Mod Post Chronic Lyme Q&A - What To Do When Symptoms Don't Improve

Hello everyone,

Over the course of 2024, I’ve been tracking the most frequently asked questions from those new to the chronic Lyme community. To provide clear and reliable answers, I’ve compiled insights from leading Lyme experts—including ILADS, LLMD's like Dr. Horowitz or Marty Ross, and online resources like LymeDisease.org—along with thoughtful contributions from the most consistent and knowledgeable members here on r/Lyme.

While the wiki already contains a wealth of valuable information, I believe a concise collection of the most popular questions and answers will benefit everyone. This resource aims to streamline the support available in this forum, making it easier for newcomers to find the help they need.

The resource will be located here, at the top of the main Wiki page. The rest of the Wiki is of course still active and can be found here.

On desktop, there will be a table of contents at the top where you can click each question and it will automatically bring you to the answer. Unfortunately, Reddit has not enabled this function on it's mobile app, so you will need to scroll through the entire page to find the question you are looking for. I separated each question out with line breaks, so hopefully it won't be too hard to navigate on mobile.

I’m confident in the quality of the information provided here, with over 30 Microsoft Word pages of detailed content ensuring comprehensive coverage.

If you are brand new to r/Lyme please read question 20 so you know how to interact appropriately in this space and if you're interested in reading my (admittedly insanely passionate) deep dive into alternative treatments, be sure to check out Question 18.

I hope this resource proves as helpful as I’ve intended it to be. If you have any additional questions you believe should be added or have additional insights to the current answers, please comment below.

Here is the list of current questions:

  1. What is chronic Lyme?

  2. I’m still sick with symptoms after treatment, what should I do first?

  3. I see people commenting that LLMDs are a scam and they are trying to take advantage of you for profit. How do I know who to trust?

  4. I can’t afford an LLMD, what else can I do?

  5. Why is there so much conflicting information?

  6. Can Lyme disease develop resistance to antibiotics?

  7. What is the timeline to get better?

  8. I’m getting worse/feel weird while taking antibiotics or herbals, is it not working?

  9. My stomach is upset when taking doxycycline, what should I do?

  10. What diet should I eat, and does it matter?

  11. Should I retest after I finish my course of antibiotics?

  12. My doctor doesn’t believe that Chronic Lyme exists. What can I show him to prove that it does?

  13. I’ve seen people say IGENEX is not a reliable lab. Is this true?

  14. I have a negative test but some positive bands on my western blot test. Every doctor is telling me it’s a negative and can’t be Lyme.

  15. Is Lymescience.org a legit website?

  16. People have said there is no evidence showing efficacy of long-term antibiotics for chronic Lyme. Is this true?

  17. The cdc says people with “post treatment Lyme” get better after 6 months without additional treatment, is that true?

  18. I’ve heard people say alternative treatments (Herbals, Rife, Homeopathy, Ozone, Bee Venom etc.) are pseudoscience? Is that true?

  19. I’ve heard supplements and herbs are poorly regulated and I shouldn’t take them because I don’t know for sure what’s in them.

  20. How to use r/Lyme and online forums in general

Mod Post Just Bit? **Read This**

Welcome to r/Lyme! This post is a general overview of Lyme disease and guidelines for people who have just been bitten by a tick.

Disclaimer: This is for educational purposes only and is not intended to be medical advice. Please seek the help of a medical professional if necessary.

What is Lyme Disease?

Lyme disease is the most common vector-borne illness in the U.S., caused by Borrelia burgdorferi and Borrelia mayonii. It’s usually transmitted by blacklegged ticks (also known as deer ticks).

Early symptoms include:

  • Fever
  • Headache
  • Fatigue
  • Erythema migrans (bullseye rash) – note: up to 60% of people never develop a rash

If untreated, the infection can spread to the heart, joints, and nervous system, potentially leading to chronic illness and long-term complications.

What to Do If You Were Just Bitten

1. Test the Tick (if you still have it)
Send it to: https://www.tickcheck.com/
This identifies which infections the tick carried and can guide treatment decisions. If you no longer have the tick, just move on to the next steps.

2. Check for a Bullseye Rash
If you're unsure what it looks like, see this guide:
https://www.reddit.com/r/lyme/wiki/diagnostics/identify/

Important: If you have a bullseye rash, you have Lyme disease. No further testing is needed. Start treatment.

