I want to get my wife “good” makeup for Christmas but don’t know where to start.

My wife and I are getting each other 1 gift this Christmas. She had mentioned a few months ago that she wished she had “actual good makeup”, and I want to give her that for Christmas, I just don’t know where to start/don’t want to get scammed by advertising for mediocre products.

Would anyone be able to give me some leads to go off of? Thank you so much

Matte Foundation for Oily Skin

All the good foundations are gone (aka, reformulated and now garbage). Does anyone have a suggestion for something like the OG Estée Lauder Double Wear, Fenty Pro Matte, or Smashbox 24 Hour Foundation? They’re either gone or reformulated, and I’ve tried so many that are just not good. I HATE the new Fenty and Estée Lauder foundation, it gets oily, accentuates my pores and sits inside my pores, and breaks up around my mouth and chin, cheeks, and between my eyebrows. Help!

[Makeup Help] Makeup help for engagement photos

• Upvotes

Hello!! I am good at doing my own makeup, but not picking what goes with what... I have engagement photos coming up, and I do not know what lipstick and blush to go with my eye makeup and dress. For context, I have very long dark blonde hair, brown eyes, pale complection with warm (I think) undertones. I am wearing two dresses for photos: #1 light blue, #2 ombre white to gray. #1 I plan on blue and white eye makeup, but no idea for the lipstick/blush shades or intensity. #2 I don't have any ideas. I try to stick with the rule of loud eyes= soft lips/blush, soft eyes= loud lips/blush. Any ideas?

Doing my own makeup for the wedding

Hi folks,

I've decided to do my own makeup for my wedding, which is in around 7 months, and I'm starting the process of truly learning how to do makeup. I am by no means a beginner, but I definitely have a lot to learn, and I have a couple of asks:
1. What are the best modern makeup tutorials that you're watching now, from someone who really goes over the techniques of makeup and why they do certain things?
2. The celebrity lookalikes I've gotten in the past are Uma Thurman, Emma Stone, and Anya Taylor-Joy. I have very apple cheeks, which is why I think I get these. What makeup style do you think looks best on their face shape? For reference, I actually have brown hair.
Thanks!

Looking for a weightless, natural glow product for dry skin

• Upvotes

Hey everyone!

I am looking for suggestions for illuminator or any similar product that will give my skin some subtle brightness and a natural-looking glow.

Sometimes when I am completely done with my morning skincare and sunscreen, my face tends to look a bit flat. I really want something that delivers an effortless, lit-from-within radiance.

I tried Lumi glotion when a friend suggested it, but it just felt weird for some reason.

I also tried Saie’s super gel illuminator, and honestly i didn’t see any difference. and it also had some fragrance.

What are your favorite weightless liquid illuminators that sit beautifully over sunscreen without adding any heavy layers?

Thank you in advance!

[Makeup Help] Mixing oil based and water based makeup

Hey guys, I have a water based primer and an oil based rhode bronzer, is it okay if I let my water based primer settle a bit/ dry down and then put my bronzer over it? Or will this cause pilling/patchiness?

What Halloween makeup mistake would you never repeat?

For anyone who’s done Halloween or character makeup: what looked great at home but became a problem a few hours later?

Black lipstick disappearing after a drink? Face paint transferring onto your costume? A white base cracking when you smiled?

What happened, and what would you do differently next time? Technique tips are just as welcome as product recommendations.

Do you buy the travel size for travel?

Why do you buy mini makeup items: for travel, to try before committing to the full size, or to spend less upfront?

I rarely am actually looking for a mini version for travel and typically just saw it in store or online and it piqued my interest before checking out. What about you?

Also curious what products you go for minis vs full size.

How do you decide which lighting to trust for makeup?

A look can seem balanced by a window and much stronger under warm evening lights. When you're planning makeup for a particular place, do you judge it in that lighting first, or aim for something that works across both? Curious which adjustment you make first: color, placement, or intensity.

Is it possible to cover dark circles without looking like you’re wearing makeup?

I’m in my early 30s and have always been bothered by the shadows under my eyes. I’ve been thinking about trying a bit of makeup to make them less obvious, but I’d really prefer that nobody could tell I was wearing anything. Is it possible to achieve this, particularly in natural daylight or when someone is close to you? Any advice on products or how to apply them would be appreciated!

Extensionist dupe?

Hi, I bought the L'Oreal Extensionist mascara recently, and it's really good. But at the time of buying I didn't know they test on animals, and all my makeup is cruelty free. I've tried searching on TikTok and google, but I can't seem to find a good cruelty free mascara that will have the same effect.

[Makeup Help] Done with foundation?

How did y'all decide that you were at a point in your skincare that you didn't need foundation anymore? I've spent $$$ playing around with different brands, coverages, tones and none of them have hit the mark. But also I'm probably at a point with my skincare routines that I could probably ditch foundation completely and just spot with concealer. Or just use my light sheer SPF? What do you guys think?

[Makeup Help] Eyeshadow on extremely hooded eyes?

My eyes are insanely hooded, like you can’t see the lower lid in the middle of my eye at all, you can a slight sliver at the ends of my eye, and that’s it. But I love eyeshadow looks, esp, with my face paint, but all of the eye shadow tuts for hooded eyes don’t work out for me because they all have atleast a tiny bit of space above the eye while I don’t. ☹️
If you have eyes like this plz tell how u do it, or like send tuts u use or smthn.

[Makeup Help] Eyebrow gel on powdered brows

So I use powder on my eyebrows and I prefer that over like a pencil because I feel like I have more control. I started using eyebrow gel and I like how it shapes my face when I stroke the hairs up and it sticks. The problem is that the powder bleeds into my skin when applying the gel. Do I use powder first and do the gel or gel first & then apply powder? Or do I eventually need to switch to a pencil? SOS lol helppp. 😭

[Makeup Help] Influence/Deinfluence Me

Hey Guys

With the recent Sephora sale coming up I just want to buy products that I would use on a daily basis rather than trying to hoard makeup so please give your opinions.

For reference I am light-medium toned girly with dark hair and prefer a minimal look.

Products-
1. One size Powder Melting Spray
2. Charlotte Tilbury Concealer
3. Huda Beauty Lip Stain
4. Kulfi lip staining mousse
5. Dior Highlighter palette in shade Icy Rosy Glow

Also any suggestions on a good natural looking skin tint would be really appreciated.

Cool toned contour

Hello everybody!!

I was just looking for some recommendations (preferably drugstore) for cool toned contours or bronzers. I'm quite fair skinned and everything I've used (such as the elf halo glow contour in fair/light which I'm currently using) pulls way too orange on me.

I wear shade fair rose in the elf hydrating camo concealer, just for reference of my skin tone.

Thanks for all the help in advance! :3
