Mod Announcement Community Health - Updated Rules

Hi everyone.

The Mod team have noticed a steady increase in negative behaviour/attitudes within the community.

We want to assure every one of our users, that we do not think it is acceptable to amplify/glorify violence/abuse against one group or minority; and we will be proactive in enforcement.

We have created new rules specifically to manage this issue, and we will be implementing them robustly. If a user contravenes these rules it will result in a ban. We don't see this as an ideal outcome, but it is the only way to manage this effectively in the interim.

We politely ask all users to check out the side bar for the updated rules. TY.

Behaviour to look out for:

If you think you are the victim of flaming or baiting, please report the behaviour instead of responding.

Flaming - The act of attacking other users for their views or opinions

Baiting - The act of making comments that can be reasonably interpreted as having the intention of getting a rise out of other users, and goading other users into violating the community rules.

The Mod team have a responsibility to create and maintain an environment that the whole user base is comfortable interacting within. This is one of our core community values.

If you would like to contact us regarding the new rules, their enforcement or anything else in between; please feel free to reach out to us via ModMail.

Thank you for your continued support and understanding.

Mod Team.

Emotional Advice I wish I met new things with enthusiasm instead of fear.

I want to be someone who embraces new beginnings, but everything is so nerve wrecking instead. I am nervous about my driving test that's a month from now, I am even nervous about the lessons beforehand. I didn't like my university and made no friends, I know it's time to move on and there is nothing left for me here, yet I am nervous to step out into the workforce and leave behind the comfort of academia.

Relationship Advice Should I go or tough it out till the end of our lease

Me and my GF just broke up 3 weeks ago and we are currently in the middle of a 12month lease which ends in January. We initially agreed that it would be emotionally beneficial for us if I would move into my mother’s place til the lease is up. I’m currently paying half the rent and utilities. I just stayed at my mom’s place the past 2 days and it feels stupid paying for a place I don’t stay in anymore with an ex doing God knows what in there (she’s already actively dating). I agreed to follow her schedule so I’m out of her way as much as possible but that’s easier said than done. Should I just tough out at my mom’s place or go back and do the best I can to stay at the apartment to January?

Mental Health Advice Feeling lost at 22. What Now?

• Upvotes

I’m 22F, and honestly, I don’t even know where to start.

I left my job four months ago because I wanted to look for better opportunities and build a better future for myself. I thought taking a step back, coming home, and preparing for something better would be the right decision. But it’s been four months, and I still haven’t found a job.

Being unemployed is already stressful enough. The uncertainty, the constant worrying about my future, and the feeling that I’m not moving forward are difficult to deal with. But what’s been hurting me the most is my situation at home.

Over these past few months, I feel like I’ve started seeing my parents differently. I always knew they could be strict, but I never realized how much their words and constant pressure could affect me mentally. Instead of feeling supported while I’m already struggling, I often end up feeling even more demotivated and pressured.

I understand that they might be worried about my future. I know being unemployed for months isn’t ideal, and I’m not pretending that everything is fine. I want to find a better job, become independent, and get my life back on track, too. I’m already aware of the situation, and I don’t need to be reminded of it every single day.

Sometimes, all I want is a little understanding. I want to be able to figure things out without feeling like I’m constantly disappointing someone. I want home to feel like a place where I can breathe, especially when the outside world already feels so overwhelming.

The hardest part is that I’m beginning to feel emotionally exhausted. I’m trying to figure out my career and my future, but I’m also struggling with the pressure and negativity at home. It’s making me question myself, my decisions, and sometimes even my ability to get things right.

I don’t know if I made the wrong decision by leaving my job. Maybe I should have handled things differently. But I can’t change the past, and I’m trying to figure out what to do next.

I guess I just wanted to get this off my chest and hear from people who might have gone through something similar.

How do you deal with parents who constantly demotivate you when you’re already struggling? How do you protect your peace and keep moving forward when your own home doesn’t feel emotionally supportive?

Career Advice Should I go to college before becoming an electrician?

I'm 17, I've never been to a formal school as I am homeschooled, and I live in Chicago. When I told my mom I wanted to be an electrician earlier this year she was shocked because she feels she's been raising me to be an artist because she knows I'm good at art. Obviously she wants me to go down whatever that route is of being an artist rather than being an electrician. She believes that it's not for me, I haven't done electrician related things before, I'm not the sharpest at math, etc. However, I don't have as much faith in art as a career to make reliable money as I do in being an electrician and I believe I can do it. She thinks I could likely get a scholarship and asked me to at least get an art degree with a minor in something business related so I have something to "fall back on".

