Medication Medication help
Is there anyway to get medication without a diagnosis from a neurologist?
My 7 year old son no doubt has ADHD. When we went to go get evaluated the nurse practitioner saw it herself. But because his teachers questionnaire was the total opposite from mine, he could not be diagnosed since it’s not effecting him in 2 place settings. He masks it very well in school. But everywhere else it is clearly there.
They suggested behavioral therapy. I know my son. He is very intelligent. He just needs something to calm him down. I’ve tried magnesium. Really doesn’t do anything for him. I fear him losing friends and having a rough time socially because he gets too much sometimes . I see the other kids maturing and looking at him like why is he always so loud and hyper? Help!!

Seek out a psycho educational evaluation. They will diagnose and observe (so will have 3 places to pull from) and can refer you to someone to prescribe if your ped won’t. (Many want a specialist to do this)

We saw a developmental pediatrician and received a diagnosis and prescription in that way. We asked our normal pediatrician and she had a few she recommended, and even just one working with their practice. I did need a referral for insurance purposes but your insurance may require one.
