MEDIA/GAME CONTENT Hong kong battle in Japanese dub [English sub]

It’s me again, your favorite petrichor.

Today I’ve decided to upload the entire Hong Kong battle in Japanese dub. The video includes English subtitles (made by me), which are meant to translate directly what the characters are saying.

However, there may be some inaccuracies, as I’m still learning the language and am far from being a pro at this. Any line that starts with a “?” means I couldn’t fully understand what was being said.

I’ve also tried to use different colors for each character’s dialogue to make it easier to tell who’s speaking. Please keep in mind that the video quality might be rather low, as I had to dig pretty deep to find this in the first place.

With all that said, I hope you enjoy it. Feel free to point out any mistranslations or help me improve my understanding of Japanese if you’re familiar with the language. Any feedback is appreciated as well (plz tell me if the video is working properly).

DISCUSSION Jaeger Crawler-Transportor Badges and Their Interesting Implications

Thumbnail

A detail I don't see many people talk about is the little badges featured on the two Jaeger ground transports we see in the film. I believe these transports have some interesting implications to who was stationed in a Shatterdome and the military structure of the PPDC. Everything here is a theory but I think its a compelling one.

The first crawler we see is the one carrying Gipsy Danger in the start of the film (images 2-4).

To anyone familiar with Romeo Blue the second image might stand out to them since both the skull and crossed swords and the blue/red field with the yellow lighting are symbols featured prominently on the Jaeger (shown in image 3).

As for reasons I'll explain later I believe these crawlers show symbols related to Jaegers they've transported before*.

But Romeo Blue was stationed in the Los Angeles Shatterdome for all of its career, right?

Yes, but theirs actually a window of time where Romeo Blue would've been stationed in Anchorage. The Los Angeles Shatterdome wasn't built until July 11th, 2017. The Anchorage Shatterdome was the first North American Shatterdome and it was built in November 23, 2016.

While most Jaegers weren't stationed in their home country, I don't think its a stretch to assume that Romeo Blue could've been stationed in the Anchorage Shatterdome for a few months between 2016-2017.

Also depending on the source the Anchorage Shatterdome is located on Kodiak Island, where all the Mark-1's were built. This has been retconned to it always being Anchorage, but Mark-1's lead nicely into my next point.

The 4th image shows to more badges. One "belongs" to Gipsy Danger. More on this later. But the green clover design verifiably belongs to Horizon Brave. This is proven by Image 5 and the symbol can be seen on the Jaeger in the movie.

If we go by the previous logic that implies Horizon Brave was stationed in Anchorage once. This is a little weird since the Hong Kong Shatterdome was opened almost exactly a year before the Anchorage Shatterdome. It could be a left over of the Anchorage Shatterdome being apart of the Mark-1 factory on Kodiak Island, or it could mean Horizon Brave was stationed in Anchorage for some reason.

Now onto the second transport. We see this one carrying Cherno Alpha in Hong Kong. Images 6-9.

Two symbols immediately recognizable are Crimson Typhoon's logo (Its red here but its also the golden symbol seen on the Jaegers left shoulder armor. The last image shows a clearer version of the logo).

The other immediately recognizable logo is Striker Eureka's. Its the blueish-orange icon on the right. The symbol is actually Max biting down on a missile.

However theirs a secret third icon in the far right of the image. A zoomed in screenshot is on image 7.

I believe this is Tacit Ronin's icon, or one related to the Jaeger. Looking at the in movie image it appears to be a red circle with a red triangle inside of it. Now look at image 8. The same logo is on the right thigh of Tacit Ronin. This may not be Tacit Ronin's icon, but I am sure this symbol is related to the Jaeger.

Going by our logic established earlier this implies Tacit Ronin was stationed in Hong Kong for a time, which again lines up with the lore. Tacit Ronin was stationed in the Nagasaki Shatterdome and the Tokyo Shatterdome. Both of these were built months after the Hong Kong Shatterdome was built, meaning for a time Tacit Ronin could've been stationed in Hong Kong and ridden this exact crawler in the film.

Image 9 is of the other side of the Hong Kong crawler.

On it we can see a repeat logo for Striker and Typhoon. The two new badges are Cherno Alpha's logo (top left), and one we haven't seen before. Its similar to the one on Romeo Blue, but image 10 shows a clearer version and its 100% not the one on Romeo Blue.