3. Review the ILADS Treatment Guidelines
https://www.ilads.org/patient-care/ilads-treatment-guidelines/

Summary of ILADS recommendations:

  • If bitten but asymptomatic: 20 days of doxycycline is recommended (assuming no contraindications)
  • If rash or symptoms are present: 4–6 weeks of doxycycline, amoxicillin, or cefuroxime is recommended

Why ILADS and Not CDC/IDSA Guidelines?

This is one of the most important parts of understanding Lyme treatment. The CDC and IDSA guidelines are still followed by the majority of U.S. physicians, but they are deeply flawed and outdated in several key ways.

Here’s why ILADS guidelines are preferred by most Lyme-literate doctors and patients:

1. They rely on incomplete or irrelevant data
The CDC/IDSA recommendations are based heavily on European studies, even though the strains of Lyme in Europe (B. afzelii, B. garinii) are different from those in the U.S. (B. burgdorferi). This matters because treatment responses can vary between strains.

Of the studies referenced in CDC guidelines:

  • Only 6 U.S. trials were used to form the treatment tables
  • Many tables relied exclusively on European data
  • Duration recommendations were based on trials with high failure or dropout rates

For example:

  • One U.S. study had a 49% dropout rate (Wormser et al.)
  • Another had a 36% failure rate, with many needing retreatment

Yet these studies are used to support recommendations of just 10–14 days of antibiotics.

2. They ignore patient-centered outcomes
The CDC guidelines focus primarily on eliminating the rash (erythema migrans), not on whether the patient actually recovers or regains quality of life.

The ILADS guidelines, on the other hand, emphasize:

  • Return to pre-Lyme health status
  • Prevention of long-term symptoms
  • Patient quality of life
  • Lower rates of relapse and re-infection

CDC-based treatment often leaves people partially treated and still symptomatic, leading to chronic illness.

3. Their recommended durations are too short
The CDC recommends:

  • 10 days of doxycycline
  • 14 days of amoxicillin or cefuroxime

These durations are often not enough, especially if the bacteria have already spread beyond the skin. ILADS argues—and research supports—that longer treatment courses are more effective at fully clearing the infection, especially in the early stages when treatment is most critical.

4. High failure rates in real-world outcomes
Studies show that even patients treated under CDC protocols continue to experience symptoms months later. For instance:

A 2013 observational study found that 33% of EM patients still had symptoms 6 months after a standard 21-day course of doxycycline:
https://link.springer.com/article/10.1007/s11136-012-0126-6

Conclusion: ILADS guidelines are based on more recent evidence, use better clinical metrics (like symptom resolution), and are tailored to reflect the real-world experiences of Lyme patients in the U.S.

For a detailed breakdown and sources:
https://www.mdpi.com/2079-6382/10/7/754#B15-antibiotics-10-00754

Recommended Treatment Durations

  • Mild cases (e.g. one EM rash): Minimum 20 days of doxycycline, amoxicillin, or cefuroxime
  • More severe cases (multiple rashes, neuro symptoms): 4–6 weeks of antibiotics
  • Still symptomatic after treatment? Re-treatment is supported by 7 of 8 U.S. trials

Getting Treatment

Many doctors are still unfamiliar with ILADS protocols and may only offer 10–21 days of antibiotics.

Here’s what you can do:

  • Bring a printout of the ILADS guidelines
  • Be firm but respectful—explain why longer treatment matters
  • If refused, monitor your symptoms and seek further care if needed
  • Be prepared to advocate for yourself—many people with Lyme had to

If you continue to have symptoms, you may need to see a Lyme-literate medical doctor (LLMD):
https://www.reddit.com/r/lyme/wiki/treatment/doctors/

Testing

Testing can be useful, but it has major limitations:

  • Antibody tests are unreliable in the first 4–6 weeks
  • Negative test does not rule out Lyme
  • The CDC two-tiered system was developed for diagnosing Lyme arthritis, not other types of presentations like neurological or psychiatric symptoms

More info:

Best labs (not usually covered by insurance):

If you’re just starting out, a basic Lyme panel from LabCorp or Quest is a good first step—50% of true Lyme cases may still test positive and it’s cheaper than specialty labs.

The specialty tests listed above with co-infection panels are mostly recommended for people who have had symptoms for months or years without treatment and regular doctors are unable to figure out what is wrong.