I want to listen to her advice but I just feel like it might be a waste of time money and energy, especially considering I never wanted to go to college in the first place. If I became an electrician now though, I would never know what could've happened, do you guys think it's worth it to just hold off on being an electrician for 4 years and go to college?

Emotional Advice Should I send a message to her or even message her friend?

I can’t even say it is relationship advice when our time together lasted a month or so. I don’t have the same number as I did so she couldn’t text me if she ever had since we last spoke or if she wanted to now. I don’t have social media anymore outside of TikTok which I even deleted now. But I would look up my name on SendTheSong and Unsent Messages which is just not a name many people have and it shares a name with a pro sports team. And usually nothing exists there. But a few months ago something did, and it included a song that I knew every lyric to and loved so much. And I questioned if it was her. Months have gone by now but I keep thinking of messaging her, and I’ve even left messages on that same website built to house the unsent words of strangers and I’d include a nickname specific to her hoping maybe she’d see it. But I never will know if she has or will see it. The question will end up being, should I reach out? Is there a world where sometimes we part from someone meant to return and all it takes in one person reaching out? Or am I delusional with a twisted world view of what it means to be human and in my actions which tore us apart, I also took away the only chance I was given to intertwine our lives together? Story after this I guess sorry I legit only made a Reddit to ask this because I don’t want to mess it all up again. But I was seeing someone over two years ago now I think, who in the short time together made me feel more than I really ever have. I was broken and I pushed so hard for a label hoping I could somehow prove to myself I’m worth it if she would have embraced a title so quickly. I feared so much that I’d lose her and in that fear I was the main one to push her away. We got drunk on too many bottles of wine, and I tried to say “I love you” and she begged me not to. I was trying to prove to the world I was loveable and desired for no reason because after all is said and done I just want to see her. So I didn’t say I loved her there as she begged. The flowers I brought her on that date she didn’t end up taking inside with her when I took her home the next morning. She was always scrutinized at home, living with her brother, and her childhood she was labeled horrible things by her family and those around her. I can claim I loved her but my actions never showed that when I was met with resistance. She asked to slow down and even in my 20s I was too immature and damaged that my response was to lash out in pain and blame her for even having spoken such a thing due to the fact I felt it would ruin everything now and I’d be unable to do regress myself enough to correctly just take our time. I said horrible things to her at the end when I felt like she was lying to me about things, like her grandfather being sick when she told me she hated her grandfather for the things he’d say to her growing up. I took everything after that as an excuse to just avoid me in anyway she could and I can’t even blame her for doing so. I’d avoid me too. I made it about me in the end and after having broken things off I kept trying to meet up with her just to get my things back like clothes and my Switch. In the end when I didn’t get responses back I checked the app we met on where she popped up and it said she was active. I lost it and just told her to keep everything and I dropped off the things I had of hers still. I told her I never wanted to see her let alone speak to her because I felt like I had been cheated on which was disgusting of me. I know I wasn’t ok but it doesn’t excuse my attempts at trying to hurt her in some twisted plot meant to “balance” the hurt between us. I still think about her and the many nights we spent together just talking in my car at the beach. So many things in life from strawberries to the ocean are connected to her in my mind. Maybe that’s payback to forever be reminded of her existence through the most beautiful views or through the things I used to love. I’m not going to list out everything she did that I felt were red flags because it doesn’t matter to me anymore. They followed after my fruitless attempts to bind down a woman who was just learning to love herself and learning to fly. I want nothing more than to reverse time, and just sit with her. Even if we never would have ended up together, I just would have liked another week or even a day with her just to soak in those moments of peace. Needless to say I looked her up on TikTok after years of fighting it. I saw her again and I felt shame for the fact I acted like such a child. I felt disgust in myself for not having just enjoyed her kindness instead of forcing my desire to be loved onto her. She loved me in different ways without needing to say it. The way she rested her head on my chest, and the way she’d laugh uncontrollably in front of me. I’m sure through her childhood and in her pain she was terrified to let anyone close and I ended up being the perfect example of why she should be. I sound horrible in this I’m sure and I’d rather that be the case than to again speak ill of her and convince myself I was faultless. I don’t want to message her in hopes she’ll forgive me, and I don’t want to feel better about myself. I want to message her because I miss her laugh, I miss listening to her sing, and I would gladly walk alongside her slowly, year after year, if it just meant I could watch her shine again. I shouldn’t have looked her up I know, I shouldn’t have left my own SendTheSongs, and I question if I am really a man if I have to ask the internet what to do instead of just doing what I think is best. But I don’t know what is best. Someone I’m sure will say it’s limerence and I get that too but I’ve felt that for so many others in my life but it’s only her who remains in my mind so often. I know I can claim I know and really just be talking nonsense. I hope I’m not. Part of me imagines us reconnecting and catching up and the other part of me worries she’s not even alive anymore because the posts from her TikTok are old now. My stomach hurts my mind is torturing me and if the result at the end became I find out she’s safe, healthy, loved by another and happy I would be fucking grateful regardless if that means my own heart shatters knowing I’m not the one who gets to love her anymore. I’d move on with life eventually. But maybe it was her who left that message for me with the song I love, and she feels the same. Maybe she’s tried to reach out but my number changed and my social medias don’t exist anymore. I thought about even just messaging her friend to ask if she’s ok and not to tell her so that she’d never know I reached out. Just so I could know she’s safe and breathing. I don’t want to remove her wings, I don’t want her to tell me she loves me, but I do miss her so much. What should I do? Should I make an account somewhere and message her or not? Would it be too much even just to message her friend? I would have loved to just share a milkshake again, even if it was only as friends and never more like it was before. She kissed me first on our first date, after she shared her fears and her past with me and I shared mine with her. And as much as I wish I could hold her and share a moment like that again, I really just wish I knew she was ok. Sorry for the long one.

