Polished my Nickel 29-2

Had people ask me what I use to polish my nickel guns. I have been using renaissance wax. It works great on flawless finishes but doesn’t remove any imperfections. Got this 29-2, 8 3/8” Smith because the nickel looked clear. Not cloudy and felt confident I could polish out the light scratches. Mothers work very well. I could polish more, but worry I will go too far, so I’ll accept the condition that it’s in currently, for now. I would say it removed about 60% of the scratches it came with.

Would like community input

Was wondering what the revolver community feels about the Ruger news. I just started to collect GP100’s earlier this year. My first GP100 I bought in the late 80’s. My 6” stainless. Just never got more until this year. Picked up 2 GP100’s. 1 six shot 3” and 1 seven shot 2.5”. My most recent purchase was a Super RedHawk 8 shot 2.75”. These were all acquired pre Rugers announcement and I wanted to start collecting SP101’s and Blackhawks. I see the prices climbing. Hoping to get feedback if anyone thinks the prices will settle down or just keep climbing. Thanks.

$1250 at a LGS. Might be able to haggle. It’s in great shape.

An admission: I do not like 3 inch revolvers

Anybody else?

I have owned 3 inch revolvers in .357 Magnum, .38 Special, and .32 S&W Long. Regardless of caliber, and despite what some claim about it being the "ideal compromise," I experience a three inch barrel to be a compromise that focuses on the undesirable.

In .32, I experience a snubnose to be the perfect barrel length. In .357 (or even .38), a 4 inch barrel makes everything about the shooting experience so much better (ballistics, recoil, accurate aim, etc.).

I suppose a three inch barrel is slightly more concealable than 4 inch. But if concealability is the main concern, and a revolver is a must, it seems a snubnose is the obvious best selection.

I recognize and agree with the sentiment "to each his own" and that any person should utilize the handgun with which he is most comfortable. I just don't get the oft-repeated statement that a 3 inch barrel is ideal.

Any thoughts?

44-40 caliber Orbea Hermanos Spanish copy of S&W Top Break revolver. Seems more of a copy of S&W's smaller double action revolvers (albeit scaled up) than a copy of their model 3's even if it is the model 3's size. The trigger guard, latch and hammer are like the more modern smaller guns. The model three has the recurved back to the trigger guard, the different shaped barrel latch and the hammer that pins the latch when fired and must be half cocked to open the latch. The Hermanos gun has none of these features. The Double Action #3's also had the rocking cylinder lock that required two rows of notches on the cylinder. The Hermanos has the tight bore and chambers found on some older 44-40's. Groove diameter is 0.426" none of my reloads will chamber and only some of my older ammo from my cartridge collection. I did make a round that would chamber, loaded it with black powder and a 0.428" bullet and test fired it. I am thinking I will be shooting this gun more. It is solid.

Email this morning of new re-releases (no lock), but I’ve yet to purchase myself my first new revolver. With so many posts and forums of S&W fall and decline in QC, makes me rather hesitant to even purchase anything from them. What’s everyone’s thoughts 💭

I think these are cool I guess, but I’m not particularly interested in them.

Now, a short barrel variant like the old Jovino Effector would own bones.

New hogue grips

I decided to try out the new hogue grips with the full back stap and pinky extension. I have very large hands xxl or bigger glove, and found the small pinky extension was just awkward in my hand but love the cushion on the palm side . So as you can see in this picture I cut the pinky grove off with a hot knife making it fit like the bantam grip . Love this new configuration .

Revolver Deals

Where do you people find these revolver deals? I live in Eastern NC and have traveled the state looking for reasonably priced revolvers, both new and used. I've gone into pawn shops and big box retail stores and can hardly find any decent selection of wheel guns.

Acres of semi-automatic pistols. The same ones you see ad-nauseum at full retail prices, plus tax and any other fee they can stick you with, and they act like they're doing you a favor...

I've grown to enjoy going into these shit shops and handling firearms, only to go and buy from the most reasonable retailer and have it shipped to my FFL.

Caveat Emptor I guess...

Retailers, stop being so greedy. The public knows the value of a firearm. They must want the product really bad to pay your asking price or they are uneducated about the buying process...

Just say No to getting ripped off by retailers.

686 plus dilemma

So I’m currently wanting an OWB .357 I currently have a Kimber K6S 3” for AIWB but wanted some more capacity and a little extra power I can get a 5” pro used with speed loaders and upgraded sight but being used doesn’t have a warranty has less than 100 rounds. The other option was a new 686+ from my LGS 4” which is what I was originally looking at for the same $925 as the used one. I’m still new to revolvers what are your thoughts. Thanks in advance

Added one final Ruger wheel gun to the collection, a CHP gun trial Security Six in 38 special, 6" barrel. Quite a good looking revolver! About 500 were made.

Looking to spend sub $1000, use it for range fun (want silver because all my current guns are black). Found a colt python 5" for $899, is this a good bet? Any recs on better options for the money, I also saw a s&w 686 performance center for around the same...

Despite almost everyone suggesting the 686, I bought the python...now time to hunt for some deals on .38 rounds for the range...

Taurus 817

For those who have one… how does the 817 compare in size to a K or L frame Smith ? I had a 2” pre-Mdl 10 and loved it, wanting to replace it with something similar; and the 817 fits the bill I think.
