trigger warning: graphic description Is this normal?

I took my dose of misoprostol Friday night 8:45. Cramps and bleeding started around 11:45pm/12am, became increasingly more intense. The pain and bleeding with clots lasted all day Saturday. Sunday, woke up in what felt like MORE pain it lasted a majority of the day but bleeding/clots were minimal. I did feel like there was something that needed to be pushed out but couldnt manage for that to happen. Sunday late afternoon I started to feel a bit of relief, still not much bleeding. This morning (Monday) woke up at 5, went to the bathroom, felt the urge to push and then a lime sized ball of tissue came out… is it normal for it to take that long for it to come out?

I can’t even trust what my dr said. “Just a heavier period” my a**!!!!!! That felt more like being in labour for 2 damn days. They told me it would just be a lot of clots but unless they’re bigger than my fist it’s fine. That was very obviously the sac, etc.
how freaking traumatizing 😭

I also passed the gestational sack after miso for a 9 week MMC on the fourth or fifth day when much of the bleeding (with clots) and cramping had subsided. I was in touch with my OBGYN who has a slightly "wait and see, bodies can take their own time" attitude and she didn't seem particularly surprised. The internet made me think it would happen sooner, but in its own time, everything came out in my case.

Yeah I had seen that it’s “supposed to happen” within the first 8 hours after miso so i was shocked that it took longer than 48 hours. I do feel a lot better physically today which is nice I guess.
Did you have an ultrasound to make sure after?
Thank you for sharing your experience and I’m sorry for your loss ❤️

Glad you feel better physically, at least. I did have an ultrasound. It was scheduled for one week after, but then I got all triggered an unhappy to go back in the room where I had learned there was no live baby and there was a young man as the tech. My OBGYN was sympathetic and said I could just watch for signs of infection, but I ended up coming back a week later on my own. It is nice for peace of mind if available to you.

I do have an appt for next Monday to go back but I’m struggling for that same reason on if I should go or not. I truly don’t feel like going back there and possibly having the same resident that has absolutely no compassion but I would like to know everything is cleared. I may call and ask if they could send me to a community clinic rather than the hospital. I’m glad to hear your OB was sympathetic to why you didn’t want to go

It's real! It's funny, I was cool in the waiting room, but when they opened the door to the ultrasound room and I saw the young man (who I didn't know, but I didn't feel like explaining), I was OUT. Left the building, then felt silly, so met with my OB anyway. She actually told me she caught her own missed miscarriage in the same ultrasound room a few years before even though she gets her medical care elsewhere. And then she didn't want to go in there either but it was part of her workplace. So not just sympathetic, she really got it. When I went back the following week I got the same ultrasound tech who caught the miscarriage, and who was nice, so that felt full circle. If community clinic feels better, it sounds great to ask for that. I realized in the following week that while I had no signs of infection, I couldn't close the chapter mentally until I knew everything was out, and I had some work travel ahead so didn't want issues. I do wonder if I conceive again though if the ultrasound room will still seem terrible or if I will humor the worried mind and get scans somewhere else. I like my OB, just not that stupid room. blech.

It pisses me off too- just tell me the range of what to expect! Don’t just be like, it’s fine- it’s heavier than a period. Well no shit Sherlock, but HOW MUCH HEAVIER…

You can tell how happy I am with how doctors deliver information. Just tell me it’s going to suck ass and at the least if it doesn’t suck ass I’ll be pleasantly surprised. Otherwise, I’m going to question whether this is normal on top of all the pain… and it’s going to lead me to panic.

FREAKING EXACTLY THAT. it’s already painful enough emotionally to be going through this don’t LIE TO ME. I’d much rather be told “hey this is going to be one of the most painful things you go through. You’ll also lose something that looks different than a blood clot” and then have it be tolerable. Not be told oh it’s just like a heavier period with some cramping and some clots and then I’m sitting here questioning if I need to go to emerg or call an ambulance bc wtf was that???

What was even more screwed for me is I choose to have a d&e- I miscarried at 14 weeks but didn’t find out until the 18 week mark. Guess what happened? They left THE ENTIRE PLACENTA BEHIND. I passed that massive thing two weeks later. I went to the ER and couldn’t understand what was happening until it came out the next day the size of my fist… like ok, cmon, I had the dam surgery for a reason.

ARE YOU KIDDING ME?? How did they not get everything out when they were in there?! How freaking traumatic AGAIN. I’m so sorry you had to go through that.