I was in the woods on Saturday and checked for ticks after but woke up to one latched onto my calf on Sunday morning. I got kinda nervous and ripped it off and disposed of it but it was a small black/dark brown tick the size of a sesame seed. It was latched for less than 10 hours. It seems to have a bruise in the middle and maybe some puss, the ring hasn’t grown in size (if even a ring) but has become more red. It hurt pretty bad day 1 and then less day 2 and 3. I was in western massachusetts. thoughts?

Question Vascular Leg Pain Remedies?

• Upvotes

Female, diagnosed one year ago with Lyme borrelia, Bartonella, babesia, mycoplasma, chlamydia pneumoniae.
I started battlefield busters right away, followed by a Cowden/Buhner herbal protocol. No leg when I started treatment. I’ve been working with a Lyme Literate Naturopath Doctor since the beginning.

About 6 months in, I started nutrient IVs and high dose vitamin C IVs. We paused bio-film busters and lowered the anti-microbial dose during this time as I was herxing quite severely. Dull, aching leg pain started to ramp up at night or when lying still so I would take Tylenol or Advil occasionally before bed. Leg pain got progressively worse and felt similar to growing pains. Like a deep, internal ache I couldn’t get to. It’s keeping me from falling asleep, staying asleep and I’ve become reliant on over th counter pain meds which I know is very bad for me. Typical SSRIs don’t work for me and I’m nervous to try much else in the pharmaceutical realm given to how I’ve reacted to things in the past.

I tried massage, physiotherapy, chiropractor care, osteopath, acupuncture, rife machine, bioresonance, you name it. I tried topical CBD and magnesium, LDN (was not able to make it past the increase in symptoms in the first month). I tried B12 shots, some initial relief but then pain returned to same levels. I played around with pausing and restarting anti-microbials. Same thing occurred. Compression socks have consistently helped, walking around helps, legs up the wall as well. Pain almost always worse at night, especially when lying down.

And then it clicked, I haven’t taken a biofilm busters in months because my job gets busy in summer and I wasn’t able to a handle a herx at the time. I had a few days off last month and I took half my regular dose. The herx was massive but I had 2 glorious days with 1/4 the amount of leg pain I usually I have. Fast forward, today, I’ve developed extreme sensitivity to my usual doses of anti-microbials, etc. so I went with half a NAC pill (my usual dose was 1800 mg NAC per day, 1500 mg of Bromelaine per day with minimal herxing). However, this time I herxed and my leg pain ramped up.

I think that my driving issue is vascular with a side of consequential nerve irritation I have yet to find anything relatable in this subreddit about this type of pain. Wondering if anyone can relate or has a suggestion on relief? I just want to sleeeeeeeep!

Question I have bullseye rash. Is my doctor putting me in danger?

3 weeks after possible ticks exposure I noticed a bullseye rash. Knowing what Lyme is I rushed to the hospital, where they took my blood sample for analisis (IgM positive) and immediately prescribed me amoxicillin.

Three days later I went to a doctor who's supposedly a Lyme expert. They want to run a DualDur test, but they don't have it at hand and I have to wait a week for it.

In the meantime they told me to stop taking antibiotics for the entire week before the test as it may affect results. The test would be done 29 days after possible infection.

I know that quick treatment is important for full recovery.

Are they putting me in danger by stopping treatment for a week?

Edit: Thank you all for the responses. I thought it was very suspicious that they wanted to leave me without antibiotics for a week, while I have clear signs of infection. I'm going to look for another doctor.

Question Negative tick-borne panel...questions.

Ok, so backstory...

I lived in small town West Virginia until I was almost 9. I climbed lots of trees. I got lots of tick bites on my head. I had thick hair and my mom wouldn't notice until they were huge and swollen, then she would touch a hot match to them to get them to release. I had no less than 10 tick bites like this.

I was diagnosed with Scarlet fever 3 times growing up, at ages 6,12, and 18. Otherwise, I got sick often.

As an adult, I have struggled with one weird, inexplicable health issue after another. Then, at 30, I got meningitis. And at 33, Epstein-Barr...ended up with chronic EBV.

Finally at 45, was diagnosed with Ehlers Danlos Syndrome, so that explains some stuff...but then at 51, diagnosed with lupus and rheumatoid arthritis.

I have wondered about lyme for years, but never got tested.

My new dr was shocked that I hadn't been tested, so she ordered a big lyme panel. Then I researched the types of ticks common in WV in the 1970s, and everything pointed to the type that caused Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever...which apparently was what many people diagnosed with Scarlet fever ACTUALLY had.

