West bank - found the cutest dog

Found near Oakwood mall. In a business area. I walked out to feed my cats dinner and it was like, what’s up? I’m a cat too. Scanned and no chip, no collar. Not getting any traction on the lost and found facebook page. Too sweet to not belong to someone. Does not understand what personal space is. Was very very hungry. Stinky and shedding everywhere but fairly clean. Going to hang out with me tonight (and royally piss off my cats). In the morning we’ll head to JPAWS. Honestly, if I was going to get a dog, this dog is perfection. I know someone has to be missing them.

Outside kittycats I’m heartbroken to leave behind

I have to move unexpectedly in the next few days and there’s this tuxedo and this gray kitty that have become friendly and stay at the steps. I do not want to leave them. One was fixed via TNVR (ear-tipped) but I never caught the others (there’s 4 regulars). We caught more possums than cats. Animal control can take the ones not ear tipped.

I’ve been feeding them for almost 6 months now, and this house will be vacant until sold. There’s only businesses on both sides but there are other residences the house backs up to but not sure anyone else is feeding them. I’m going to see what neighbors will talk with me about them over the next few days. I will keep them stocked with food if they will feed them.

This tuxedo stays in a box I fashioned for it, I wash the sheet and towel every day I keep inside it. If anyone has ideas, please let me know ❤️

🏢 Employment 👷‍♂️ Nurse looking for a way out

Hey y'all,

Apologies if this isn't accepted here but I figured why not try.

I guess to start, I have been in the medical field (specifically surgery) at a well known facility for 10 years, and have been an RN for 7. Things were bleak back then, and have only worsened since. I did travel nursing for a couple years and that was nice, but it's not feasible anymore.

I'm just curious, are there any nurses in the area who have moved on to other things and are happy with the move? Does anyone know of any fields where nursing translates well? I fear that my skill set and adaptability would transfer to a lot of things, but I've pigeonholed myself into the medical field.

I don't know. I know I'm lucky to have a steady job. So maybe just disregard this as a midlife crisis/rant, but man am I burnt out.

Living Here TDIL NOPD Deputy Chief intentionally didnt put GPS in police vehicles

Because of concerns officers could be tracked by records requests to show payroll fraud or other types of fraudulent activity.

The official excuse is, of course, it could jeopardize officer safety and compromise investigations.

So while law enforcement is expanding mass surveillance on citizens, they are shrinking it on themselves.

Food & Drink 🍽️ Cheap lunch deals under $15

I’m looking for some good cheap lunch deals preferably $15 and under for a side and a drink too or under $10 and under for just an entree. Do those exist anymore or am I living under a rock? Preferably in the Midcity- ish area but more than willing to venture out.

📰 News RTA board selects Justin Augustine III as CEO

Following a contentious, months-long search, the New Orleans Regional Transit Authority on Tuesday (Oct. 27) selected Justin Augustine III to be the next CEO of the agency.

The vote caps off a lengthy process to find a new leader for the agency following the resignation of former CEO Lona Edwards Henkins in May. The search process drew scrutiny from Mayor Helena Moreno, who made remaking the transit agency a priority early on in her term, reconstituting the board earlier this year and, at one point, advocating for more local candidates during the CEO search.

Augustine previously ran the RTA while it was under the private management of French transportation conglomerate Transdev, helping the agency to recover after much of its infrastructure was damaged or destroyed during Hurricane Katrina.

”Mr. Augustine came with a perspective and a set of talent that was just unmatched,” said Ann Duplessis, who is the chair of the RTA Board of Commissioners and was among the four commissioners who voted for Augustine.

Augustine beat out two other candidates for the job: Mark Major, a former deputy CEO of the agency, who left in 2024; and Reginald Mason, a Louisiana native currently at the helm of the Greensboro Transit Agency in North Carolina.

Augustine will inherit an agency that has financially rebounded since its transition to self-management in 2019, but one that is still struggling to increase ridership and reliability of service.

Recommendations Spectrum internet experience in New Orleans?

Has anyone signed up with Spectrum for fiber internet service? I got a letter in the mail offering $30 fiber-powered internet-- this price is less than half of what I'm paying for AT&T, and I get regular outages with AT&T (not official outages; just, the internet not working...). I certainly don't want to go from bad to worse, though. I do remember having Cox, and AT&T is so much better than Cox...

Recommendations Community Feedback Opportunity for a Study taking place at the ACC

TLDR: New Orleanians, Theater People, and those who may or may not get annoyed at the term "swirl", help make sure the Ivory tower isn't so far up my butt that I am making some seriously misguided assumptions. I'll feed you and nod my head a lot in thanks. I'll even throw in musing about markers of stress and talk your ear off about spit/saliva/hair....

....but only if you're into that type of thing.

Hey Y'all,

This coming Thursday and Friday evening (Oct 29th and 30th), the André Cailloux Center for Performing Arts and Cultural Justice (ACC), in collaboration with the Community Center Bookstore and MOSAIC Lab (University of Arkansas), will be hosting a discussion in preparation for IRB submission for a study involving couples dyads and psychosocial stress, community meaning-making of controversial art, and actor stress/care when engaging with racially charged material.

The event is over two nights and includes dinner each night and a free copy of the play (local pick-up only). We ask that the play be read beforehand (takes less than an hour). You don't have to attend both nights but we are hoping folks will.

Anyone is welcome to sign-up, however, we're particularly interested in folks from or currently living New Orleans, people who have been in an interracial relationship involving at least one Black/African American partner, and/or theater peeps (actors, stage hands, etc).*

This is NOT a study. It's a planned community session before IRB submission to give people in the community a chance to provide feedback on the play and planned study protocol. There will be no recordings or formal record-keeping of the discussion (IRB cleared, for those wondering).

There are still some spots available, and if you are wondering about the play in question, it's Slave Play by Jeremy O. Harris (no affiliation with the study).

Feel free to send me a direct message if you have any questions or I'll respond here as well.

LINK TO SIGN UP!

Edits:

  1. Typos, I'm a psychoneuroendocrinologist, not an English major damnit.
  2. * A bit of clarification. From New Orleans but living elsewhere and here soaking in the Halloween joy this week? Sign-Up. Been living here only a month but aren't going anywhere? Sign-up. An actor, stage-hand, or theater student? PLEASE Sign-up (with cherries on top). Uncle still mad at you behind who you brought home that one year for Thanksgivings and/or decided to marry? You sign-up too.

Edit two: It is IN PERSON, no zoom option this go around.

Chime in fam! (Fiber finally!?)

Post image
• Upvotes

It seems my area of the LGD finally has a fiber cable option. So who’s got first hand experience with this company? Are they legit? Does the internet drop out constantly? Do they secretly throttle speeds?

The bar is so low with cox that im not sure it even matters. I would take anything else that’s comparably fast to get away from Cox, but I don’t want to get scammed either.