This leads me to some theories about the PPDC's structure and a Jaeger's role in the military

Look at images 10-14. Those clearly aren't Jaeger logos, but they are on Jaeger crawlers and even on the Jaegers themselves.

Remember how I mentioned that badge that "belonged" to Gipsy Danger. Look at Image 11, then back at Image 4. Those are the same badge. Now look at Image 12. On Gipsy's outer neck/shoulder armor is the same logo (its mirrored in the image but its clearly the same logo, its also on the Infinity Studio figure, an image of it will be in the comments).

The badge on Gipsy says "Pacific 1st Defense" and the one on the HK Crawler says "Jäger Core 1." The few others that we know exist, but I haven't been able to find in the film, say "Ocean Tactics" and "JA-232."

I believe these could be military patches. They resemble military (specifically United States) patches in look and feel, and would make sense being on a Jaeger.

If that's the case this does simply that either A) The PPDC is a much more complected structured military than we initially thought, with "cores" of Jaegers or specific "defense" groups. Or B) Jaegers could be an honorary part of their home country's military.

I personally lean towards the former rather then the latter. Either way Gipsy was likely part of the Pacific 1st Defense alongside an unknown number of Jaegers.

Now what does this mean. I have no clue. I highly doubt the people working on the movie put much thought into what each little badge or icon truly meant, but its fun to theorize.

Either way I thought these findings were interesting. They add to the silent worldbuilding on the movie which implied a much larger universe than the one we got (Not retconned by Uprising as some think, this smaller universe is OG PacRim creators own doing).

These theories are actually the first theories I came up with years ago, but I've never posted about them until now. Tell me what you guys think of them. Do they make sense or have I missed something?

(Fun Fact: these Crawler Transports are similar in size and design to the ones NASA uses to transport rockets. Its fun to headcanon that these crawlers were taken from NASA and repurposed by the PPDC to be Jaeger transports)

*Note: I feel I didn't explain this as well as I wished. I believe these crawlers carry the symbols of the Jaegers they carried due to how varied they are. For example the one carrying Cherno has symbols related to Cherno, Typhoon, Striker, and Tacit Ronin. All 4 of these Jaegers were predominately stationed in 4 separate Shatterdomes. But each Jaeger has a period in their history where it's plausible (or all but confirmed) that they could've been stationed in the HK Dome. We also know that Jaegers get moved around from dome to dome. Gipsy was originally stationed in Lima before being moved to Anchorage and Echo Saber was in Tokyo before being moved to Sydney. So its not impossible for all of them to have been in Hong Kong.

FAN ART Dagozin: fury from the deep - A fan-made Pacific Rim style Kaiju concept by ichoris_corruptra on Instagram

Thumbnail
gallery
12 Upvotes

First Note: The following story for this Kaiju is written by ichoris_corruptra, who is also the guy who made this Kaiju.

Near a bustling city, out from the depths comes crashing a gigantic beast, which wastes no time in destroying all in sight.
Roaring and frothing like a raged animal, it topples down buildings and massive skyscrapers to the ground.
A figure appears on a rooftop, a strange girl with pink and blue hair, a mighty sword in her hand. The beast filled with rage roars and charges, as the demoness sprints across the skyline and leaps towards the beast.
Their battle promises to be legendary.

Second Note: I had actually offered this Kaiju here a while back on Instagram a few months back, and it was just done yesterday, and oh man oh man, this Kaiju ended up being MORE than worth the wait, because he absolutely blew this thing out of the water, as it looks SO MUCH BETTER than what I originally offered him a while back, and the picture explains for itself.

And I explicitly stated that Dagozin was a Pacific Rim Kaiju OC from the very beginning, and ichoris_corruptra told me that he was going to do a few other Pacific Rim Kaiju requests in the future, and even though it will take some time, I know those will be worth the wait as well.

So yeah, now feel free to have a good look at Dagozin and tell me your thoughts about it.

Im makin a Pacific rim x Skibidi toilet series sorta, WAIT hear me out for a sec please

Post image
0 Upvotes

Im gonna make a pacific rim x skibidi toilet series, but since I cant do sfm animation bcz no experience and no pc, so im making it as a fanfic style thing since I dont exactly got another choice, anyways...