So, we tested for that as well. I was sure one would be positive.

Nope. All negative. The entire panel. And I am feeling like something was missed. Do I just accept it? Or ask for other tests?

Question I’m at a total loss - do I need to switch providers & completely change directions for my treatment?? Advice desperately needed.

I’ve been at this a year with my Lyme literate TCM. Who I have deeply trusted this entire time. Her assessment and my testing definitely show I’ve had chronic Lyme for quite some time. I don’t know when my bites were exactly. But I have Lyme babesia and Bart plus several other co infections that lit up. I probably had fatigue and other neurological symptoms for years that fell under the radar. But last year, I developed horrific body pain basically over night. Which is what pushed me to the Lyme diagnosis and finding my TCM.

The body pain: shooting, stabbing, sharp one second, to deep bone throbbing aches the next second. From head to toe. Moves by the second to minute. From sun up to sun down since last year. It is like a light switch - it will randomly just turn off one day for a few weeks to maybe even months, then one night will randomly come back full throttle. It has done this to me several times now in the last year.

I’ve been doing acupuncture weekly since last October. With my TCM. I did liver support and immune support from last October through April and in April I started the ABAB Byron white formula. I’m just now starting the AL (Lyme) BW formula. The pain doesn’t respond or calm down to ANYTHING when it is present.

I’m coming out of 2 months almost symptom free, and almost 2 weeks ago the body wide pain came back over night. I am absolutely miserable. My TCM today told me we just need to keep going.

But I am in so much pain - my ChatGPT is telling me I need to start thinking of different routes - that I should see some improvement by now and potentially seek out another LL provider and consider antibiotics and I am at that point. I’ve been avidly against antibiotics and so is my TCM but I’m literally at a loss rn. I’m in Montana and she is the only one in town I trust. Does anyone have recommendations for Lyme providers in Montana?? I’m so fucking terrified that I’m a year into this and what if this entire treatment hasn’t been working for me and I am thousands and thousands of dollars into this and still slipping into these flares that are just unbearable pain day in and day out. I’m literally terrified of just everything now.

I don’t know what to do and really need advice. My TCM says she’s never had a patient she hasn’t gotten into remission. But I’m getting the impression I’m a little bit of a question mark to her now since we cannot get this body pain under better control. It feels nerve related and also vascular related. It doesn’t behave like typical neuropathy and it doesn’t respond to ANYTHING to treat neuropathy. In fact it doesn’t respond to anything at all. When the flip is on, NOTHING relieves it. No acupuncture, no gabapentin, no saunas, no amount of detox, nothing.

I’m at a total fucking loss and terrified I’m just going to be a question mark forever and never get this under control.

Edit: I’m open to doctor recs from across the US with Telehealth. I’d prefer someone that’s open to both herbs and antibiotics.

Question Question about herxing

Hey all, would love any perspectives on this --

I'm still pretty new to treating a confirmed chronic Lyme infection. I started my first round of antibiotics in September and right away, the symptoms I had been experiencing (brain fog, inflammation, exhaustion) all went from like a 3 out of 10 in terms of intensity to maybe a 7. Gradually over the course of the month they went back down to maybe a 5 or 6, but still significantly more intense than pre-abx.

Antibiotics started to mess with my stomach, so with my LLMD's approval I stopped after a month. After 10 days of nothing to recover, I started on Buhner herbs. Once again I'm noticing that the symptoms are getting stronger.

Seems like herxing? But what seems strange to me is that at no point since I've started any of these treatments (even after "clearing out" for 10 days post-abx) did my symptoms go back down to where they were pre-abx. It's like a new level of intensity was unlocked and that's where I am now, as a baseline. Furthermore, none of the herxing has been "sharp"; it's been this sort of flat, slow level of increased intensity that's about the same every day.

Is this a common experience, should I be worried about anything?

