Announcement Sub Changes

Hello all, we wanted to let you know that there are some new mods helping to run this sub now. Our goal is to work together to make sure that this sub always reflects the values of the West Sacramento community.

With that in mind, we are updating our settings to remove any posts/comments from accounts that have negative karma. We believe this will help to keep our discussions more thoughtful and neighborly.

Beyond that, we're hoping to get your feedback on what you like about this sub, what you don't like, and what changes you might suggest. Please give us your opinions in the comments.

Thanks in advance!

Dog attack - In Oakland, but could be West Sac

A dog, Pepper, was attacked and killed by vicious dogs who were uncontrolled by their owner, in Oakland. It is in the news. Unfortunately for us here us here in West Sacramento, this has a very high probability of happening here in our town. We don't have enough funds or officers to enforce leash laws and other animal control laws. It is all left up to Yolo County Animal Control, which serves a wide radius. The three dogs parks here, Summerfield, Stone, and the one near Drake's, each have their own issues and simply are not safe. For all of the animal lovers out there, I guess especially dog owners, what can we do in the future? Dog ownership is the new "having kids", so we have to plan for our city's future. I am curious what can change, and if our city council, or future council, could have any impact.

Baby Blue BMW dangerous driving

Post image
53 Upvotes

This car has been posted before but it had a license plate. Now it has a black, paper, dealer plate on the back. On Saturday, I saw it fishtailing on Jefferson, nearly crashing into oncoming traffic. This driver is extremely dangerous and lives somewhere in the Southport/Bridgeway area. Please be careful. White male driver, approx 25-35 with blondish hair.

Recommendations (Food, Housing, Places, Activities) Bike paths and safe ways across 50?

I'm wanting to do more commuting on my bike and I need to be able to get from Bryte to the big Post Office on Industrial. I'm wondering if there are any safe ways across 50? The only one I know of is the underpass on Westacre Road. Harbor would be the most direct route but that's super sketch (the merge with the southbound onramp is bad enough in a car, and northbound is always packed up with traffic with the double lights). WestCap/Enterprise might be okay, though I'm not sure about getting around the onramp. Jefferson is pretty sketchy. 5th street and the trail over by Drake's might be okay but those are pretty far in the wrong direction.

Are there any bike paths that cut through town? I'd love to be able to get across the train tracks at places other than Harbor, Jefferson, or the River Walk. The only actual bike path I know of is the one along the river.

Recommendations (Food, Housing, Places, Activities) Any residents using Ziggurat Garage’s monthly parking?

Considering a move into Kind West Apartments. Their lot is full, so they pointed me to Ziggurat Garage.

For locals who bought Ziggurat’s $120/month pass:

  1. Is it truly 24/7 in/out access?
  2. My van only fits on the first floor; could I reliably leave my car parked Monday night to Friday morning to beat the Tuesday-Thursday rush?

Hope to see you out there!!

Recommendations (Food, Housing, Places, Activities) Protein/Healthy Smoothie Recommendations

I’m looking for a “willing to die for” protein/healthy smoothie.

My grandfather is 85, won’t move closer to family and is almost alone in sac. He won’t let us set up a food service or use DoorDash.

I want to DoorDash him a protein smoothie. One that so good his stubbornness might ask me to order it again.

With how stubborn he is, this has to be an AMAZING smoothie for him to ask me to order it again. He’s not accepting any help and I’m prepared to get an ear full just for ordering this smoothie.

I’m willing to go outside west sac for this but that’s his neighborhood and the closer to him, the closer it is to him, he might even try to go get it himself. 🤷🏼‍♀️

I’m a disabled granddaughter who has dealt with malnutrition and I can’t with good fortune not try. So, if money wasn’t a question. Where would you go for the best smoothie around?

Is anybody else sick and tired of hearing about that Bailey chick running for city council? If you follow the West Sacramento discussion page on Facebook you’ll notice that she has her gremlins making post after post supporting her and slamming her opponent. I’ll be glad when I won’t have to hear her name again… Ever!!!

Our City 20 years since Measure H, I and L failed to bring SMUD over to Yolo. Will we ever have this opportunity again?

I think we’re all in agreement that PG&E sucks and also their reputation is worse than it was 20 years ago (fires, bailouts for CEOs).

Times have changed and people are fed up with nonsense. Are folks motivated to push PG&E out once and for all?

Our City WM yard bulk pick up

Does Waste Management not care about serving the residents of West Sac? I had a scheduled bulk pickup up for yard waste, tree limbs within their standard size. They came by, took pictures, talked on the phone, and left without anything being removed. They literally could have picked up the limbs and put them in the truck during the time they took to dawdle and presumably complain to their boss. I put them in small bundled piles to be easily picked up as instructed.

When I lived in Sacramento county, all we had to do was leave a big pile in front of the house and they would come by with a tractor to pick it up. I guess I thought it would be the same here, but no, it was just an extra guy and a regular trash truck.

How is West Sacramento supposed to get rid of bulk yard trimmings if WM doesn't service their customers?

Our City Buy Nothing West Sac Group on Facebook

Just a wanted to recommend the Buy Nothing West Sac group on Facebook if you have stuff in decent condition that you want to get rid of for free.

I just listed a dozen items that didn't sell at my garage sale, included a single photo and my street address. Two thirds of it was gone within 30 minutes.

Saved me the trip to Goodwill (and the grumpy "We don't take that" hassles). And the stuff stays out of the landfill. And hopefully finds a good home here in West Sac.

Our City What happened to the grocery outlet employee with no teeth?

I know grocery outlet on harbor had an ownership change maybe a year ago and they’ve done a lot of the sounds since then. However, I’ve noticed all new staff and I’m wondering what happened? I’ve been in west sac for 10 years and the same employees were largely at that GO for all this time. I liked them. I had personal kind conversations with them.

In particular there was a white woman in her 50s or 60s, very thin and on the shorter side. She usually had short gray hair.

When I first moved to west sac I had just graduated from school and didn’t have a job. I scraped by on savings for awhile and then went on Cal Fresh. I was super embarrassed and don’t know how to use it but I needed it. She walked me through that and explained stuff to me. Explained I didn’t need to pay for bags on Cal Fresh. She made it ok and not a shameful thing.

She watched me evolve from an unemployed, very struggling person to a successful person with a good job- got married and had kids. She met my kids. She joked with them neither she nor the babies had teeth! Always lighthearted and smiling and working hard. What an evolution from the person selling plasma to get by to where I am now. She witnessed that and cheered for me every time I saw her. I always picked her lane! But I didn’t know her name and our interactions never went further than that. I often thought of writing her a card at the holidays or giving a tip but felt shy telling her our interactions had been so comforting to me.

I hope she is ok and that the new owners did not force out such a great employee. If anyone knows where she works now I’d love to get her that card this year.
