Feedback wanted I made a camera app that records portrait and landscape at the same time! [UPDATE]

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

• Upvotes

Last month I posted about a camera app I made for my partner because I was tired of watching her film every scene twice - she likes making content so would film vertical once and and then horizontal again, and this helps her save time without losing quality.

New updates this month include a new Pause/Resume feature, Telephoto lens support, combining Front & Back takes together, 25/50 fps, sharing multiple recordings/clips at once, and many more improvements and bug fixes!

That's 4 iPhone and 3 Android updates this month, all while continuing my day job as a physio!

What should I build next? got my eyes on filters, a voice scrolling teleprompter, and platform specific overlays.

Existing features so far:

  • Recording modes: Single Lens, Dual Lens, Front & Back, and Photos
  • HD and 4K resolution (set independently for each orientation)
  • 24, 25, 30, 50, and 60fps.
  • Teleprompter
  • Timelapse
  • Manual controls (EV, WB, ISO, Shutter, Blur)
  • Audio meter (real-time detection, pulse red when clipping)
  • Projects, scenes, and takes for organisation, recordings named automatically.
  • Review and trim recordings side-by-side, export, favourite, and share at any time.

No data collection, no analytics, no ads, no watermark, no account required, and everything runs locally (no internet required).

Would love to hear any feedback you have!

Feedback wanted Work in Progress, Proof Studio - Workout Analysis Tool

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

• Upvotes

Hey r/ProductivityApps

Wanted to share a my app here, looking for feedback on my latest feature, planning to go out in my next release...

Proof is a workout tracker and analysis tool (yes another one). On the iPhone, its main job is to track your workouts, strength training (or other goal), steps, sleep, etc... . It guides you through your progression (IE: suggests to go up, or down), and gives you a pre and post workout analysis.

While I would like people to use the app for its logging, you can import CVS, or feeds from other workout apps, if you want to just use it for analysis. I'm not looking to earn any $ from this project, I just want people to use it. It's 100% free, no strings attached.

This newest piece is an iPad version I’m calling Proof Studio. In the app you can see your routine on a body map, how many sets each muscle gets, how each lift is trending, and you can pick a goal (like bigger arms or a V-taper) and it suggests the lifts your routine is missing. You can also log a workout from a bar along the bottom. The iPhone and iPad stay in sync through your own iCloud.

The video is my own training log. If you want to poke at it yourself, there’s a browser demo with sample data (nothing to install, nothing saved):

A little about me. I'm a product designer for over 20 years, and took this on as a personal project. I know there are 1 million apps out there that do something similar. I want to say Proof is unique, because of all the time I've spend on the insights engine. Also, I pay particular attention to the interaction design, pushing paradigms and design I wouldn't normally get to push in my day job. This one is completely designed "by hand".

General Advice I forget to take breaks and end the day with a headache and a stiff neck

• Upvotes

Kind of the opposite problem from most posts here. I don't get distracted, I get too locked in.

When I'm deep in a task (I do data work, so lots of spreadsheets and dashboards), I'll go 4–5 hours straight without standing up, drinking water, or looking away from the screen. It feels productive in the moment. But by 5pm I have a pounding headache, my neck and shoulders are stiff, and my eyes burn. A couple of times I've realised at 3pm that I never ate lunch.

I've tried phone timers, but the phone is on the other side of the desk, so I silence them without even looking. My smartwatch stand reminder gets dismissed on reflex. I even put a sticky note on my monitor, and I stopped seeing it after day two

Feedback wanted I struggled with productivity for years. Here's what worked for me.

A few months ago, a friend (who's a YC founder) suggested we try something different.

We started doing 15-minute daily calls with other founders. The idea was simple: everyone answers 2 questions: what did you do yesterday and what are you doing today. And surprisingly, it worked!

When you know that tomorrow you'll have to tell other people what you actually got done, you start taking your plans a bit more seriously 😂

But the best part wasn't even the productivity. It was the people we met along the way. Some really interesting founders joined our calls, we started sharing ideas, giving feedback on each other's projects, and having great conversations.

