Prospective Student Transfer from CC?
Hey all I'm a community college student that wants to transfer to LMU for English as a junior and I'm just wondering if anyone here has personal experience with this or knows anyone who transferred from a CC so i can get some insight on what i gotta do. It's only my first year I've still got time to build a good gpa and application.

what cc are you transferring from if you don't mind me asking? I am currently at LMU and transferred from community college in 2024. My plan while at cc wasn't specifically to transfer to LMU, so I didn't check if my classes transferred over until I was practically done at cc. Surprisingly most of them did. The only ones I was majorly missing was the LMU required theology classes, but unless you go to a religious school it might be difficult to fulfill in advance. If you want more in-depth specific class information I'm willing to share, but I am a Studio Arts major so certain things may differ. I would also encourage you to reach out to the English department advisors. I didn't do anything extraordinary at cc, but I did get straight As every semester except for my first one, so always keep grades and GPA up. The application is fairly easy to be honest, if you have a decent college admissions essay, you're good to go!

Transfered from CC many years ago- THIS is the smart thing to do financially. I was a bit older and didnt care about the "college experience" but folks were generally very friendly and the life and CC experience helped immensely with taking classes seriously and appreciate the resources and opportunities available.
If you just want a degree or a few years of college life, LMU will be a costly waste of time. From what I understand tuition has increased and aid decreased.

review the articulation agreements that lmu has with your community college to get an idea of what coursework transfers and applies to your GE.

I just transferred in this semester from a cc. I only did three semesters and still transferred in with over 50% of my requirements completed. While I was at cc, I reached out to LMU faculty (send emails) about what classes I needed to take for my desired major to transfer in. Use assist.org, which is a great tool to show you what courses at your cc are equivalent to those at LMU. And if you take English related courses at your cc, a lot of those can apply to your major, make requests to get courses waived. In terms of your social life and tuition, the social life here is great if you are social and make the most of it. I've been here for a few weeks and met hundreds of new people, just get involved on campus and put yourself out there (it might seem had after being at a cc but so worth it). As a transfer, there's a good chance that you will get some type of merit scholarship if you keeps your grades up, I had a 3.9 and get a couple thousand dollars off my tuititon each semseter because of it. If tuition is still high, you can also submit an appeal for a lower cost, they're flexible. Good luck, hoping this works out for you!
