First Gen Body/Cosmetic Has anyone added a splitter below the lip?

Post image
15 Upvotes

don’t get me wrong, i love the rs4.0 lip but it leaves something to be desired in the middle especially when I see tc’s look so good with the full lip that goes around. I’m wondering about adding a splitter below it to make more filled and give it that kind of “chin” look.

what do u guys think? should i attempt to just custom make a splitter and make it as close to the shape of the lip as possible but just extend it forward?

(im in the process of wrapping the car so thats why its mistached)

Buy/Sell Planning on getting a tC this week!! What is everything I need to know about them?

Hey yall!! Super exciting update. I was able to trade in my 4Runner. I got them to $24,500 up from $18,000. I get to pocket $2,000 and have a “giftcard” for $400 towards winter tires for my future tC.

I think the tC is what I’ve always been looking for. I’ve just wanted a very reliable car that looks great and is a little zippy. I’ve owned quite a few SUVs and trucks and grown to hate them because of how horrifically they drive, the cost of maintenance, and the rather terrible gas mileage and insurance.

Man, tCs are so cool. You’re telling me I can get a dead reliable coupe/hatchback made by Toyota with paddle shifters, auto rev match, great gas mileage, good aftermarket, easy to work on, great speakers and infotainment, TRD exhaust, body kit, and springs, and cheap insurance as a 19 year old? Fuckin great little cars I’ll tell you what.

I’m looking for ideally a 2015-2016 tC base or RS. I found an extremely clean 2015 RS with 80k miles and really good service history. My biggest issue is how the magma orange fades differently on the metal VS the plastic making it appear discolored.

I’ve found several really decent tCs. I’m going to have to get one shipped to my house as there’s only one tC for sale in CO and it’s white, which I will be avoiding as Toyotas white paint is god awful.

What do I need to know about these guys? I’ve already done a significant amount of research but it never seems to be enough, I’d like first hand opinions from owners.

What do you like? What do you love? What bothers you? What do you hate about it?

Is the RS worth it over a base? Or would a base suffice?

Second Gen Body/Cosmetic Life support or transplant?

Bought a 2012 scion TC for too much. Yeah it’s a prior salvage and I highkey got screwed, I still love it tho. It’s got 171000 miles and it is only driven roughly 30 miles a day, five days a week. Working on getting all basic maintenance done. Once completed I’m gonna replace rear bumper. (Rusted out)
Do I work towards making look normal? Or do I just keep it around as a beater?

My car is a 2005 Scion Tc she’s burgundy with black interior. Is she stock? I’m pretty sure. But $1500 under 200k miles is a pretty good deal. I’m getting her fixed up and stickered real soon and I’m here asking for album recommendations. As a way to celebrate the miles stone that is buying a first car I need some fuckin music to play. I buy my music bc fuck it no subscription equals no WiFi needed and no reupping on service. I can play my music whenever I want. Anyways dear fellow Scion owners I want you drop your favorite albums. Imma buy a whole 10 albums. Maybe tack on a few singles if I like em enough.

Second Gen Interior/Radio Scion tC 10 series - badge with an individual number

This update concerns an illegible individual serial number on my Scion tC "10 Series." I made a significant effort to recover this unique identifier. I reached out to the previous owner but received no response. The Polish branch of Toyota also had no information on the matter in their system. After inquiring within various Facebook groups, I learned that—based on the date of sale—my specific vehicle likely falls within the 1–400 range (see photo #3). As a last resort, I contacted Toyota’s American division, where I discovered that these individual numbers were never linked to the VIN. It appears that if the original serial number plate is damaged or lost, it is gone forever. I scoured eBay—where parts for this rare edition occasionally surface—knowing the odds were slim, but it was worth a try. After contacting several sellers, I either received no reply or learned that, while they might have a door panel available, the serial number plate was no longer attached. Eventually, luck was on my side: I came across a "10 Series" Scion that was being parted out. After negotiating the purchase and arranging transport through a shipping company, I managed to secure the plate—my Scion will now be identified as unit number 332 out of the 3,500 produced.

Second Gen Drivetrain Scion tC 2011-2016 3D Printed intake

I made a post about a month ago about a 3D printed intake. I've finished the model to a point where I'm happy to release it, the files are on my website EwenBuilds.xyz under the build guides section.

I'm still cleaning up the technical write up for it, but the build guide includeing a youtube video is out.

Just some quick numbers for everyone from a VERY short drive test ( 15 min ):

  • Max air temperature decreased from 51°C to 26°C (25 degrees cooler)
  • An average temperature drop of 4 degrees
  • Fuel efficiency up by around 15%
  • Better throttle response
  • Mass air flow equal to stock (integrates good with the engine)

Overall I'm super happy with how it turned out. if any one builds one id love to see it.