At some point, my friend decided to turn this little system into an actual platform called Doneas.com, and I joined him to help build it.

We launched on Product Hunt last week and finished #3 of the day, which was very exciting for us!

I'm still doing these calls today, and I genuinely think they've helped me more than any productivity app I've tried.

Has anyone here tried something similar? Do you want to join us?

Advice needed Just made this because I was tired of using 3 different apps just to plan my day

Every morning, I'd open Google Calendar to see what I had planned. Then switch to my to do app to check what needed to get done. Then back to Google Calendar to figure out when I'd actually have time to do those tasks.

And somehow, 10 minutes later, I'd be scrolling through Instagram, completely forgetting what I was doing in the first place.

I tried sticking to just one app, but there was always something missing. Some were actually great for calendars but terrible for tasks. While others had quite impressive to do lists but no proper way to schedule them.

So I just built timebird.space instead.

It's pretty simple. You connect your Google Calendar, add your tasks, and drag them into your schedule to plan when you'll actually work on them. You can also manage meetings/classes and plan your week without constantly needing to switch between apps.

I'm not trying to reinvent productivity or anything like that. I just wanted one singular place where I could see what I needed to do and when I was going to do it.

There's a demo you can click through on the site if you're curious.

Let me know if you've got questions.

General Advice What are the best alternatives to Motion?

I've been using Motion for scheduling and task management, but lately I've found it more complicated than i need.

I'm looking at alternatives that still offer good scheduling, task prioritization, and calendar management without too much complexity.

I'm especially interested in tools with an established user base rather than brand news apps.

For those who have moved away from Motion, what has worked well for you and why?

General Advice Which productivity apps do you actually use?

What productivity apps have actually stayed on your phone long term?

Mine are:

Notion for notes, projects, and planning

Todoist for everyday tasks and recurring reminders

Forest for staying focused

Listonic for shared shopping and daily lists

I used to use Pocket for saving articles, but since it's shutting down, I'm looking for a replacement.

What productivity apps have actually earned a permanent place on your phone?

Casual Conversations what made you stop ignoring your own screen time limits?

setting a limit is easy when you're not currently interested in using the app.

the awkward part is when it comes up halfway through watching something and extending it takes about two seconds. after a while, dismissing the warning can become as automatic as opening the app.

bedtime seems especially bad for this. you can know you'll regret staying up and still decide that another few minutes won't matter.

if you used to ignore your limits, what changed? did you need a restriction that was harder to undo, or did something outside your phone help you stick to it?

interested in what kept working after the first motivated week.

Advice needed Looking for a calendar app with a "Show Deleted / Archive" toggle for that satisfying daily wipe

I want to keep my calendar completely white and empty at the end of the day because deleting/clearing completed events gives me huge satisfaction.

However, I don't want to lose my history.

Is there a calendar app that lets you delete events to clear your daily view, but also has a quick "Show Deleted" or archive toggle so you can easily bring back or view past completed items whenever you need to?

Any recommendations?

Self Promotion I hacked my ADHD brain to be more invested in learning

Thumbnail

I have ADHD and do a million different things (five different sports, acting, books, podcasts, meeting new people, etc.) but barely remember half of what I learn along the way. So I've been trying to trick my brain into being more engaged. Here's the solution that worked for me:

An iMessage bot that

  1. I send the bot tiny notes about people and their sources (eg it finds the podcast for me, or adds the epub I bought or remembers where I met them)
  2. Every person is a little flower that grows when I interact (my ADHD brain needs gamification)
  3. Automatically organizes everything into sections around people, lets me save reminders and helps me revisit what I've learned
  4. Lets me ask questions about everything I've saved

= instead of organizing ideas & sources into folders, tags or not at all, I organize them around people.

The "hack" is basically giving my brain a person to attach information to instead of a pile of disconnected notes, while removing the friction of actually capturing and organizing what I learn.

I've been using it every day and would love to hear if it's helpful for you too. Comment/DM if you'd like to try it!

Casual Conversations What types of reminders do you wish existed?

