Deidra’s P.O.V. ******************************* There have been a lot of moments in my life that have rendered me speechless. When I was 10, and walked out of the bathroom at school with my skirt tucked into my underwear, and was called out about it in front of the entire class. When I was 13, and got slapped across the face in the cafeteria during lunch by the head cheerleader for apparently looking at her boyfriend with heart-eyes. When I was 16, and was told by the principal of my school that my parents, my only family, had died in a car accident. And right now. At age 24, watching my best friend of 20 years and my boyfriend of five years, fuc.king. In my apartment. In my bed. Together. Let’s back up a little bit before we jump into this fu.cking mess. ********************* ~ Earlier that day ~ ********************* “Why are you calling me so early in the morning?” Sophie, my best friend, answered her phone. “It’s after 9 a.m.,” I said with a laugh. “Yeah, too early,” she grumbled. “It’s Thursday,” I said, chuckling. “Did you go out in the middle of the week?” I heard Sophie yawn and some shuffling going on before she answered me. “Yeah, was at that new club that opened up a couple of towns over,” she replied, still sounding tired. “Necto?” I asked with a frown as I put the finishing touches on the Christmas display in the front window of my shop. Santa Baby is playing softly in the background. Christmas is my favorite time of year. We might not get snow here in Dayton, Teneesee, but the Christmas spirit is very much alive. I own Garden Sip. It’s my dream, my baby. I’ve wanted this place for as long as I can remember, and about a year ago, it became official. Garden Sip is a flower/plant shop and a café. We live in a small town in Tennessee, and there isn’t much here. There is definitely not a lowkey café that offers free Wi-Fi and allows you to be surrounded by the beauty of nature. There are a couple of coffee shops and a Starbucks, but I think we bring something fun to the table, here at Garden Sip. I still sell flowers and plants too. We’ve even done two weddings so far. I have a few regular customers. Like Jim who comes in to buy his wife flowers every single Friday. I also have my regular coffee-goers. Alice and Steven are here daily. Steven does some kind of web designer stuff. 

Chapter 1: Chapter 1: No One Can Escape

“W-why?”

Crimson blood seeped through her fingers. Nina Jacobs clutched her stabbed abdomen, staring in disbelief at the boyfriend who had once shared life and death with her.

She had just survived a battle, her Superpower and stamina completely drained. At this moment, she had no strength to fight back.

“Nina Jacobs, we’ve helped you far too much,

The position of base leader should have been mine.”

A flicker of conflict crossed Liam Grant’s eyes, but it was quickly replaced by cold indifference.

“Renee, save me.”

Nina Jacobs reached out to her friend, Renee Strong.

Renee Strong was an Advanced Healer. If she used her Superpower to treat the wound, it would heal in no time.

But Renee Strong walked over to Liam Grant instead.

“Liam, should I save her or not?”

Liam Grant wrapped his arm around Renee Strong’s waist as she looked at Nina Jacobs with a mocking gaze.

“We’ve put up with her for long enough. It’s time to end this.”

Liam Grant replied.

“So you two really are together.”

Nina Jacobs looked at the other four people in the room.

It was the fifth year of the apocalypse.

She had always considered them her companions.

But as her gaze swept over them, not a single person was willing to help her.

“Nina Jacobs, if we hadn’t been with you through thick and thin, you would’ve died long ago,

I was just having a little fun with a few women, and you dared to break my legs?!”

“Julian Shaw! Open the door!” Julian opened his eyes in silence. The aftershock of being killed by the heavenly tribulation still burned through his bones. He had died. Then he had come back. And when he opened his eyes, not only had the world changed, but even his own species had shifted as well. He was now Julian Shaw, the third son by blood of the powerful Whitmore family on the capital world of the Solara System. A male Beta. Yes. In this ridiculous universe, there were actually six secondary sexes. Rare Omegas possessed highly powerful healing psychic abilities and could carry children regardless of biological sex. Terrifying Alphas had brutal physical strength, immense psychic power, and could impregnate others regardless of biological sex. Then there were lots of Betas like him, who worked hard, lived normally, and remained painfully ordinary no matter what their biological sex was. As an independent cultivator, Julian respected it but simply couldn’t understand it. The pounding on the door made this body shake on instinct. Julian felt weak, feverish, and so dizzy that he almost thought he was about to ascend again. Unfortunately, the people outside had no intention of leaving him alone. “Julian Shaw! Stop hiding in there like a coward! You had the guts to lose your mind on the academy forum, so why don’t you have the guts to open the—” The door was yanked open. The lackey hammering on it lost his balance and pitched forward. Luckily, he was an Alpha. He quickly caught himself and snapped, “What the hell is wrong with you?” Julian blinked, then gave him a strangely approving look. “Plenty.” The Alpha froze. “?” Not just him. Every student gathered behind him to watch the commotion froze as well. Then the crowd parted, and Tristan Whitmore, Julian’s second elder brother, stepped forward. He wore a black-and-gold uniform and looked down at Julian with open contempt. “Julian, don’t think pulling this stunt will make me put you on the team. And you’d better stop having ideas about Caelan. Elias is his fiancé.” Memories unfolded in Julian’s mind like pages turning over. With the strength of his soul, he absorbed all the original owner’s memories in an instant. Oh. So this was a melodramatic switched-at-birth story. A poor kid had clawed his way into the Imperial Military Academy through sheer effort and talent, only to discover his biological family. Unfortunately, his parents and brothers doted on Elias Whitmore, the fake young heir, instead. Worse, Elias had taken his identity, his resources, and had even become engaged to Caelan Rookwood, the Alpha the original owner had been in love with. The midterm field assessment was coming up, and the original owner had finally gotten a chance to join a team with his second brother and his crush. He had rushed over eagerly. They pretended to agree to take him right to his face. Then removed his name from the list the moment he turned away. That had been the final blow. The original owner took pills and posted on the academy forum that he no longer wanted to live.