Career Advice Don’t wanna be another cog in the machine…

I am currently completing my masters in school psychology. Being a school psychologist is something I’ve always wanted to do, but some of the professors make it seem like we just do assessments and then pass along the data and move to the next kid. This doesn’t make me super excited to work in that field. Except I don’t know what else I would do…

I want to do something with my life. I want to help people. I want to make the world a better place, a world that I would feel comfortable bringing kids into.

Feeling lost and looking for guidance maybe? Or someone who feels the same? Reassurance? I’m not really sure.

Is there any specific ideas anyone has, any problems they feel are being looked over?

TW: Suicide Talk Is life really worth it?

• Upvotes

I recently turned 18 and am struggling with things, so I decided to go to Reddit because I don’t really have anyone in my life I can talk to about this. I just want to know if life is really worth it. From what I've experienced, the only purpose of life is to just suffer, and I’m worried that's all there is. My whole life I've been tired and in pain, and it's just gotten so much worse. I wake up, lie in bed for hours while begging my body to just move at least an inch, then when I'm finally able to get up, I trudge my way through the rest of the day. My body constantly aches, I'm always nauseous, I'm constantly having panic attacks, I keep seeing and hearing things, I'm always exhausted, and everything has gotten way too much. When I go to the doctor about my physical problems, they tell me that I'm probably just too stressed out and it's all in my head, but when I go to the doctor about my mental health issues, I get just brushed off and ignored. My brain is always screaming at me, telling me I'm wrong. Wherever I try to do anything, I'm always questioning myself; just a few days ago I was trying to make myself ramen, and it took me six hours to try to decide if I should eat because I had eaten the same dish earlier that day, and I was scared that if I ate the same dish twice in a row, it would be considered improper. In the end, I wasn't even able to decide; I had to ask my roommate if it was allowed. Whenever I try to process my feelings, my thoughts tell me that I'm faking, that people are suffering so much worse than I am, and I need to appreciate the things I've been endowed with, but I can't help but be dramatic and throw myself a pity party. Every time something good happens in my life, it just makes me feel so much worse. If I can feel good, why then am I forced to feel so terrible all the time? I'm always dissociating or using weed and sleeping meds to try and make myself feel better or to stop my thoughts, but it's like I'm putting a band-aid on a broken arm; yes, it's helping, but it can only do so much. I just don't want my whole life to look like this. I'm still young, and people keep telling me it gets easier with age, but those are the same people who always preach about, “how easier it was as a kid,” and, “how much they miss it”. Am I supposed to suffer now and then suffer more in the future so I can look back and say, "I miss when it hurt less"? That doesn't seem right or worth it to me. In my anatomy class, when we were discussing certain cells, we researched how they just work and work, powering our bodies, and then they eventually die. Is that all I'm supposed to do? Am I just supposed to trek on aimlessly, making meaningless goals just to suffer and suffer and die in the end? Everyone is always saying how wrong it is to end it and that if everything doesn't make sense, I should just have fun and enjoy life to the fullest, but I'm already trying to do that. My fullest is just not enough… I don't want to end things, but I'm just so confused and apprehensive about my life. If anyone has any advice, I would really appreciate it, and apologies not only for writing so much but also for the people who had to read this; I hope that the people who did force themselves to read to the end has a good morning, evening, or night.

