US Midterm Elections Megathread

Hello! We haven't done this before but let's try it and see how it goes! Election day is a week away (Tuesday, November 3rd) so now is a great time to make time to review the 14 statewide propositions, bunch of elected offices and local measures on your ballot.

You can use this thread to discuss who and how to vote if you would like but we'll be monitoring it for civility in discussions just to keep things productive and from spiraling. We'll keep an eye out for other threads popping up and redirect them here.

Let's see how this goes!

A helpful post about voter guides came up a bit ago:

If you need help finding a place to return them, check your county's drop box locations:

1 year ago I posted here asking for band members. 1 year later, we are performing our first paid gig

Hi there, I am the OP from this post: https://www.reddit.com/r/Sacramento/comments/1nenwm9/looking_to_start_a_pop_punk_band_and_needing/

I ended up finding 2 guitarists and a bassist all from this reddit post! They were all actually really nice despite being total strangers! I filled out our drummer with a mutual friend of mine but I am lucky enough to consider all of these guys good friends now. We ended up forming our band, New Sincerity, and went right away to practicing covers (mainly pop punk/pop rock).

Despite busy adult lives we have managed to consistently meet up and have about ~11 or so songs under our belt, with 2 being originals and some more originals already in the process of being made.

I am posting this because a few people were rooting for us in the comments of the original post and I am really happy to have this band not only made but kept for so long.

We will be performing in Loomis at High Hand Brewery on December 2nd from 5-9 PM. (two 5 song sets with a break in between).

https://maps.app.goo.gl/EGAiBnHuEgVgZ94X8?g_st=ic

We have even gone as far as to record at a studio with the help of some audio engineering major college students, so a demo for our originals is not too far off from release.

The future looks really bright for this band as long as we continue to be motivated and improve our skills.

Thank you for reading.

Edit: We also just made our first post on Instagram, feel free to drop a follow! https://www.instagram.com/reel/DfBOo8mpJT6/?mdxt=MWNpZXV6bmtzbnlveg%3D%3D

Thank you so much for all the support in the comments!!

Local thrift store treasure

Found this shirt thrifting at Snowline Hospice in Placerville. Pretty sure this is Saint Hulk Hogan, Kid Rock, and Tucker Carlson praying over sometime (?) Sacramento resident Gavin Newsom.

Yes, the shirt is still there! Go get it, and wear it somewhere weird!

Kru Makes Me Feel Unapologetically Bougie

I admit that I don’t go to Kru to fill up on a meal; I just like to experience the flavors. To be frank, few bites is all I can afford; granted, I order the more pricey bites. This time, I thought I’d be cheeky and have the standard salmon next to the King Salmon. the King was double the price of standard, so it only makes sense to compare the flavor of the two. I was shocked at how clear the difference was!

Beyond the fun of tasting new things, I always love when the dinner comes with a ā€œshowā€. The sushi bar is the place to sit, if you want to see the chefs light things up!

I would like to throw a concert for the benefit of Gaza. Would anybody be willing to help me organize?

I’m a manager at my job who has overseen large projects. I’m capable of organizing, and planning and executing. I’m just not confident I could do this fully by myself.

I’m just in the planning stages. I literally have nothing, so, feel free to make fun of me, if you want, but, I’ve wanted to try and organize this for a long time.

I need

- A venue that is sympathetic to this cause, if anybody knows of one; I’m, of course, willing to pay for the venue.

- Local Artists that would like to perform for charity

Aside from those two things. I’m confident I could handle the rest, promoting, tickets, etc.

Would anybody be willing to try and make something out nothing with me?

Thanks, in advance, and, I hope you have a wonderful day,

Edit:

I’m mainly looking at PCRF and the Palestinian Red Crescent (Red Cross).

Did you lose your red-eared slider (not a 100% confident ID) in Oak Park? I found it in the street today and have surrender it to The Serpentarium in Elk Grove. Your little dude narrowly missed a few cars (mine included) but is fortunately safe and sound.