Advice Need help or advice PLEASE

Hi, so I might have lyme's arthritis. It started in January when i twisted my left knee. That eventually got better. In early march the knees were feeling great and I did an eight mile hike. Over the next several weeks my right knee started having some pain. Then it started swelling. It got swollen enough that I could only bend my leg to ninety degrees. I went through it with an orthopedic doctor, he diagnosed it as pfps and sent me to physical therapy. I completed a month of therapy and was no better so he agreed to do an mri. The mri showed nothing. Around this time the right knee was getting much better and less swollen, but the left knee was swelling up. The doctor told me to continue with pt. In September I was fed up and went to a different doctor. He told me this isn't normal for your age (21) and ran a bunch of tests. The white blood cell count in the synovial fluid was 15,000, as well as a CRP of 44.7. Something was causing inflammation. Then the lyme disease test came back positive. IGG was 45 and IGM was 2.47. So I am 2.5 weeks into a month of doxycycline. At first I thought it was helping but the last few days have been worse. Not sure what to do or who to see after this. Not even positive if this is lyme disease, I haven't really had any other symptoms. Currently I don't have much swelling, mostly just pain in the right knee. Any help would be appreciated

Has anyone here used a BCX ULTRA Deluxe?

I was fortunate enough to have a family member lend me one to try, so I didn’t have to commit to buying one!

Unfortunately, I haven’t noticed a thing. The protocol he used was just for Lyme, but he added programs for Babesia and Bartonella specifically for me. I stuck with the Lyme protocol for a bit, and now I’ve moved on to the Babesia program in hopes that it would do something, but I still haven’t noticed any difference. No herxing or feeling better. I’m going to keep at it, but I’m pretty bummed!

His Lyme protocol helped him heal in 3 months, and he regained all the abilities he had lost!

Question Is Cryptolepine toxic in the doses Buhner recommends Cryptolepis?

Hi, all. Hope you're having a better day today )

I have all three Bs - Borrelia, Bart and Bab.

The other day I've seen some MD student talking about their possible Lyme infection and in the same thread rejecting recommendation about Cryptolepis because "Cryptolepine is toxic". I have zero trust in regular MD's knowledge about Lyme and co. treatment but wanted to ask just in case because Buhner recommends some seriously high doses of Crypto.

I'm taking Crypto now and slowly increasing dose. It IS working already but don't want to sabotage my detox systems by potentially toxic dose. Any reasoned advice is welcome.

Question I was in Allegheny National Forest in mid June and need any advice or help

This all started about three months ago right at the end of July. I got really bad headaches and chest pain with air hunger. When I got to college about a month later it got worse and went to the er because my heart would randomly start racing out of no where to about 180+, I have arm, chest, neck, arm, back (between shoulder blades), and shoulder stabbing and aching pains. I got ecgs, chest and neck X-rays, blood work. They said my ferritin was a bit low but not low enough to cause this. I went back to er a month later because my breathing got so bad. They gave me muscle relaxers which only made me tired. I have asthma but have been treated for it (tried albuterol, steroid inhaler, and prednisone). None helped. I went to a cardiologist and got a week long heart monitor and nothing came back and am getting echo later this week just Incase but I’m only 19 and they don’t think it is heart related unless it is an autonomic disorder. I saw a spine specialist and he said it was muscles in back running to neck causing nerve pain. I’m afraid this all could be Lyme but idk. I still have terrible air hunger 24/7 and I have developed popping across chest especially upper middle and shoulder. Any advice will help. I’m afraid my two er visits either missed a something somewhere or I just have not gotten the right tests yet. Any advice will help PLEASE, I know Allegheny is known for tics carrying Lyme.

Image Preparing to start treatment again

Post image
19 Upvotes

Hello! Just wanted to share an update, more for myself than anyone here lol!

Today I’ve started azithromycin! I’m hoping I’ll be able to tolerate it and then be able to add in some other meds to hit Babesia hard. The picture is my “med cart.” I have ginger chews and slices, antacids, slippery elm, binders, electrolytes, prunes (iykyk😂), applesauce, NSAIDs, and a couple of other things. This helps me feel equipped for however this antibiotic is going to treat my body!

Last week I had my Dr. appointment, and we discussed my Igenex and TLab results. Positive for Lyme and Babesia odocoilei! Bartonella is suspected, but for now, Babesia is the priority since it seems that the majority of my symptoms are from that, especially considering the severity of this species.

Background: I have been off treatment since about mid-2025 due to MCAS reactions. I tried some herbs and ozone in 2024/early 2025, and I was beyond a mess, so I decided to find a new Dr. since I was rapidly declining. I know that treatment is hard because of herxing, but I could hardly eat enough, digest, sleep, stay hydrated, etc.

