He Signed My Death, So I Left His World Forever
Chapter 1
My husband, Enzo Rosetti, had an adopted sister who was always causing trouble.
For the past seven or eight years, he'd cleaned up every mess she made.
Then she tampered with my car's safety system. My car was wrecked, and I barely survived the crash.
At the hospital, Enzo sighed as he signed a consent form.
"Don't blame Nina. She was just having fun. She wasn't actually trying to kill you."
"She knew I'd hired the best medical team for you. She just wanted to give you a scare."
He'd barely finished signing when Vincent, the family's consigliere, told him someone had upset Nina at a private nightclub downtown.
Enzo dropped his pen and rushed out.
He was in such a hurry that he didn't even notice he'd approved the wrong transfusion.
The System, silent for so long, suddenly activated.
[The male lead's mistake has triggered the final stage of your mission. The countdown begins now.]
I looked at the transfusion bag the nurse had brought over and smiled.
"Let's begin."
…
"Mrs. Rosetti, your transfusion is ready," the nurse said.
She checked the paperwork beside my bed.
"My husband signed everything himself?" I asked.
"Yes, Mrs. Rosetti."
I looked at Enzo's signature and fell silent.
The System's familiar, emotionless voice sounded in my head.
[Mission countdown activated.]
[Time remaining: 72 hours.]
Within half an hour, a sharp pain gripped my lower back.
Then the chills started. I pulled the blanket tightly around myself.
Just then, the hospital room door flew open, and Enzo strode in.
The smell of cologne and liquor clung to him, strong enough to make me nauseous. There were even a few cheap, brightly colored sequins stuck to the collar of his expensive, custom-made shirt.
Nina followed close behind, completely unharmed.
She wore a revealing sequined dress, her eyes still red. Clutching Enzo's sleeve, she looked like a frightened little girl.
"What's your problem this time?"
Enzo stopped beside my bed and looked down at me, his expression tight with impatience.
"The doctor said you only had a few minor injuries. Who's all this shaking supposed to fool?"
I gritted my teeth through another agonizing wave of pain in my lower back. Cold sweat had broken out across my forehead.
