Silencer Shop Suppressor Trade In

Howdy r/NFA!
If you have old cans sitting around that you dont shoot anymore, or would rather get something new, we can help you out!

Silencer Shop now has a trade-in program where we will give you Silencer Shop credit for your used suppressors.

We can't link (thanks Big Tech) but add /suppressor-trade-in to the site URL and you'll find everything you need. You can also find the trade-in portal in your Silencer Shop dashboard under NFA Vault.

First 4473 Can

This is number 31 for me. I did my last can on a Form 4 just to hit 30. Honestly, with the current wait times, I barely noticed a difference. That said, if it makes the process easier for the average person, I’m all for it.

Nuances of the HK USP45 Tactical and Silencer-Height Sights

Post image
• Upvotes

Been carrying and practicing with the the Wright Armory milled system for about three months now and I really like it. I do enjoy shooting it suppressed at the end of my practice sessions. The Ti-RANT 45 is just so cool.

Recently, Sol at Rooftop did the whole green frame thing again with HK and this time I knew about it so I was able to snag the first one from him - shout out to Rooftop; they are awesome. I figured it would be cool to have a backup USP, for reasons.

This resulted in a serendipitous demonstration photo I was happy to be able to show some folks. If you're a silencer nerd and a silencer user that has a USP45 tactical with iron sights, you may notice a difference between the LEO version of the gun (silencer-height night sight equipped) and the regular Tactical SKU (blacked-out silencer-height sights).

The height of the regular blacked-out front sight blade is higher than that of the night sight front sight blade. I knew this before and bought a spare blacked out blade, thinking I was going to replace the night sight blade in my carry gun slide, but before I could do that, I sent off a spare slide to Wright and had it machined for an RMR and here we are. But now that I have the green blacked out sight gun, comparing it side by side, yeah, the blacked out sights are taller.

I first noticed this when making the transition from MK23 to USP45T shooting suppressed with the KAC and AAC silencers. The MK23 iron sights are superior to the USP sights in both visibility and usability with silencers. The USP45T night sights will barely clear a Ti-RANT 45. The blacked out sights clear it more, but still not as awesome a sight picture as a MK23.

I do believe this gun deserves a red dot. Really makes it sing. Been very happy with the RMR HD, very happy with the gun as a daily carry, really works well with custom Kydex, and that Surfire X300V is the bomb too.

Hope this information helps you HK guys out there!

Discussion I Created a Table of the Whole 11.5" 5.56 AR Market

The Complete 11.5" Table

In my pursuit to understand what my options were, I decided to make a table. Of everything. The table contains, to my best ability, all complete guns, complete uppers, barrels, and suitable handguards currently offered, with links. I include all the important info like price, weight, barrel info, gas systems, buffers, BCGs, handguards, upper & lower receivers, etc. I also include my own personal thoughts and notes, which you can take or leave as you see fit.

I believe this will be helpful to the community at large to get an idea of who makes what and what our options are.

Please let me know if I missed something or if something new gets introduced, as I will keep updating this table accordingly.

All the best!

Tisha 556 Inconel vs OCL Infinity 556K (and Universe 36) - not what you think

I did back to back testing on the MK18 with both the 556K (using the 3-hole partial vented cap) and the Inconel Tisha. The Tisha was a tad quieter and softer shooting but the Infinity 556K is my fave/recommendation. Slightly gassier but far more consistent grouping at 100yd. The Tisha seemed to have more windage shift while the Infinity had less of a POI shift and more consistent grouping.

If I had to guess from the seat of my ears the Polonium and 556K were about on par for sound which is damn good for the MK18. I was pleasantly surprised by the 556K. The weight wasn't bad at all as both were about the same. I have a bunch of other OCL Cans so I may be biased but it's a solid recommendation. If I had to do it again I'd skip the Tisha. The Infinity just seemed to be made to better quality. Was able to find a Rearden Titanium Atlas Gen 2 that gave it dead center concentricity and the Cerakote was durable. I tried two Rearden XL, 3 Gen 1 Atlas and only the Gen 2 Titanium was dead center. I recall reading OCL at one point did 100% QC on concentricity for the Polonium a long time ago. Not sure if they still do it but I’ve generally had great luck with their cans being made well.

Tisha Cerakote is flaking just from handling it not unlike my Onega 36M and I went through a dozen HUB Plan B adapters and only found two that got it kind of close to center alignment. The shallow blast chamber depth means I need to run an XL / Comstock HPA to clear the 3P15 longer flash hider.

Just overall wasn’t super impressed with the Tisha at that price point. Not a big deal as I like to try different cans on different hosts all the time. The 556K is definitely near GOAT status with the Polonium. I like the Infinity 7.62 but its weight makes it more suited for my bolt guns or special applications with the OCL MBEC (which I have as well)

I also ran the Universe 36 with 9mm vented cap on the 13" AK 7.62x39, saw some flames out the end but it was the least gassy and it still made it quiet and recoil far less than without a can. Andrew was spot on with the recommendation for using the 9mm vented cap with the AK. This is a can I don’t mind keeping on the VEPR 24/7/365 as it’s loud and flashy on the MK18 and Spears.