Need Help Rescuing Injured Pigeon!!

Hi everyone,

There’s this very cute pigeon at the Watt I80 LRT that appears to either have a foot that is crushed or wrapped in some sort of thread. I’ve seen it here for almost a month now, and am worried for its quality of life bc it looks scruffy, and limps when it walks. I called both of the wildlife rescues near Sac, and neither of them can come out and rescue it. They have a policy that essentially requires the animal to be restrained and brought to the facility. I also don’t know if this is something ā€œserious enoughā€ to warrant rescue, or if it’ll be okay in the wild even w the injury.

I believe that I could potentially catch it, but it can still fly, so it would be tough. I also do not have a car to bring it all the way to the McClellan wildlife rescue. If anyone who knows about birds, and/or would be willing to help me rescue this sweet baby, please reach out!

taking the train from sac to sf, how intimidating is it actually?

thinking about taking a day trip to san francisco, but i refuse to drive in the bay and would be relying entirely on public transportation.

for anyone who’s made the journey:
which route did you take, and which would you recommend for a first timer?

are the transfers relatively straightforward, or is it easy to get confused?

i’d really appreciate hearing about your experiences! i want to explore the city without having to worry about driving or parking. :)

I’m having a hard time hiring a welder

Hey y’all,

I’ve reached out to a bunch of shops and independent welders and gotten rejected every time because the work isn’t big enough for them to consider worth the time/money. I’m in the El Dorado Hills area, so it makes sense, but it’s a little frustrating.

I have a moped that I bought an exhaust for, and the exhaust needs the flange cut off and welded back on at a different angle so it mounts up to the cylinder head.

The exhaust is already off of the moped. It may require an inch or two of extra piping if the angle isn’t do-able.

Is there anybody out there who is good at welding and is willing to help me out (not for free, I will pay you!) Either I can take the exhaust to you or you can come to me, whatever works I just want to ride my bike without the whole city hearing it.

Thanks y’all.

commuter bus lines - what’s the deal?

I’m not sure if I’m doing something wrong or not so hopefully someone can help! I like many other state workers are trying to figure out how to get to work without paying for parking or Lyft.

I live on the grid, however I’m still about a 35 minute walk to the office. I definitely do walk some days, but carrying my laptop and living in a ā€œtransit friendlyā€ city I would prefer to use transit on the days I can’t walk.

I’ve tried to take the commuter bus from the H st stop twice now & the bus just drives right by me. This most recent time, I waved at the bus & the driver waved back and still did not stop! It’s incredibly frustrating because it causes me to be late to work & spend the money on a Lyft.

I’ll probably just go back to taking the light rail, the bus stop was just closer to where I live.

Anyways tips are welcome and appreciated!

EDIT: Thanks all! I should have known not to trust Apple Maps. Appreciate the tips!

Curious who in here has had the chance to play any of their team/pick up sports. What do you recommend? How was your experience? Anything else to know before getting a team together for their next season?

Considering kickball, softball, ultimate frisbee but open to hearing what else folks enjoyed!

Can I sue my landlord?

Hello again :) I made a post on here before about my issues with my landlord. I have updates to the situation. I moved out on the 1st of October so it’s been well over 21 days and I still haven’t received my deposit disposition. We did get online documentation about how much we would be getting back but it’s not a check and we haven’t gotten a direct deposit. I was told they would mail it and it hasn’t come. What can I do? Has anyone been in a similar situation?

Best fall seasonal food/drink addition to local menus?

I'm looking for the fall food vibes I left behind in the Midwest as I continue going out on dinner dates. I'm thinking mostly locally but I wouldn't be apposed to a drive if need be!

So! What are the best seasonal add-ons to a local menu, be they food or alcoholic or non drinks? I'm partial to apple and sausage as well as butternut squash but I'm open to anything!!