It seems like across many productivity, to-do, or reminder apps you see the same basic types of reminders:

- one time
- standard recurring (like daily, weekly, etc)
- custom recurring (every 1st of the month, etc)
- location based
- event based (tied to a calendar event or birthday)

Personally, I’d like to see more context-aware reminders that might only go off if it rains for example, or adjust a heads up to leave somewhere if traffic is heavy.

Does anyone else have any weird, uncommon, or creative ones they’d like to see?
Or do you find that the options available are generally fine for what you need?

Like many of you, I am a builder so I love hearing what people actually want!

General Advice Before you pay $144/year for Wispr Flow, you can use ChatGPT for dictation

Post image
105 Upvotes

I just discovered that the ChatGPT desktop app has built-in voice-to-text, and surprisingly, it works across your Mac, not just inside ChatGPT.

If you're paying $144/year for Wispr Flow Pro, this might save you another subscription.

What I like about it:

  • Free to use
  • Works across Mac apps
  • Customizable keyboard shortcut
  • No additional software to install if you already use ChatGPT

How to enable it:

  1. Open ChatGPT on your Mac.
  2. Go to Settings → Voice → Dictation.
  3. Set your keyboard shortcut.
  4. Press the shortcut in any app and start speaking.

That's it.

Has anyone tried both? I'm curious whether Wispr Flow is worth paying for if you already have ChatGPT installed.

Self Promotion a dot grows as you use your phone

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Eclipse puts a black dot over your screen. It grows while you use your phone and shrinks when you put it down. After a while it's in the way, so you notice you've been scrolling.

Maps, calls, camera, clock and Settings stay clear. You can add more apps to that list, or have the dot show up only in the ones you lose time in.

Feedback wanted I made a short video of a rough idea for making planning less overwhelming. Where would it lose you?

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Hey everyone,

About a week ago I asked in few places why planning apps sometimes feel like just another thing to manage.

Some of the replies really stuck with me. People spending ages making the perfect todo list and then having no energy left to actually start. Or waking up every morning just to move yesterday's unfinished tasks to today.

So I put together a very rough prototype around that and made a short video of it (above). Basically, you talk through everything that's on your mind, and instead of a plan to organize, you get one thing to start with right now. Unfinished stuff doesn't turn into a red pile of overdue tasks. And if your day goes sideways, it suggests a new plan for the rest of it, so you are not stuck reorganizing everything.

There's no actual working app behind it, just screens. And I really don't know if this would be useful to anyone outside my own head, so I would love to hear from you:

  1. Think of the last day you had way too much on your plate. What did you actually end up doing first?
  2. Watching the video, at what point would this lose you?

And if you think I am looking at the problem completely wrong, I would be just as interested in hearing that :)

Advice needed task tracking app reccomendations

Hi, I've been looking for some sort of task tracking method and was wondering if anyone had recommendations. I currently use a Jibun Techo but also wanted a digital way of keeping track of tasks. I used to use Motion, but the cost was just too crazy to continue to justify. I also used to use Google Calendar, but it was very meh, and I wasn't the biggest fan of it.

I'm hoping to find something that's free, can become a widget on iPhone (honestly willing to give up on this too), has both calendar blocks and tasks, can create different categories for tasks, and has both website access on a laptop (Windows) and an app (iPhone) if possible.

If anyone has recommendations, I'd love to hear!

Advice needed Looking for a todo/notes app

- must be lightweight, no bloat or ai features or anything, just a clean notepad with basic formatting (font sizes, headers, automatic indentation/lists and checkboxes)
- has an actually good looking apple-style UI with a dark mode
- has both a website and an android app
- cross device sync, should instantly and seamlessly save changes between the web and mobile app
- has a clean, good looking, resizable mobile widget for android that allows me to display any chosen note, and tapping on the widget should instantly open the note

essentially i just want google keep with better UI

drop recommendations, would probably pay up to like 5 dollars a month

i know i could vibecode one myself but im too lazy

Feedback wanted Why does one project turn into 6 tabs before I’ve actually done any work?

I keep running into the same problem whenever a project involves more than writing.