General Advice Stuck and struggling

My wife and I have been together for 10 years. Over the last several our relationship has deteriorated to the extent our sex life is virtually non existent and we rarely talk about anything. We have been trying marriage counseling, but it doesn't feel like anything has changed. If we didn't have kids I'm not sure why we would still be together. We support each other as parents, but there is no love or affection between us.

I walk our dog and have ran into this woman a few times. I know nothing about her and have only ever said hi, but her warmth and presence melts me. I'm not fooling myself. There is no reality where anything happens between us, and yet my brain won't let it go. The idealization of her just sort of tortures me.

I don't know what advice I'm looking for. I just feel absolutely stuck. I love my kids and they are a huge bright spot in my life, but beyond them I just feel so alone.

Family Advice My dad is grooming me for a the family business I have no interest in

• Upvotes

For the past 5 years, my dad has been developing 700 acres of land to turn into a campground resort. He’s spent well over $1 million and he tells me all the time that I (25M) will soon inherit it and have to take over the management.

His reason is because he wants me to take care of my siblings (13F and 14M) and my own family when I’m older.

The problem is: I don’t want to manage a fucking campground 3 hours away. I have dreams for myself and a family that I want to create too. And I don’t want to be responsible for my siblings. I have other dreams and passions in my life and every time he tells me that “I have to be the one to take over”, I just can’t sleep at night. It’s so much responsibility for a family that I didnt create, he did.

I’m afraid to tell him that it’s not my dream, just his. He tells me it’s his dream to leave something behind for his kids, but he doesn’t realize that it’s a blessing and a burden. I don’t want to be responsible for 700 acres of land, on top of all the other land assets that he has. Well over $50k per year in property tax alone.

For context, I’m 25, I get paid $100k/year to work a cushy IT job I couldn’t care less about. I am also currently working on renovating and turning one of our properties into an Airbnb, short-term rental business.

It’s just way too much for me right now and I don’t know how to handle it all. How can I make time for my dreams? I can’t just throw away an amazing opportunity to work for myself and provide for my family off the investment that my dad made.

Is this just part of being a man? Making the sacrifices for your family at the cost of yourself? Does the responsibility get easier? Less daunting?

Relationship Advice Where should I move?

• Upvotes

I am an East Coast girl desperately trying to choose a place on the West Coast to move!!!

My boyfriend was offered an amazing opportunity to work for a company residing in any of the major cities on the West Coast (San Diego, LA, San Francisco, Portland, Seattle). We've known this was a possibility since April of 2026, and have visited the West Coast twice since then. However... I have no idea what to do. I am from a small town in rural MD, not too far outside of D.C. I'm 22 and have never lived anywhere else. I love where we live; it's accessible, easy to travel to lots of different states, slow-paced, but easy enough to get to the city for better food options, concerts, and big events. I love it, but I do want some change. San Diego and Portland are my top choices.

My biggest hurdle is the weather. I teach outdoors and really REALLY do not enjoy the winter weather in MD. I love teaching, but we had a pretty brutal ice storm last year that taught me this kind of climate just isn't for me. I feel like San Diego has 0 available land for the kind of outdoor programs I want to get into, but Portland has several thriving nature schools. San Diego is always kind of warm; will I miss the seasons? Oregon has lots of land, but is it always gloomy and wet? I've only visited twice, and we really need to make our decision by January at the latest. I guess I'm asking what locals would recommend: any commutable towns on the West Coast that offer a more relaxed environment with access to the city? Is Norcal a good compromise? Any fellow East Coast people who can reassure me this is a good idea?