Fast forward to this year, and my current Dr. has been very helpful with getting my body to a more predictable and calm place. We did go on several side quests to figure out if there were other things contributing to my body’s dysfunction, and there were a couple of things, but I think I’m in a good place to try treatment again! I believe the break was hugely important for me. We’ve been working to manage inflammation/oxidative stress, my gut is in better shape, and I am able to eat what I need. Even though my sleep isn’t perfect, I am able to sleep 10+ hours. I believe these are some of the “pillars” of healing.

Trigger warning: suicide mentioned

During treatment with my first Dr., I was so under-supported that I became extremely suicidal. Every day, for months, I was like a corpse in body and mind. It completely unwound me as a person, and it was brutal on my mind just as much as my body. I think I went through an ego death. It was hell and truly has scarred me.
There were so many nights when I could barely breathe, my heart was beating out of my chest, and I could barely leave my bed. When I would finally fall asleep, the nightmares were horrific. I would sit in the shower and sob uncontrollably. And it’s a little embarrassing to admit, but at one point I even started regressing to sucking my thumb. I think that will need to get unpacked by a professional at some point in my life LOL. Nonetheless, it was extremely traumatizing.

End trigger warning.

So let’s hope that this is a step in the right direction toward killing these parasites and bacteria!!

Bartonella and Babesia

Hi everyone!

After 8 and a half years, I have finally been diagnosed with the conditions I have been suffering from.
I tested positive for Bartonella, Babesia, and Borrelia.
Over the past several years, I have seen around 30 doctors and undergone numerous tests and blood tests before finally getting these results.

My symptoms started when I was 17. I am now 26.
From the very beginning, my symptoms have included brain fog and a constant feeling of not being fully sober, as if I were in an altered state of consciousness. I have difficulty concentrating. The most disturbing symptom is that my mind never stops racing. It feels like a radio that is constantly playing inside my head. I simply cannot find any mental silence, and I have no control over it.

I am fully aware of my thoughts, and it is similar to the way you normally think or imagine things, such as conversations or situations. The difference is that it happens continuously and involuntarily, and I cannot control it or make it stop.
I also have several visual symptoms. When I look at the sky or at a white wall or sheet of paper, I constantly see floating spots in my field of vision, along with persistent visual sparkles. My eyes are sensitive to light, and when I am exposed to bright light, my eyelids quickly become fatigued and feel heavier, making my eyes appear more bulging.
I experience derealization, as if I were trapped inside myself, inside my own head, and unable to get out. I also have a strange sensation of something physically missing or absent inside my head, particularly in the back right-hand side.

I have been in an extremely withdrawn, inward-focused state for almost nine years, and I cannot seem to break out of it.
I have constant back pain. My back is extremely stiff, and I have inflammation around my vertebrae. I feel physically weak, and my entire body feels heavy. For years, I have felt that whenever I am out somewhere, such as when travelling on a bus, I need to sit down because I feel so weak.
Every 20–30 minutes, when I turn or change position, my chest cracks and pops, sometimes producing a sound that resembles something tearing.
It feels as though all of this is draining everything out of me, leaving me completely depleted of energy. My condition gets worse and I become weaker with each passing year.

I am constantly struggling with severe depression. It takes an enormous amount of effort every day just to keep myself going. I have not been able to work for the past six months because I currently do not have the strength to do so.
I also experience shortness of breath and a constant sensation of not getting enough oxygen.
My dopamine levels feel extremely low. It feels as though my brain is inflamed, and my body is constantly tense. I find it very difficult to relax.
According to my doctor, Bartonella and Babesia are responsible for my symptoms. I do not have the typical symptoms of Lyme disease.

Is there anyone in this group who experiences or has experienced these same or similar symptoms?
I have been taking rifampicin and doxycycline for two months. This is my first course of treatment.
Since starting treatment, I have completely cut out sugar and quit smoking. I really feel the absence of cigarettes. Smoking was practically the only thing I looked forward to during the day. My dopamine levels feel extremely low, and, strangely enough, when I used to smoke, I experienced less of that sensation of not getting enough oxygen.

Could you please help me figure out which supplements are worth taking alongside my medication? I bought lumbrokinase to help break down biofilms, and I am planning to try methylene blue as well.
I have also purchased the following supplements:
Cryptolepis sanguinolenta drops
Glutathione
NAC (N-acetylcysteine)
Takesumi Supreme (bamboo charcoal)
Magnesium L-threonate
Magnesium L-theanine

What else could I take that would be particularly important or beneficial? I would really appreciate any recommendations, especially based on personal experience.

Thank you so much for your help!

