Question AI makes the first draft faster, but what about the 17 rounds of revisions?

• Upvotes

AI motion is getting pretty impressive, ngl.

But what happens when a client wants one tiny thing changed? Like adjusting the timing, tweaking the easing, or keeping everything else exactly the same.

Are we actually saving time, or just getting to the annoying part faster lol

Curious if anyone's using AI for real client work. How are you handling revisions?

Discussion Even professional are claiming that AI does motion better than people.

• Upvotes

So for context I'm an associate motion designer and it's been 2 months since I started working. And in just 2 months I've seen AI become so good that it feels like it can do most of what I can do. And now a famous influencer called ginny boy who I used to admire openly claimed in his recent video that AI does motion design better than most people. I'm just starting out so it feels pretty daunting when someone you used to follow says that. So every senior here, is the statement true that AI does motion better than people now?

Question What is one motion design trick you wish more people knew?

I have been admiring the work in this sub for a while and I am trying to learn. I am curious what small trick or habit has made the biggest difference in your motion work. Could be timing, easing, color, sound, anything. I would love to hear what you all swear by.

Question School of Motion deactivated my account after a homework review — has anyone experienced this?

• Upvotes

Hi everyone,

I'm looking for advice from anyone who has experienced something similar with School of Motion.

My account was deactivated effective immediately after a teaching assistant review raised concerns that some of my homework submissions were not my own work.

I've invested a lot of time, effort, and money into my courses, and this situation has been really stressful. I've already emailed their support team and am waiting for a response.

I'm not here to argue about their policies. I genuinely want to understand whether anyone else has faced a similar situation.

  • Has your School of Motion account ever been suspended or deactivated over homework submissions?
  • Did you appeal the decision?
  • Were you able to get your account reinstated or regain access to your courses and certificates?

If you've experienced this personally, I'd really appreciate hearing what happened. Feel free to DM me if you'd prefer to discuss it privately.

Thank you.

Hi everyone! I'm a beginner and currently learning by following tutorials. I don't always replicate them exactly, so sometimes I add my own creative touches. Do you think it's okay to include a video like this in my portfolio? I would really appreciate your honest feedback and constructive criticism

Question Two versions of the same animated skyline, day and night: looking for detailed critique

Two short animated scenes made in code, same city at two times of day (clip A and clip B). I'm after real critique, not ratings:

  1. What place and time does each one feel like? Who lives there?
  2. Where does your eye go first? Is there anything that pulls attention in a bad way, or that you never noticed at all?
  3. Colour: what works and what feels off? Be as specific as you can.
  4. Depth: does the distance from the mountains to the street feel real? Which layer is weakest?
  5. Movement: calm, or is anything too fast or distracting?
  6. Would you leave it running on a second screen for an hour? Why or why not?
  7. One change you'd make to each.

Detailed answers are what I'm hoping for. I'll read every one.

Question Just started freelancing and thinking about offering hybrid AI + human motion design. Is this where things are going?

I lost my in-house motion design job a month ago and just started out on my own. The market isn’t going back to what it was, so I’d rather build something that still makes sense in a few years than wait for the old way of working going back.

What I’m considering offering is a hybrid setup: AI does the groundwork, I finish it by hand. It runs through an MCP into After Effects, so the AI builds the comps, layers and a first rough blockout directly in my project, and I’m training my own custom MCP on how I work so that starting point already looks like something I’d have set up myself. From there I do the part that decides whether it’s any good: timing, easing, design changes, the details that make it feel deliberate instead of generated.

My two actual questions, and I’d really like to hear it from people doing this for a living:

1. Do you think the industry is genuinely moving this way? Is a hybrid workflow something you’ll need to have in a year or two?

2. How far would you sell it as a USP? Lead with it, mention it only when asked, or keep it out of the conversation entirely? It’s honest and it explains my turnaround and my price, but to a client who doesn’t know the difference it could just as easily read as AI slop with a human rubber stamp. If you already work this way, I’m curious how clients actually react when it comes up.

Mostly curious whether anyone here is already working like this, and how you position your services because of it. Do you name it, or do you just quietly deliver faster?

No links, nothing to sell. Just trying to get others within the industry their opinion before committing to anything.

Project Showcase My first animated short, wordless, about impulse buying. Would love feedback

This is the first cartoon I’ve ever finished. I’m a motion designer, so I’ve done a lot of After Effects work, but never character animation before.

The character art and backgrounds were generated with AI. I cut them into parts, rigged them as paper puppets in After Effects and did all the animation myself: the walks, the timing, the acting. The walk cycle alone took me way longer than I’d like to admit.

I’d really appreciate any feedback, especially on the movement and timing. What reads well, what feels stiff, where it drags. I want the next one to be better.

Storyboarded & designed using AE/Premiere/Calvalry then risograph printed through approximately 6000 scanned frames, endless contact sheets, variations between 2-4 colour passes, a million misregistrations. Would love to know your thoughts :-)

Discussion anyone else somehow has like 15 personal design projects and nothing they actually wanna put in their portfolio 😭

this is something ive been thinking about because its such a weird problem

coming up with projects isnt really the issue

its finishing one without deciding halfway through that you could make something way better lol

like you start a branding project

then halfway through youre like actually the direction is kinda shit

change it

find another reference

change fonts

maybe redo the whole identity

then you get another idea that feels way cleaner so now youre working on that instead

3 months later youve technically done a ton of design work but somehow your portfolio looks exactly the same 💀

client work seems different because someone is waiting for it and eventually it HAS to be delivered

but personal projects can basically stay in revision forever

curious how you guys deal with that

do you give personal projects fake deadlines?

do you force yourself to ship even when you know you could improve it?

or are you constantly abandoning stuff too

genuinely curious how many unfinished personal projects are sitting in everyones folders rn