My boyfriend is flexible with where he goes, but I'm worried I will not be able to find what I'm looking for out there and feel really stuck. His contract would only be for two years, but for some reason it all feels very permanent. Sorry for the rant; I'm going crazy thinking of this every single day. I want to step out of my comfort zone... but also be responsible and know what I'm getting into. Thank you!

General Advice How do I better motivate myself?

I just turned 18 and recently started community college. Aka, still living at home.

I have 3 classes which take at least 4 hours each per week to get through hw. I also have a blue collar job and pets, which of course is a lot of work. Im also trying to stay healthy: sleeping enough, working out, drinking enough, bulking, etc.

Im basically working my ass of from when I wake up around 6am on school days (around 10 on work days (I work 1-7 usually)) to when I go to bed at around 12am. Which of course doesn't give me enough sleep a lot of the time, cause why would it.

Between hw, my job, all my pets and staying healthy, im losing my mind. Im always mentally and physically exhausted.

I keep falling into the trap of going on my phone for a minute to unwind so I can focus again, and get sucked in for like an hour, even if I set a timer. Ive thought of rewarding myself with buying something. But im broke and if I hve money I just buy stuff whenever i want to. I've tried using my phone as a reward, but eventually I realize it's my rules so I can change them.

I know that if I could stay off my phone and just get to work, I could probably get my stuff done when it needs to be. But I also use podcasts and music and shows to motivate myself, which doesn't always work, and I'll just end up on my phone again.

I also don't drink that much caffeine, i have energy powder that I mix into my watery for work and occasionally bring coffee or drink a 'bang' energy shot for school. But I don't want to drink stuff like that all the time, cause that's sure as hell not healthy.

I know i don't have it that bad and I'm really privileged to be where I am, but im really struggling and I'm working myself to the point of exhaustion.

I dont know what to do 😭 please help.

Serious Weekend of fun ❄️ after months of none and now a test, just my luck!

Over the weekend on Friday night into Saturday 10/23-10/24 my friend came over with 1.2 grams of coke for a weekend getaway and after a long few weeks at work going non-stop I gave in after about 4 months of being a clean whistle. Between me and my friend in a 27 hour period we finished it all at about an even amount for each of us
I’ve been applying for job after job trying to get away from this job that is working me nonstop with no days off right now
It’s just my luck that after a weekend of fun that a job would call me on Monday (yesterday) to ask me to come in for a Lab based 5 panel urine & etg and five panel & etg hair follicle testing…. This job is extremely good and will make a huge difference in my future. I’m so worried that I’m not going to be able to pass these tests and was wondering if anyone had any advice on what they’ve done or what I could do. I need to test by Friday this week…
I shouldn’t have done the fun and I know that especially now but i work my ass off and do my best to stay on the straight arrow but a little fun every once in awhile should be fine

TW: Suicide Talk hii advice maybe?

I don’t even know how to start this lol. but basically Im a senior in high school and I’m having a hard time navigating my life rn and just need some advice from a wiser stranger. my parents are divorced and I live with my mom, who has developed severe depression since the divorce (police has came to our home because she was thinking about suicide and stuff) and this has really taken a toll on us. she hasn’t had a job in a few years and still refuses to acknowledge she needs help or even that she’s sick. on top of that she actually (from what she’s said) can’t even find a job. we’ve been moving homes a lot and now were in social housing in a small little flat with one room, where we seldom go a few days without food or a week or two without electricity. I live in a fairly big city, where all the families seem perfect so I’ve honestly been going to great lengths to hide my environment from my classmates. my mom is recently convinced that she needs to go out of this country to actually find a job (she was born in a country two countries over from ours, east - less developed, so I’d be super scared to go there because I don’t even speak the language or anything. I’ve been trying to imagine what it’d look like and I just feel so stranded) and has given me a choice to either go with her there and quit in person school- basically only go for exams or go to my dads (who lives 2 hours from us by car). what do I do?? to me my life seemed hard even then but now I kinda just feel stuck. idk if I should even consider going to my dads because to be completely honest I just feel kinda unsafe with him (kinda only got bad experiences w him), I can’t even sleep without the doors locked. and also he doesn’t even live in a proper house, I wouldn’t have my own room and honestly trying to fit into a new group of people would be so exhausting. I’ve been with the classmates I have now for like 2 years and honestly I feel like I fit in less each passing day. and also its already two months into senior year idk how I could ever fit in with the new crowd or what reason for moving I’d make up for my current classmates. I’ve really tried to stay positive and believe everything’s going to work out with my mom but I just dont know whay to do. I have to use my scholarship money to buy us food, I’ve tried encouraging her to write more job applications but it seems to be a big struggle for her. she gets mad and yells at me for only wanting material things. super vulnerable post so please don’t be too harsh in the comments please I’ve really tried to make things better, best I could navigate, by getting a job but honestly getting home from school at 5pm + needing to study doesn’t really give me much time. idk maybe I’m just super dramatic and weird but this feels too much for me and I just really don’t know what to do. and also no I don’t have any relatives that could look after me or anything. I can’t live alone because a.) too poor b.) don’t wanna get made fun of and gossiped about.