26F 1.5 Years Post Lyme; Tired and in Pain

Hi everyone,

I had my initial Lyme infection about a year and a half ago. I was hiking in western NY and never saw a tick. A couple weeks later, a bunch of symptoms had started to appear. My neck could hardly move, my joints were swollen and painful, it was hard to walk, and I had bullseye rashes all over my body. I was very active and fit, and in a challenging doctoral program. I treated the infection with doxycycline for 2 weeks. I started to feel much better.

Unfortunately, I have still not made a full recovery and am increasingly discouraged by ongoing symptoms. My neck and back are still in almost constant pain that radiates down my side/ ribcage. My joints are achy and I am incredibly fatigued. I just don’t feel like myself. I am much less active because of this, although I still try to exercise a couple times a week.

I am just wondering if anyone has had a similar experience or has any encouragement/ hope to share. I’m frustrated by the pain, and I find that nothing helps long term. Massages are great but within a couple days I am uncomfortable again. Same with yoga or stretching. Thank you for listening!

Question questiona regarding ME/CFS,Lyme,babesia ,Mold ,EBV and Sars Cov 2 spike interpretation

Hey everyone,

Just got some new Labcorp results back and wanted to hear from others dealing with Lyme, Babesia, ME/CFS or mold-related illness.

I've had ME/CFS for 1several years, but over the past couple of months I've been feeling increasingly sick, almost like I'm being poisoned, even in environments where I previously felt better.

My October 21, 2026 lab results:

Lyme:

IgM Western blot: POSITIVE

Bands 23, 39 and 41: All present

IgG Western blot: NEGATIVE (all 10 bands absent)

Lyme Total Antibody CIA screening: NEGATIVE

Other findings:

Babesia microti IgG: <1:10 (negative)

Previous Babesia microti IgM: Positive through IGeneX, with negative IgG

EBV Early Antigen IgG: Persistently >150 (reference 0–8.9)

SARS-CoV-2 Spike Antibody: 783 U/mL (negative <0.8)

I've never received a COVID vaccine, although I understand previous natural infection can explain positive spike antibodies

A little about my health

I have ME/CFS with significant post-exertional malaise, cognitive impairment, dizziness, unrefreshing sleep, MCAS and environmental sensitivities.

I also have fatty liver, with a FibroScan CAP score around 320 and liver stiffness of 5.1 kPa.

I've spent considerable time experimenting with different environments because certain buildings, HVAC systems and chemicals seem to make me much worse.

I frequently wake up feeling extremely sick, almost poisoned.

Previously, spending time outdoors around good outdoor locations provided some relief Arizona.tjouth still very limited

But over the last couple of months, even previously tolerable outdoor environments haven't been providing the same relief. My sick building symptoms and overall malaise seem to be getting progressively worse.

I'm wondering whether something systemic, possibly infectious or immune-related, could be contributing.

A few questions:

Has anyone had all three Lyme IgM bands positive while IgG and the screening test remained negative? Did further testing clarify things?

Anyone with Babesia IgM-positive/IgG-negative results who eventually confirmed or ruled out infection?

Has anyone with ME/CFS, Lyme or Babesia experienced worsening poisoned feelings, mold/chemical sensitivities or reduced tolerance of previously helpful outdoor environments?

I understand these antibody results don't necessarily establish active infection, particularly with longstanding symptoms.

But given how much worse I've been feeling lately, I'm trying to figure out whether I'm overlooking something potentially treatable.

Would really appreciate hearing about others' experiences, including what testing or treatments helped clarify things

Thanks, everyone

Positive Lyme IgM (all 3 bands), negative IgG, Babesia history, elevated EBV and worsening ME/CFS symptoms.

Anyone experienced something similar?

Thank you

Sleeping or naps. Whenever I wake up briefly in the night or the morning or even from a nap, my hands feel so swollen and painful, and my joints hurt in my wrists. I'm not sure if my hands aren't receiving blood flow or what. I've noticed my oxygen says it goes down to 93 ish when napping / asleep not sure if that's connected. Anyone experience this pain?

Question Post treatment Lyme symptoms and new Moderna MRNA Covid vaccine

I was infected with Lyme in 2015 and have dealt with PTLS since then. I have gotten the Covid vaccine several times over the years with little to no problems. A few weeks ago I got the new Moderna MNRA spike vaccine and it has been kicking my butt with upper body muscle pain. Anyone else?
