Rec.Me: rock/metal/punk Witchy-sounding Riot Grrl songs for my Halloween costume?

I’m going as the hex girls from scooby doo and I think rock with female vocals or riot grrl songs would be perfect to post with the costume. I like the vibe of dazey and the scouts, metric, or destroy boys. But I’m open to any suggestions of the same vibe.

My playlist is getting stale and my ears are open to pretty much anything short of bro country, so hit me!

Rec.Me: theme/mood/other specifics songs that hit different when you're going through a rough mental health period?

i'm looking for stuff that feels honest about struggling without being like, aggressively depressing if that makes sense. things that acknowledge things are hard but don't just wallow in it. open to any genre really, just want music that gets it.

Any genre is fine, my favorites though are industrial/metal, underground rap, deep house & indie pop/rock

Anything under the u. rap or metal umbrellas would be extra appreciated though. Thanks

Rec.Me: theme/mood/other specifics Need song recommendations for a Halloween playlist for kids but one child is VERY sensitive to scary or spooky stuff

So I was gathering songs for my upcoming Halloween party, the ages there range from 4 to 11. But one girl, who's 8 and maybe on the spectrum, is VERY easily scared by "scary" or "spooky" stuff. She doesn't like Thriller because of the howling wolf at the beginning. She's scared of the Ghostbusters song.. Maybe because of a scary association like she heard it playing in a Halloween store when she was little. She's ok with monster mash, I've added season of the witch, werewolves of London, a few random kids songs and mostly the rest is like instrumentals that are Halloween ish but not scary ones. But it's hard to figure this out. Because all the best songs have a spooky element to them . And I don't want stuff that is for LITTLE kids either like baby shark Halloween edition, I don't want annoying stuff, which most of the little kids stuff is. I don't mind adding a few non Halloween songs in there. But I'm wondering if there's any good neutral Halloween songs, safe for kids, safe for this sensitive child, but on theme and fun.

Rec.Me: other/many/unknown genres Indie/emotional songs with similar progression to these artists/songs

I’m very picky about music and I don’t even know how to describe my taste. I’m looking for songs that progress, have similar themes, and melody as bands like “Ludo” and “Black Pontiac” I specifically enjoy the “you’re awful, I love you” album by Ludo.

I also listen to “Bear Ghost”. They don’t exactly fit with what’s described in the title.

Good examples of what I’m looking for would be songs like “School Girls” by Black Pontiac, “Please” by Ludo, and “Haunt, The Cartoon Heart” by Bear Ghost.

It’s not necessarily the genre that matters for me, it’s more about the pace and melody of the song.

I hope this makes sense, I’m very high rn I appreciate and will listen to all recommendations.

My main playlist consists of 10 songs that I play and even when i do I still skip a couple from time to time. I wish for more variety please and thank you.

Rec.Me: theme/mood/other specifics Looking for songs that talk about missing out on experiences that people your age typically would have/would have already had.

The context is that I'm in a relationship where my partner (and I'm completely empathetic and supportive btw) is in a space where they no longer want to leave the house/do anything. We've been together 2.5 years - haven't travelled, they don't work anymore so are low income, I yearn to travel and want to go to events or things together but she just mentally isn't up to it. I feel like I'm missing out and this is finding me back from enjoyable and fun experiences that I want to do. I don't have friends either and the music events I want to go to, she once would have but it puts her in a situation where there are dr*gs around (which is dangerous for her).
Idk maybe I'm being selfish but I'm nearly 30 and all I do is work and rot and I feel stuck.

Rec.Me: rock/metal/punk What genre would you even consider this and how do I find more like it?

I like that this album sounds like it was all recorded in one take/improvised (idk if it actually was) but it just seems very loose/unorganized/random in a good way, specifically the vocals. Its like someone had an idea of a song then just went with it in the moment and it works. Anything else with this vibe?

Just watched this Sunday evening and wow, what a film... due in no small part to its OST. I need more 60s/70s psychedelic pagan folk injected straight into my veins. Please help me.

Rec.Me: electronic/dance Recommend songs to me that sound similar if not exactly like Cancer by Meat Beat Manifesto

Looking for the same mysterious ominous key vibe. The sound after the sentence “this is cancer” gets me so in the mood but don’t ask me what mood it gets me in there’s a lot to unpack

Rec.Me: alt/indie/obscure Songs about yearning from 1977 or earlier?

In the vibe of these lyrics, please:

“your eyes are like torches/your presence is bliss/I never knew time/could speed and zip like this/the touch of your flesh/is tough to resist/planets collide, collide, collide/at the smack of your kiss”

Thank you for any suggestions you can provide me. 🙏

Rec.Me: alt/indie/obscure Songs about unrequited love, yearning, when the other person doesn't even know you exist.

Hey everyone, looking for songs about loving someone who doesn't even know you exist, or knows who you are, but doesn't really know you or notice you.

Preferrable genres would be indie, alternative, altrock, postpunk, but mainly looking for tracks that capture that feeling of invisible/unrequited and delusional longing from afar. Thanks!!

Rec.Me: singers, vocal songs (pop/other) Need a song like Bright Future in Sales by Fountais of Wayne

I'm looking for songs about the despair of being a cog in the machine under capitalism, but ideally in an upbeat goofy way. I'm open to any genre!

Examples:

Bright Future in Sales by Fountains of Wayne

Just Around the Corner by Beach Bunny

Monopoly Money by Moon Walker

9 to 5 by Dolly Parton, RIP

Hi! I'm not sure if I'm describing the mood really well but to me doomed/tragic love fits best as description haha.

I'm looking for songs with a similar vibe to Eternity (Alex Warren), Where you're coming from and Fair to you (Vincent Lima) and Daylight (David Kushner), to name a few I'm obsessed with atm

Rec.Me: theme/mood/other specifics Looking for “Christmas but not Christmas” Songs

Songs where Christmas is a main theme, but the song isn’t a traditional Christmas song necessarily. Like “merry Christmas please don’t call” by the bleachers or “last Christmas” by wham. Can be any genre and any time period though!

Edit: thanks for all the recs, everybody! I’ll check them all out, and make a playlist of all of them which I’ll link later if anyone wants to use it

Rec.Me: theme/mood/other specifics Songs about not letting the gossips, rumor spreaders, and bastards get to you?

Bastards and Let 'Em Talk by Kesha are two good examples.

"Don't let the bastards get you down, don't let the assholes wear you out."

"Shake that ass, don't care if they're talking about us!"

"Don't let those losers take your magic, baby."