General Advice 27 yo male lost and afraid , need real advice from people who (know) from experience.

When I was 15 I dropped out of high school during Jr year never liked school, I had alot of anxiety and was addicted to smoking weed . When I turned 17 I found my first job as a plumbing apprentice I lasted for 8 years as a plumber . On October 2024 I got sick from a virus , not sure if it was covid but it was enough for me to quit my job because I wasn't able to breathe properly for a whole year up until till February of 2026 . On March of 2026 I started feeling better again and started losing weight and was preparing myself to go back to work and I also found jesus christ and felt strong . On June 17th of 2026 about 4- 5 months ago from today It was my first day back at work , I was happy because my boss gave me my job back and even gave me a better salary then from where I left off .On that same day on my first day back to work , I got back home and it was a super duper hot day , I fell asleep on my bed and I woke up at night with a burning sensation on my head , I was so dizzy and felt like I was going to faint , so I told my brother to take me to the hospital, they did blood work and doctors said everything looks normal and suspected I was just "dehydrated' so they gave me an iv bag and sent me home after 3 hours at the hospital, they told me to rest and make an appointment with my primary care doctor. I saw my primary doctor about a week after and he said " its normal for people to feel dizzy in the heat " he did not take my symptoms seriously, I was suffering with dizziness and headaches , I also had to quit my job again after just a week of going back to work . So a month passes by hoping that I would feel better and I scheduled a doctors appointment with a different doctor and she took me more serious , in August of 2026 they took an mri scan of my brain and found a little tiny cyst in my brain and fast forward today, they are still doing test on me , I've seen 3 specialist, done 2 mri and 4 different types of blood work anf doctors tell me that they dont really know whats going on with me and that it doesn't make sense that a cyst so tiny would be causing these symptoms. Here i am today October 27 2026 still dealing with dizziness and fatigue and pain on the back of my neck. I just want to know if you guys where in my shoes , how would you start all over again??? I cant go back to plumbing because I cant do any type of physical activity or I feel like im about to pass out and die . Plumbing is all i know , I believe my symptoms are from a heat stroke but doctors haven't confirmed that yet, I hope and pray that I get better in the near future but for now I really cant do anything because of my health. Would the best option for me is to find a new career path and go back to school? Or should I wait a little longer and see if I get better? Im completely lost and feel hopeless , I feel like going back to school and getting my ged and finding a different job is the answer but im not sure if thats the best option, im thankful that my parents are taking care of my grown ass but I prefer to be independent like I was 2 years ago . So I ask again, IF you guys where in my shoes , what would you do ???? I really want to get a better idea from anyone who has gone through a similar situation and figured out a way to make things better . Thank you for reading this .

Mental Health Advice How do I gain ability to live a life?

My entire life was and is purposeless, I don't have any hobbies, nothing seems fun, I don't know how to talk to anyone, especially when I don't have any clue about anything because I'm dumb. I don't care about what will happen to me. There was and probably still is this stupid thing about me when I want to do something I want to do, I won't do it, because I'm ashamed of it (I'm talking about simple things like listening to music or cooking). My life is boring, like I said, nothing is fun for me. I don't go out because I probably have enormous social anxiety, I'm stressed almost all the time when I go out. I don't see my future. I'm thinking that I should not be born, I'm just a parasite. I could probably tell more, but who cares. I'm just an NPC which is just existing.

Serious My brother recorded me changing, I still don’t know how to move on

TW: Sexual assault and reference to suicide

Around two years ago my brother set up his phone in my room to record me changing. This is when I was sixteen.

