Tourism Freemasons in Lahore? Phase 5

So I’m in Lahore on a vacation, currently staying at a relative’s home in DHA Phase 5. I’m curious about a house nearby. There’s a house near Tehzeeb Bakery in Phase 5 that has these weird, red carpeted walls and a lot of security cameras everywhere. I heard a rumor that the house is used for freemasonry and their meetings, but I’m struggling to believe it.

Is anyone familiar with the house and its history? What’s up with the red walls and weird symbols? I think they have horse statues outside too.

Tourism Why is Minar-e-Pakistan full of creeps?

Lahore is absolutely magical, the food, the culture, the old city vibes. I'm obsessed. Heard a lot about the wealthy/open-minded crowd there and honestly most places lived up to that.

But then I went to Minar-e-Pakistan.

And that's where things got weird 💀

I'm born and raised in HK so I don't wear hijab yet, something I want to do in the future but it's tough in a non-Muslim country. That day I was fully covered in desi clothes, just no scarf. And the stares were insane.

Guys were pointing at me. Someone took a picture. One asked why I wasn't wearing hijab. Never experienced this in other cities of pak, just here.

The confusing part? I saw plenty of other girls in Lahore without hijab too. So why was it such a big deal when I was there??

Not hating on Lahore, genuinely loved it. Just need to understand why Minar-e-Pakistan specifically attracts this energy. Anyone else deal with this?? 😭

Tourism Is Lahore safe to visit?

I really need some honest opinions please. We’re originally from Pakistan and I’ve been wanting to go back for years. My parents always tell me it’s unsafe and decline. I’ve seen other family and friends visit and even solo travellers. I know you’ve got to have your wits about you and be cautious of course.

The problem is every time we’ve been to Pakistan all we’ve done is stay with family for a wedding, and not explored any of the country. I would love to stay in a big city like Lahore etc and actually visit the sites and explore around.

I am an experienced traveller. I know how to speak Urdu fluently and am not a coconut lol. Can people in Lahore please give me their honest advice- if say 2 or 3 ladies came as part of a group and stayed in Lahore (reputable hotel or Airbnb), would they be able to enjoy their time there safely? Obviously I mean getting home before dark etc.

I see vlogs of white girls travelling north Pakistan alone 😭 so surely it cannot be that crazy unsafe?

I’d love to see the Badshahi mosque, go to the rooftop restaurants, visit the bazaars and malls etc. Advice please!

Tourism Does Lahore have a tipping culture at restaurants?

Recently visited Lahore. My wife was born in Pakistan, went to dinner a few times with her family. I have this tendency to always leave 20% or more tip if it was good.

One of the dinners came out to about 25000 PKR, I left 10000 PKR because I was really happy with the food and service, but her family was telling me not to do it because it’s going to become expected. To me though, it doesnt seem like too much because of the currency exchange. The waitresss looked really happy though.

Tourism why cant my foreigner friends stay with me during their trip

had some friends from the US planning a trip here for around 1.5ish weeks but found out that you cant apparently host them at your own residence. not like they cant afford a hotel or anything, its just for convenience purposes (also it'd be fun lol)

ive been told you cant host them, but why? like people on tourist visas and all.

Tourism Wish there was a female specific indrive

I looked at the rates of indrive to my uni today because didn't feel like going local today as I was tired and didn't sleep all night.

and the difference between RICKSHAW and bike were HUGE . more than even thrice the amount of bike .

wish I was a guy 💔 then I would have to spend half the price at transportation.

it would be nice to have female only bikers.

CAUSE I AM GOING BROKE WITH THIS-

Tourism Lahore and Punjab's lost heritage and culture should not be banned but returned

People who are complaining about basant should know that Basant was the biggest in Lahore when we were children in the 90s. It was usually with Jashne baharan.

It is our culture, heritage and has nothing to do with religion but had become a custom. It was biggest in Lahore amongst all cities in subcontinent.

People started using illegal threads and easy solution govt did was ban it instead of comprehending the outlaws.

Melas, Vesakhi or harvest festival, bull or cattle racing, nautankis or Punjabi street shows and horse racing or tent pegging. Most were banned or were shunned due to lack of govt support.

"Melas" were the soul of rural Punjab.

