotta keep fighting it and find your way of defeating him, I feel like there’s multiple ways to defeat him, for isshins first phase all I really did was attack 2 times, dodge attack two times and repeat for his other phases I played same but little more aggressively. Took me hours to beat this boss. Great boss 10/10

I unlocked them all in when the gaunlets dropped but alls I want is the Tengu outfit & I just can’t find my flow, I got the platinum again at the beginning of the year as my old save file got corrupted. I’ll sometimes make it to Inner Isshin then I’ll not get past Owl. If anyone would like to screen share & have a go be my guest because I’ve hit a wall & I’ll be forever in your debt.