My parents didn’t handle the situation that well. They got a new lock for my bedroom door, sent him to therapy, and then we all just stopped talking about it. They wouldn’t even take his phone away because he would just buy a new one.

I didn’t talk to him for six months, but at some point I stopped wanting to be angry and now we’re like siblings again. I haven’t forgiven him, I just missed having a brother. Despite what he did I love him and he is my brother.

Most days I’m fine, but sometimes I can’t stop thinking about what happened. I can never forget finding the phone or looking at my brother and not recognizing him at all.

I guess what prompted this post is that they never called the police, not for me, but when my brother realized I found the phone he took off with a bottle of pills, planning to kill himself. Why didn’t they contact the police when they were looking for him? I always thought they chose him or the family over me, but then what about when his life was in danger?

I’m looking for advice with this situation. If anyone could provide insight, I would appreciate that, especially from people who have been through something similar or who are parents/siblings. How can I move on?

Thank you

General Advice Feeling Like a Total Failure & Like I’m Behind in Life

Yall I am going THROUGH IT.

Long story short - when I was 25, I moved away from my hometown to my dream city about 10 hours away & basically lived my dream life there for several years. Then COVID hit & I started thinking about moving back to my hometown (& I should have done it then, tbh). But I ended up getting a good job that gave me great experience & sticking it out in the city for a few more years. In 2024, I started more seriously thinking about moving home & had a few interviews. & then I got laid off unexpectedly…& got a job back home a week later. I went back & forth for weeks on if I actually wanted to make the move or not but I eventually decided to, & it was ROUGH. Even though I had a job & an apartment & was back near family, I had so much FOMO from my friends back in my other city & I spent most of my time back home saying I was moving back as soon as I could.

I was back home for a year & a half before I finally decided to quit my job, move in with friends about 45 minutes outside of the dream city I had lived in, & work at the place my friend works at (I worked there briefly during COVID, too). This meant not only leaving that job & my solo apartment but also my family & (until I get my own place) my cat, who is staying with my family. My plan was to use my friend’s address to apply for jobs in the city again & then get my own place…but almost immediately, I realized I made the wrong choice. Again.

I have been here since July & have cried every single day. I wake up feeling sick to my stomach sometimes. I have applied to so many jobs back home & gotten some interviews but nothing has panned out yet. I love my friends here but my hometown is overall better for me & is where I want to put roots. I’m so mad at myself for not embracing & enjoying the opportunity I had back home. I feel like I blew up my career & my life just to what? Live with some friends & have some fun? I am 35 years old with no career, barely any money, no love life, no kids (& I think I want to have them). I have wasted the last several years living in the inbetween, where I don’t feel settled or content & am always looking for what’s next. I’m planning on moving back to my hometown but I will have to live with my family for the first time in a decade & possibly not work right away & that is going to stress me out too.

Idk how to be happy & how to move on from anything ever. My being wishy washy & moody & anxious is driving the people around me crazy & affecting my relationships. I’ve never been this depressed before.

Financial Advice Is a shorter drive worth leaving a job I love?

Hello Reddit! I am in desperate need of some blunt, honest advice.

I (20F) am a full-time college student (Monday–Thursday) graduating in 2028. Post-grad is locked in, but right now I’m having a hard time choosing between the job I currently have and a new offer closer to home.

The Context:

  • I wake up at 4:00 AM and have to leave my house by 5:30–5:45 AM just to make my 8:00 AM - 1:30 PM class on time due to traffic.
  • I just got a new car! Shoutout to my amazing parents, they cover my insurance, so my only vehicle expenses are my monthly payment and gas. Because of this, saving gas and keeping mileage off my car puts cash right back in my pocket.

Now here is the info on the two jobs.

Option A: Current Job

  • The Pay: $7.25/hr + tips (Averages $300–$440/week for 20–30+ hrs).
  • Raise Potential: I have a possible raise coming up (maybe $1 or $2 more an hour).
  • The Hours: Shifts start around 2:45–4:00 PM and end late (8:00 PM to 11:00 PM).
  • The Drive: 45–60 mins from home, but only 8–10 mins from campus.
  • The Vibe: I love my co workers and my managers! But standing in the exact same spot for hours gets super boring, and I’m starting to feel the burnout from driving CONSTANTLY!
  • The Catch: Class ends early ~80% of the time (I never have homework), leaving a massive 2+ hour "dead zone" before my shift starts. I end up driving all the way home and back just to get stuff done around the house or relax (SO MUCH GAS OMFG). Combined with getting out as late as 11:00 PM after waking up at 4:00 AM, I am exhausted. Plus, on school breaks, I’m making that 1-hour drive purely for this job.