Every small city and even villages had melas. It had kabbadi competitions, wrestling, circus and stage shows. They were termed unislamic or vulgar. Govt instead of catching a small percentage of miscreants banned almost all of them or limited them to URS.

Economic impact of this culture is huge. As of now billions have been spent by regular people to celebrate Basant.

Tourism Lahore Airport Mural Appreciation

Post image
112 Upvotes

I’ve traveled through this airport for nearly half my life but frankly never paid attention to how beautiful this mural of Lahore is? The sunlit landmarks, the dancing horse with the baaja band. The canon, the artists and craftsman doing their thing, the videographer with one of those old vintage camers, the kites, the PIA airport. Makes me nostalgic for Lahore haha.

It’s right next to gate 24 in the departure lounge. Who made this?!

AI ki kabhi itni aukaat nahi hosakti. Human takhleeq FTW (I digress)

Tourism Avoid Snap Pakistan/Dostangi

6 of my friends and I booked a one-day trip to Miranjani through an event listed on Ticketwala, organized by Snap Pakistan/Dostangi. It was advertised as an all-girls trip, comfortable travel, and a painting activity.

We were supposed to leave Friday night. We got to the pickup point on time and waited. The van came almost two hours late, and the organizer wasn't communicating with us at all, we didn't know if we were going or just stuck there. Some delay is expected, but two hours of silence was ridiculous.

When the van finally arrived, we realized it wasn't even the all-girls trip we paid for. There was a couple and three of the organizer's guy friends in there too. We brought it up since it was advertised as no-stags, and she said they're not stags because the 3 guys are a couple (???).

She then tried to squeeze four of us into a back seat that only fits three, or wanted to split us up with the guys in the back and us up front. The female trip organiser even had an issue when her guy friend/maybe fellow organiser? Said that the guys can sit in the back - she literally said to our face that she wants to sit with those guys so we (4 people) should go sit in the back and let them sit in the front. We didn't want that, we wanted three in the back and the rest in the seats right next to it. She had a problem with every request we made.
They'd also forgotten the paints for the painting activity they advertised, so they had to go buy them on the spot while we waited even longer.

A second woman then showed up late and said she was taking over, and assured us we didn't need to worry anymore. Shortly after, she admitted she was only there because she needed a ride partway for herself. She wasn't running the trip, she was using us for a lift.

The driver and the organizers then got into an actual fight. My friend's father, who was outside waiting to see us off, saw that the female organiser and the girl that came late chose to sit in the front seat (2 girls in the front seat) which the driver obviously was not okay with. The driver objected to it and to how he was being spoken to, got out, opened the trunk, and threw all our bags out, saying he wasn't taking us.

People started backing out after that. Three of my friends left first, as their parents said this group clearly didn't know what they were doing and the driver was incredibly unreliable. The couple backed out next. It was down to four of us. Then the three guys, unable to find another ride, said they'd go to Shogran instead and told us to go ahead without them. With nobody left to run the trip, we backed out too. We paid 10,000 rupees each for this and never even left the pickup point.

The next morning she messaged me apologising and then proceeded to ignore my the whole day when I asked her to process the refund asap. I've since emailed Ticketwala directly, but their refund process apparently requires the organizer to confirm the event didn't happen before they'll process anything, which is a serious problem when that same organizer is ghosting everyone. It's concerning that Ticketwala lets organizers like this list events with zero accountability.

After I called her and spammed her a bit, she assured me that she’ll send the refund link by Monday.

Overall horrible experience and it’s insane that unverified “companies” can just list their events on ticketwala like this. It was as if this friend group wanted to go, and they thought about making some extra cash on the way by arranging this trip.

Tourism 14 Day Trip from Lahore to Baku, any Tips & Guidance

Hey everyone,

I’m planning a 14 day trip from Lahore to Baku and would love some guidance from anyone who has experience traveling this route.

I want to ensure a smooth departure from Lahore without any issues or risk of being offloaded at the airport. If you’ve traveled recently, I’d really appreciate your tips for avoiding strict scrutiny at Lahore immigration.

Any dos and don’ts at the airport to make the departure hassle free?

Recommendations for things to take care of before the trip.

Travel buddy: If anyone is traveling to Baku around the same time, let’s connect!

Any advice, personal experiences, or checklists would be super helpful. Thanks in advance!