Second Gen Drivetrain When changing a drivers side axle, about how much transmission fluid can leak out?

I recently got my engine replaced and after test driving it my transmission burned out. There were 3 seperate time during installation that transmission fluid leaked out and he didn’t check the fluids at all before starting my car up for the first time. My transmission gave out and he immediately said he just needed to top it off with fluid. He told me he needed 4 quarts minimum and needed up added the whole 4 quarts. He’s trying to say I damaged the transmission when I damaged the engine. But he apparently test drove it for a few miles before I got there to test drive it and it was working flawlessly. I drove it about 6 houses down and did a U-turn and my transmission immediately gave out and I slowly rolled back to his house on the momentum. After that was the only time he said he needed fluid and said he needed at least 4 quarts and also said I needed to replace the drivers side axle. I accused him of messing up my transmission by not filling it up with fluid and test driving it for so long and having me drive it as well and said it must’ve messed it up if we were running a whole gallon low. Keep in mind, when it leaked out multiple times before, the fluid looked good and free of any contaminants whatsoever. He tried to tell me he only needed a quart of fluid to top off my transmission and used the rest of the gallon when he replaced the axle. So was my transmission damn near a gallon low on fluid when he was driving it around or would it be possible to have a loss of almost 3 quarts when changing an axle. I’m contemplating taking him to small claims court. He also broke my windshield dropping the engine back into my car.

Buy/Sell Is a Scion tC really worth it? My coworkers and friends all think it’s a terrible idea.

Hey yall! I’m desperately looking for a car after my 4Runners transmission blew up at 54k miles (yes really.)

I’ve really wanted a Scion tC for a while now. I brought it up to my coworkers (I work at an auto shop, we all know a ton about cars.) and they all told me it was a bad idea. They called it everything from ugly, a girls car, a waste of money, slow, no aftermarket, bad handling, etc etc etc. One guy thought they were European, so clearly they don’t know a ton about Scion. They all highly recommend I go with a V6 Camry, a WRX, or a Civic SI.

they drive a Prelude, an RSX, a SRT Caliber, a Grand Cherokee, a CX5, a Civic SI, a C30, a CRV, and a WRX.

I found a 2015 RS. One owner, 8/10 maintenance records, no accidents, 80k miles for $13.5k. I really think it’s a good idea.

My needs for a car are

- fun and engaging to drive.
- under 15k.
- quick, not fast.
- good on gas.
- easy on insurance, I’m 19.
- decent aftermarket.
- reliable.
- okay in the snow, I live in CO.
- automatic with paddle shifters
- practical.
- Easy to work on.
- sporty styling.
- Unique.
- Good speakers.

Is this really a good idea? I’ve had absolutely terrible luck with Toyota thus far, I’ve had now 3 transmissions go out. I’m retiring from trucks and moving onto an actual fun to drive street car.

Also, what are common issues with these things? Like everything, I would really like to know what to look out for ahead of time so I can plan on when to be in my garage fixing it.

Thanks yall!

First Gen Drivetrain Scion tc help manual trans

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

07 scion tc 5 speed manual. Alright so basically I bought this at 181k miles from a dealership WORKER not the dealership. He was a mechanic in the back and I suppose this was a flip for him. Well I'm sure it flipped pretty great because he rebuilt the engine using the cheapest parts of all time. The piston rings went after about 6k miles, and the cylinder walls ended up gouged. I bought a 47k mile jdm replacement engine at 190k miles. It lasted maybe 200 miles before my 5th gear decided to pop out on the highway. Opened did a fluid change hoping it would help since it was also whining, and the video shows what came out. Not that bad of course but im concerned. My first thought was fluid change see if it helps then fix 5th gear since it's easy enough to access. Well all the fluid is back in the ground now and it's been about 2 days. Im hoping it's just the drain plug washer since I reused it, whatever, there's $200 some dollars out of my pocket. By the way the engine ended up costing around 4k and I'm NOT made of money. Anyway I think I need a new transmission at this point and my best option is a junkyard in witchita Kansas that has a 97k mile one for 825. I didn't replace my engine myself but I'm out of money so looks like I'm doing the transmission myself. I like mechanic work so it's not a big deal. Anyway, any advice? Anybody have a trans they'd be willing to donate or sell? Looking for anything at all. Also, the pan may have had stuff in it I didn't clean it super well and it sits in the trunk of a stripped out project car.