The notes live in one app. Research ends up in a pile of browser tabs. AI conversations sit somewhere else. If I need an image, video, or presentation, that means opening another tool, explaining the context again, downloading the result, and uploading it back into the project.

At some point, moving the work around becomes its own task.

That’s the problem we’ve been trying to solve with Buildin.

Instead of treating AI as a separate chat window, the workspace keeps the documents, project context, structured data, and outputs together. You can add or call a Skill for a specific task, run it with the context already in the workspace, and keep the result on the same page.

For example, we recently imported a 2D sprite Skill from GitHub, generated a sprite sheet, and saved the output beside the project notes and source material. The interesting part wasn’t the image generation. It was not having to rebuild the project context in another tool and carry the result back manually.

I don’t think one app should try to replace every specialized tool. I just want the workspace to stop forgetting what I’m working on every time the task changes.

I’m affiliated with Buildin, so this is a self-promo post. Here’s the product if the workflow sounds familiar: https://buildin.ai

Which handoff wastes the most time in your own workflow: moving the context into another tool, or organizing the output after it comes back?

Advice needed Need recommendations for a good affirmation app. Anybody?

Heyy!

I've been looking into affirmation apps lately and wanted to find one that's actually good. There don't seem to be that many options, at least from what I've found so far and the ones I came across didn't really seem curated and hence didn't appeal to me 🤷🏻‍♀️

The only one that caught my attention was MyBeing, but it seems relatively new so I'm not sure how good it actually is or whether there are better alternatives out there

If you use affirmation apps, which ones do you recommend? Mainly looking for something with a good collection of affirmations that I can explore based on different moods or things I'm working on. Personalized, you know

Feedback wanted Braindump to Claude or ChatGPT and get a todo list on your phone (on Weeklane)

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Been working on Weeklane for a while. A minimalistic to do app and weekly planner to help you structure your days and get more productive.

I have now added plugins/connectors directly with ChatGPT and Claude (or your preferred AI). Dump your thoughts and it helps you structure them into a weekly to do list with tasks and reminders for each day, directly into the app on your phone.

You can also integrate with your calender, have re-ocxuring tasks and also shared projects.

Happy for any feedback if you try it! :)

Feedback wanted Why does planning my day need like 5 different apps

Last month, I realized I was spending more time trying to organize my day than actually getting things done. And that's not even the first time, happened multiple times before. There's Google Calendar for my classes and meetings. A separate app for my to do list, and then tasks I keep forgetting about to mention in them. And all those little things I tell myself I'll do later but never actually do.

I tried keeping everything in Google Calendar, but let's be real, it just got messy. So I built timebird instead.

It's pretty simple. You basically connect your Google Calendar, add your tasks, plan your week, and schedule meetings, all in one singular place. You can also block out time for tasks, share booking links, check different time zones, and use the built-in assistant to help plan things.

I am not trying to replace every productivity app out there, that's impossible. It just does one thing, it makes planning your day easier without having to switch between multiple apps.

There's a demo you can click through on the site if you're curious.

Let me know if you've got any further questions.

Feedback wanted I made a small Chrome extension that lets you organise TikTok sounds you’ve saved (tags, notes, playlists, search)

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

If you save a lot of TikTok sounds to use later, you’ve probably noticed there’s no real way to organise them. TikTok removed the Sounds tab from Favourites on the web, so you can’t even find the ones you saved.

I built a free Chrome extension for that. It brings the list back, then adds the organising tools that were never there:

  • Search across everything you’ve saved, including the notes and tags you add
  • Tags and a short note on any sound (for example “drop at 0:42” or “use for gym edits”)
  • Playlists you can rename and drag into order
  • Filter by the year you saved it
  • Hide sounds you’re done with, without losing them
  • Backup and restore, so your organising isn’t stuck in one browser

It’s built for people who edit videos or collect audio and want a proper library instead of a long scroll.

It runs entirely in your browser, no account, no tracking: https://chromewebstore.google.com/detail/saved-sounds-for-tiktok/bkjljdeihfefmgnphfkfpdcmimpfcjej

Full disclosure, I’m the developer. What would make this more useful for how you organise things?