I want to have the titans as Jaegers, and not just the titan trio I want to include titans from other series's too like tye Prototype duo from Soundwave, Titan Signalman from Sakadung Apple, and more

I wont have the normal agents (minus some like scientist tv man and such, thatll have an explanation in lore but ill hopefully explain it if I decide to not get lazy and just stop at chapter 2 like I did with the Kamen rider Gavv x jjk thing I made last year)

I want the precursers being a former ally of the Astros and that they betrayed the Astro's with Gimmy, and the Skibidi virus isnt gonna be a prominant thing here bcz the skibidis will have a different goal bcz of the precursers, but theyll use it to recruit people into their army so like a city or 2 maybe, ill get to that if I again dont stop (I definitely will abruptly stop im lazy like that)

I want all the large agents of the Cameras, Speakers and Polycephaly be a thing still to deal with the Skibidis none Jaeger sized units, and have Signalmen there too as human size (well sorta, theyre 8ft tall like normal agents in og series) as spies and such too

And for the Pacific rim side, I wont have much names and name drops minus the ones from the movies for both ST Aand PR bcz thats too much for me I dont have that time

And the Jaegers will have a buff for upgrades too when Titans get theirs, ill explain it if I somehow get to that point

And Kaijus will also appear more often but with a Caveat ill explain it, again, IF I somehow get there

Ill be adding alot of extra lore and story here while combining both stories for the most part

And also, no Uprising, bcz how the war goes in my head, it aint ending in 2025😉 and the Astros will come in too in similar events too 74 but im not sure which way I should go about it however it will happen still

Alot more Jaegers will be surviving too and ill also bring in fanmade Kaiju and Jaegers like Azure defiant in it too since their cool, however for original Jaegers and Kaijus and Titans, uhm, Im lwk dumb af to be able to do that so who knows

Ive had this ides cooking in my head for literal years I NEED to get these ideas out of my head even if its not good im still doing it bcz I genuinely just want to do it

Im posting them in wattpad bcz, why not itd be funny but ill definitely be posting them here so hopefully thats fine to do since ive been wanting to do this for months now

DISCUSSION Which song best matches Kaiju Boy?

I was listening to these two songs yesterday, and I ended up realizing that they actually fit Kaiju Boy quite well.

Both songs share a common theme: about a "monstrous" side that a person tries to hide, its something like that.

Do you have another song suggestion that would go well with him?

FAN ART Category 7 Kaiju concept, originally by Ryonok (very old 2014 concept) and saved by Matt-T-Rex (aka me) on DeviantArt

Post image
33 Upvotes

This here, is Bokyaku, a very old Pacific Rim style Kaiju concept that was made by Ryonok, all the way back in 2014, when Pacific Rim was still very much new, and the buzz for it was still completely all over the place, and Bokyaku was originally stated to be a Category 7 Kaiju by Ryonok himself, and the size chart on the top right shows it is bigger than the Empire State Building (1,454 feet tall).

This is very much perfectly accurate now, because "Pacific Rim: Final Breach" had introduced Category 7 Kaijus, with the most prominent being the 1,575 foot tall Quadralith, whom Bokyaku here is nearly as huge as, and that therefore puts Bokyaku well within the size ranges for Category 7 Kaiju, if you take into account the exponential size increases we have seen in "Pacific Rim: Final Breach", as we have seen with Quadralith.

And it's for that reason, that I say that Bokyaku here was, therefore, likely a foreshadowing of things to come, all along, when it comes to truly massive Kaiju of Category 7 and higher, because now we have those Category 7s and Quadralith is apparently the most prominent one of that category level as of right now.

So yeah, I just really felt like sharing this very old 2014 piece here on this subreddit, so feel free to have a look whenever you can and tell me your thoughts about it, folks. 😉

DISCUSSION M-19 Morning Star

Thumbnail
gallery
235 Upvotes

Titan Redeemer's signature weapon.

I don't know about you, but I'm not a big fan of this weapon. I'm not going to lie, I think the concept of it being an ultra-destructive impact weapon is cool, but I don't think it's that good.