Recently inherited this old Springfield 84C (mfg by Stevens) from my stepdad and have put an irrational amount of time and money into it.
I’m really happy with how it turned out, basically exactly how I pictured it.
Full strip/clean, wear parts replaced, stock reshaped and refinished, re-blued, chopped/threaded to 9.75”, CAT SR can, Williams target sights, Seekins SRS rail, restored leather sling also from my stepdad

NCD: FTW OG 22LR

Post image
19 Upvotes

This is a $99 22LR-only suppressor.

An aluminum blast baffle inside a 3D printed polymer can. 1.3" diameter, 6.5" long. 3.77 ounces on my scale.

When I picked it up, I immediately shot it back-to-back-to-back with my OG Scorpius and EA NYX Mod2. All hosted on my Volquartsen Mamba X, shooting CCI SV ammo.

It was an indoor range and I was wearing ear muffs, so I cannot make very specific statements about how they compare.

I CAN say that it was definitely in the same ballpark as the other 2. Anyone that just wants a 22LR suppressor and doesn't care if it will handle any other cartridges or if it is the absolute QUIETEST one out there should absolutely consider one of these. I am very confident that it is quiet enough that I will be totally fine shooting it outdoors with no ear protection.

And did I mention it was only $99? lol!

Oh, I do think it has one downside worth noting. It is a little fatter than either of my other two. It is 1.3" diameter. The other two are 1". That makes it stick up high enough that it *might* interfere with use of iron sights. Depending on the gun, of course.

Been wanting a 22lr suppressor for a while. The tiger 22 seemed like a solid option, and I found it on sale for $275. After tax, shipping, transfer fee it was around $350. Still atleast $50 less than $400 price tag I’ve seen at local gun stores near me (gun store I had it shipped to had the same can for $459). Wish it was the black version but oh well

S&W Shield Plus Suppressed Notes - PTR Vent 2, ECCO TLX, HUX/OSS Rad 9

TL;DR
Shield Plus and the OG Shield 1.0 ran flawlessly with all three cans without tuning but the Vent 2 ran the smoothest. No recoil spring changes were needed. Ammo was standard 115gr FMJ American Eagle and CCI Blazer 147gr flat nose.

A friend brought her Shield 1.0 (the OG) and I had been building up a second Shield Plus slide to run on hers so she can shoot suppressed and with a red dot. So I grabbed a pair of OEM S&W threaded Shield Plus barrels, as well as Resilient Titanium 1/2-28 pistons (was trying to reduce as much weight as possible) and used the lightest pistol cans I could find since I heard these sub-compact pistols can be finnicky.

Turns out the best can to run was the PTR vent 2. Far less backpressure, soft shooting, absolute tack driver, minimal sparking, and I think I finally cleared the titanium dust after 3 ultrasonic cleanings. Zero malfunctions.

The TLX was the gassiest of course. I prefer the TLX on the Vector and PCCs. The Rad 9 was kind of heavy and didn't seem to reduce the gas all that much but I'd run it. The Vent 2 was just overall nicer to shoot.

Both slides didn't have any issues suppressed. I also ran her pistol with my slide, and switched it up.

Ran it with CCI Blazer 147gr flat nose as well as Federal 115gr FMJ. No issues suppressed.

I did upgrade the Shield 1.0 with OEM parts over the years. Turns out the Shield and Shield Plus share pretty much the same parts except the mags. I installed the angled striker, flat Shield Plus trigger, Apex sear on the Shield 1.0 and saw her groups and consistency improve dramatically. Slides were interchangeable as well. I was thinking of the fastest way for her to try a red dot and shoot suppressed on her pistol

Mount Questions 🔩 Plan B for a Rossi LWC .357, and FM9, will be used with an OCL Lithium 9 can. Question from a rookie.

I'd like to share the Lithium between both the .357 LWC single action rifle and my incoming FM9. Both the LWC and FM9 are 1/2x28 threads. I have been looking at the Comstock compact muzzle brake, I was thinking of putting one of those on each firearm. Would those work for me with my Lithium 9, the L9 says it has a hub attachment? Would a different size length or style brake benefit my LWC or FM9?

Thank you in advance, I really have been frying my brain trying to google the correct terms and such but decided it was best to ask here since most likely someone is doing exactly what I was planning to do with the same hosts, hopefully.

Mount Questions 🔩 Question regarding anti-seize on locking/tapered QD mounts

Would Permatex 24125 (ceramic brake parts lubricant) or a similar high temp, metal-free/ceramic-base lubricant or anti-seize be a good choice to apply to a suppressor mount? (on the QD mount, not on the barrel threads).

I have a HUXWRX Flow 556k (mounted on their helical QD Flash Hider) and recently took it to the range but now I cannot take it off my rifle. After I manage to take it off while it’s hot (next time I go to the range), I was wondering if I should apply anything to the QD mount to prevent this from happening. I should probably also get into the habit of backing off my suppressor before letting it cool down so it doesn’t lock up again.