Option B: The New Offer

  • The Pay: Flat $14/hr (Roughly 20–30 hrs/week).
  • Raise Potential: No raises unless I get promoted, which they don't do for 6 months to a year (and I graduate in 1.5 years anyway).
  • The Hours: Fixed 2:00 PM – 8:00 PM weekday shifts (no late 11:00 PM closes!).
  • The Drive: 30 mins from home, 20–25 mins from campus.
  • The Vibe: It’s a car wash, and I’m definitely overqualified in the customer service aspect of it. It’s physical outdoor work which I will thoroughly enjoy (I love physical activity and working out)
  • The Perks: Saves a ton of gas/miles on my new car, eliminates the 11:00 PM late nights, fixes the post-class waiting gap, and gives me a steady paycheck.

I am really torn between what to do at this point, I want to be able to save the most money so I can be financially independent and ready to move out when I graduate

General Advice How to make friends after high school.

Hey everyone, So I decided not to go to college after high school until I enlisted in the National Guard and got it paid for. The only problem is majority of my social circle has gone to college and i’ve lost my other friends from unfortunate circumstances. So now it’s just me and my Gf and while she’s great I kinda need some bros if that makes sense. But that brings me to my question. How do you make friends after school. It used to be “oh you’re on the same sports team as me” boom easy as that friends for the next 4 years. I know I can’t be the only 18 Y/O with this issue so if yall got any advice that’d be appreciated.

Career Advice Career change and looking for advice

My fiancé and I (both 28) are ready to leave federal wildland firefighting after 6–7 years. The money has been great and it’s hard leaving a secure federal job but it’s a job you have to be 100% committed to, and the love for it just isn't there anymore. We’re in a solid financial spot with about $200k in savings and no debt outside of our mortgage, but we are completely stuck on what step to take next. We are both extremely hard workers and ultimately really want to start a business (have toyed with the idea of tree service) but we're also open to college or trade school and are experiencing major analysis paralysis. Starting over at 28 makes me feel a bit anxious and behind in life even though I know it’s not too late I just want to make sure whatever path we choose next is something we can stick with long-term. Just looking for some paths or general advice.

Career Advice Little lost in life

So I’ll start off with I’ve had some health issues that I still battle with. I have ehlers Danlos and MCAS which the Ehlers-Danlos basically affects all my joints and all my body I’m constantly having issues with something. The Mcas is a whole different rodeo long story short, my body will make anything an allergy if it feels like it that day. That being said I hadn’t been really working for a lot of my life because I was more so focused on finding out what the heck was wrong with me.
Which leads me to now, I’ve had a couple horrible jobs. I worked at a retirement home. I worked at the corner store. Try out janitorial that didn’t work out for me. Then I went to the cannabis factory. This is before the allergy problem was a problem then it became a big problem.. which I had to quit and live off my savings for a while I job hunted. Ended up being a nepo hire at the worst office known to man. And unfortunately, I am a very sought out person there. I’ve shown that I’m a good worker and that just means more work, and not so much pay. And then I had a serious family death that was very, very unexpected and extremely traumatic. But with this current Office, it smells so bad in there like something‘s dead in there and no one cares enough to look and see what the problem is. I mean, they hire Joe Schmoe but he seems to never figure it out so me with my allergy problem again this is a problem. I can’t up and quit because the healthcare system has basically milked my bank account. Not to mention the benefits are near to none. We get the most minimal amount of sick time that our state allows and no PTO. And the things regarding my family member that passed away are still ongoing.

So I need to find a job I don’t know what to look for. I’m good and leadership. I’m a great mediator. But I don’t know what kind of jobs to apply for and being as I’m in medical everything that pops up is medical and I don’t wanna be in that field anymore. I feel like this post is kind of strange, but I don’t really have anybody to ask these questions too.
School was never my thing so if I wanted to get a certificate, I’d be down, but I don’t know where to start.
I’m being treated pretty badly at this place and it’s taking a toll on my physical and mental health.
Or if anyone has any leads on remote work, that would be nice.
Thank you for your time reading this.
