Oops, I forgot I hadn’t actually posted! Gonna see if I can post it all (3 and 4) tonight. My country’s in an environmental health hazard situation the past couple of months and it threw all our routine out the window cause we had to stay depressed shut indoors in the heat, worry about racking up air purifier bills, and go outside and suffocate with masks and get zero sun and live with high stress over falling sick. Eff the haze man 🫠 The monsoon season is coming in though so the sky’s be crazy clear the past week. Hope it stays.
*Book 3 and Player Manager spoilers ahead! I like to note down any memorable story highlights that happen and any thoughts I had at that point with chapter stamps.

Final/Overall Thoughts:
I’m someone who only knows soccer from soccer manga and I love the comradeship aspect of team sports so those bits are typically what I like about this story ✌️ The tactics and all that I will like only if I’m able to understand it, it is definitely easier to get with pictures in a manga 😆 So any match complaints I have are probably because I didn’t quite get it and was too lazy to google videos of what moves they are😅
So, the start until like C10 ish were a bit boring to read through because he’s at another MBU team and it feels a little uninspired. Also, Max is stressed about the money for his mom thing, so not much joy of just playing football. Things picked up more starting the Pro Course! That was fun to actually see a bit of what goes on in there. Then, the ending and what will happen in Book 4😭 The author normally always do amazing at endings, I must say.

Not gonna lie, the Max Best Universe and all the different leagues, Cups and whatnot that are applicable/more likely to happen with a specific club over another have lost me. Too many names lol. So I am Banksy 😂 But aww, there’s a budding romance with Banksy and the Women’s team! ☺️

“I want to give minutes to my boys. Aff, Carl Carlile, Sam Topps. They were at Chester when I got here, when we trained in BoshCard's back garden and had cold showers at the stadium.”
“I don't know, right, but I know that they gave me everything, over and over again.”
“I'm ruthless when I have to be ruthless. Those three weren't going to come with us to League One, to the Championship, so I let them go.”
“Fast forward a couple of years and because of your goals, I have the chance to give them something really special. For one day and one day only, I'm the manager who can make dreams come true. I can be the guy who took them all the way from the dregs of tier 6 to the Champions League. It's magical. To me, anyway.”
I’m never gonna stop noting every instance of when Max is being nice to people because of what they meant to him ☺️
—C4—
Hmm, not a fan of the flowery writing by Henri. I can’t really feel the emotions through the obliquity of the words. It just sounds like he’s play-acting and I never can get the emotions from that, especially through writing. Can’t tell if he’s hurt or angry for real. And if he actually isn’t, the whole writing it down as if he was just feels pointless. Cut through the faff! Get to the root cause! Can you tell that I’m the type of person that detest pranks as a concept because it is completely and utterly pointless? 😅

We get some momentum, but as we pour forward I realise it's a trap. I put my foot on the ball and push my palms towards the turf. Calm, guys. We have a long night ahead of us.
The PM smiles for the first time. He glances to his right, at Cheb, who smiles back and shrugs. What can you do?
You’re finally locked in and doing good, Henri!

Speaking of Wreckham and Ryan Renolds, does the author know about the huge controversy about him, Blake Lively and them bullying Justin Baldoni, over his own movie? More evidence of rich powerful people doing horrible things just because they fully believe that the world exists to bow at their feet. But the average people all know and they’re hiding for now 🤔 Wonder if it will ever come up in the story.
—C10–
We have Dylan and the chat back yay! It’s been awhile.
Nooo, Youngster is 22 in the spreadsheets, he’s growing too fast 😩 That’s like 1 year off how old Max was in Book 1 like last month 😩
—C11—
The thing is, I thought to myself, there are loads of reasons why I don't want to play for Chester right now.
One was a general lack of spark.
Uhhh, what? Isn’t this the dream? Thought he loves he togetherness of it all. Sure, the buying the company stress is there but still. Gotta remind myself that Max is an unreliable narrator and there will be some moving reason for this. Maybe he’s burnt out. Plus the wedding, the Pro license, the cure. Would prefer it if it was mentioned as stress instead of just not feeling the spark though. Less mind gymnastics to get through 🫠

By the same t*ken, if I stepped back from the front lines at Chester for a while, my players and staff might flourish.
Ooh, a more interesting reasoning. Now, I wanna see how they act without him.

The Welsh FA ran the in-person elements of their UEFA Pro courses from the Celtic Manor (pronounced keltic), a five-star golf, spa, and wellness resort near Newport. I'd had a long, long drive to get there, but the bedroom was top notch and I had a great sleep.
I didn’t realise the course is going to take so long you have to stay over. I am strangely excited for it now 🤔

UEFA Pro 27/28 Day One Review
Course Coordinator: David Jones
Yes! New outsider pov from the course!
—C12—
Yes!! 🙌 I am loving this course 😆 It’s got a lot of the bits I love about Max 😆 Meeting new people and Max isn’t combative against them so the vibe is collaborative and nerdy, the course itself is cool and I had always wanted the author to show what goes on in there so I feel like I’m learning something new, it adds more lore to the worldbuilding, we have scenes of Max teaching younger kids(!! Best parts that I wish the author would show and milk it more) where it’s Max at his best, lots of outsider pov ish scenes of Max doing stuff, ahhhh.

“We might want our goalies and defenders to kick long in the rain."
Those words made me laugh. "Why do I feel like every football club between 1850 and 2010 came to the same conclusion?"
Uhh, didn’t Max do a whole miserable phase because of the swamp rain back in non-league in an early book?? He hated the rain so much while playing on potato fields and had to force everyone to play long balls in the rain. The one where he tried to kick penalties or something and fell flat on his face. It was even referenced not too long ago. Why is he acting like this is news?
—C13–
…the young tearaway stopped the ball. Just stopped it, stopped moving. Enjoyed the feeling as 74,000 Welshmen screamed, begging him to kick the ball into the empty net.
The kid rolled the ball into the net.
The kid jogged towards the nearest camera and made a heart shape with his fingers before he was simply covered in teammates.
GOAL
Roddy Jones 90+2
Oh dang! It’s Roddy, that was Roddy! 😆 That feels so great to see all of Max’s work pay off 😆

“I am dying.”
“I want to die on Polish soil. I long to go home and I want you to drive me."
She spoke softly and said, "You owe me, Max Best."
Winners, losers, Scotland, Saudi. No-one chooses how to live; we're all just choosing how to die. Anna wanted to die at home and she had earned that much.
Nooo, omaigod, what the heck Anna, aw man 😔
—C14—
“She wants to go home and die at home and be buried with her parents in the church near her home. She won't get in a plane and she wants me to drive her there. She's old and frail and we'll have to stop ten times a day and it'll take ages…”
Anna, noo 😭😭😭
——-
Aww, I love how this chapter is just full of Max noticing all the little things the men’s team were noticing and then doing to help each other out on the field. Very team, much Chester.

Mr. and Mrs. Smith-Smithe; Crewe; 5,000.
John Smith; Chester; 20,000.
Angel; Chester; 30,000.
Sir Ian Masters; London; 100,000.
Robert Pomfret; Sale; 100,000.
Emma Weaver; Chester; 200,000.
Dang, this legit brought unexpected tears to my eyes 😭 The numbers got so high. Ahh, my heart 😭
Brooke Star leaned forward and clinked her glass against my bottle. "We'll always have Wembley, Max."
Beth grabbed a bottle and came forward. "We'll always have Man City Under 16s."
Stop it with the feels agehfjgk (actually, never)