In the simulated fight against Onibaba, Titan throws the ball at him, but it ends up hitting the Kaiju's pincer and he suffers no damage; Worse yet, when the Jaeger attempts a straight right punch, Onibaba grabs it and strikes the top of the Jaeger’s head with its other pincer. Furthermore, since one of its hands is occupied solely by a ball—which I believe is nearly or entirely useless at close-quarters combat—Titan Redeemer is left completely defenseless in this scenario.

In the fight against the Mega Kaiju, Bracer Phoenix throws the ball at the creature, and he actually manages to cause some damage to the Kaiju, breaking one of its horns and leaving it slightly stunned. However, immediately afterward, at the exact moment Bracer retrieves the ball, the Kaiju lunges at him, bites his body, and begins to dismember him.

Perhaps I'm being a bit unfair, because the Jaegers were being controlled by teenagers with very little or no experience in real combat, so they ended up having somewhat poor attack choices and timing. Probably, with better and more experienced pilots, this ball could be put to better use.

Overall, I don't think the M-19 Morning Star is very good, because in certain situations, such as after attacks or in very close combat, it ends up leaving you quite vulnerable, despite theoretically being very destructive.

What do you think? Do you think I made a mistake about something?

Note: Decided to repost this Kaiju again later in the day.

If you want to repurpose this Kaiju as a true Pacific Rim Kaiju for an AU in mind, feel free to use these stats in this template below.

Codename:

Category: (you can go beyond 5 now, because Final Breach has Kaiju beyond Category 5 in it)

Height: (as tall as you'd please)

Weight: (as heavy as you'd want it to be)

Speed:

Strength:

Armor:

Behavior:

Toxicity:

Power:

Weakness: (perhaps slow speed might be one)

Note: You can make this Kaiju as big and as powerful as you can make it, now that "Pacific Rim: Final Breach" is out, with 2 more volumes on the way, plus, not to mention that the Serizawa Scale has already gone beyond the original 5 levels, and could go all the way up 10 levels in the future, therefore why not go all out?

Legendary listed Pacific Rim live action series in brochure at CLE

Thumbnail
gallery
126 Upvotes

This brochure is making the round on social media and is said to be from China Licensing Expo currently on in Shangahi. Could be fake, but the photos came from a trustworthy source. If this is real this is huge news, and very promsing after such a long time without any information on the show.

Purpose of the expo: It connects global and domestic brand owners, entertainment studios, and art/museum properties with manufacturers, licensees, and retailers to build commercial partnerships.

Purpose of brochure: By placing this brochure directly in front of corporate buyers at CLE, Legendary's clear operational goal is to ensure that action figures, high-end collectibles, and model kits are manufactured and ready to hit store shelves simultaneously with the show's streaming rollout.

What this all means: There has been no news on the series in over a year. When that happens it means they could be working hard planning it, it's in developmental hell, or it's going to be sheleved. Thankfully this news shows Legendary is advertising the product for collarbations. This is how companies get a license and example figure companies get an early start on designs to create merch. This is huge as Legendary wouldn't be asking companies to spend time and effort to start desgining on a project that would be cancelled. Not saying it couldn't be but this does mean it's moving forward.

In closing: This appears to be great news if the images are in fact real. Some of you may not follow all developments with the project but last year Amazon Head of Scripting management change caused quite the worry especially after the show runner Eric Heisserer made a comment in Janaury about he was unsure what was going to happen with the project.

Until Legendary actually makes it official always take anything like this with caution.

DISCUSSION Pacific Rim Prequel?

I've a couple mentions of a "confirmed" Pacific Rim prequel series that I had not known about previously. Is this something that we know is actually being developed currently? I can't hardly find any news on it and it appears to be another kind of forgotten project as far as I can tell. Is something we should actually be looking forward to or is it most likely dead?

MEME Fusion (Pretty Cure All Stars) vs Slattern (Pacific Rim) by Matt-T-Rex (aka myself) on DeviantArt.

Post image
11 Upvotes

Fusion is around 500-600 feet tall, and Slattern is about 596 feet tall just so you know.

For this match, Fusion and Slattern will just be using ONLY their physical brute strength against each other, therefore, there will be NO power or energy attacks allowed in this fight.

Pretty Cure belongs to Toei Animation.

Pacific Rim belongs to Warner Bros and Legendary.
