repair help
An '01 Dodge Ram, uncertain on the motor size beyond a v8 magnum (not mine) been having issues getting started or staying running, I've changed the starter in it, got a altenator coming for it but it turns over fine, just doesn't really try to fire up. has electrical clicking coming from the block, sounds to me like injectors and that is while the key is in the on position and for about 5 minutes after ran a scan tool on it, no codes given.

If it cranks fine but won't fire, I'd be looking at fuel or spark before throwing an alternator at it. The clicking you're hearing in the on position could be the injectors priming, but if they're chattering for five minutes straight that seems off. No codes on an 01 is pretty common, those older ECUs don't always log misfire or fuel issues until it actually runs. Have you checked fuel pressure at the rail yet?

the guy I'm working on it for did say he had it taken to a shop for a tune up and got it back with a miss, took it back and got it taken care of, I should probably trace everything to make sure it all lines up with the firing order, the starter and altenator are at his request, I've already told him it won't likely fix anything but he still wants them updated as its an inherited vehicle. if the electrical through the plugs and distributer turn out all fine, I guess I'll have to try to see if the fuel pump activates and trace from there before i go pulling anything apart. would the rail be accessable just after the air filter, or would I need to get the intake manifold removed too? Been a while since I've messed with fule injection, my knowledge is based more before the OBD electrical stuff.
