Question/Advice Needed Advice on cat sitting and kitten

• Upvotes

I adopted my little Diana 3 months ago. She was a 3-month-old stray kitten from Cyprus and the first few days were quite difficult. She mostly hid and wouldn’t eat or drink, and cried the whole night. Obviously, she was shaken from the traveling and from being separated from her littermates.

I trusted in the 3-3-3 rule, gave her time and tried to create a safe space for her to come out of the shell, and I would say she warmed up to me pretty quickly. She is now 6.5 months old and has grown into a confident and highly energetic kitten, who is very attached to me but also quite social when guests come over (she doesn’t like big groups though).

Also, I do mostly work from home, but I go to the office at least twice a week. I commute as well, so she spends around 8 to 10hrs alone and mostly sleeps or looks outside the window. No crying or weird behavior. She does sleep with me, but I did have to lock her out my bedroom in a couple of instances and she did okay.

All this context to say that her initial trauma led me to develop some anxiety about her and her well being, especially about thinking of leaving her alone with a sitter for upcoming vacations or small work trips. I love her and she definitely is my priority but I don’t want to give anything up to my anxiety.

I would like to visit my family for a week this Christmas. By the time she’ll be 8 months old and I’m trying to plan for a sitter to either come twice a day or stay in my apartment. She has an automatic feeder and gets multiple scheduled meals a day (routine), so my main goal is to find someone that can play with her as she really loves and needs that stimulation.

I know she is quite young but I also think that if she gets used to that earlier she wont suffer that much.
Therefore, I am planning a trial weekend away (I will be leaving on Saturday morning and coming back on Sunday night) so that she can be alone at night for the first time to see how she handles it. I will have the sitter coming on Saturday night and Sunday noon, so she can get to know her too and it won’t be that disrupting for my upcoming trip in December.

What do you think? She will be 6.5 mo for the trial weekend with drop in visits and 8 mo for the trip (either house sitting or 2x visits a day).

I could totally skip my family visit, but I kinda see it as a way to rip off the band aid, hopefully see that she is fine and not worry too much about the future. Plus, finding a sitter I can rely on in the future as well would give me peace of mind too.

Still figuring it out, just here to ask for some advice :)

Question/Advice Needed Kitten

• Upvotes

I just got a kitten a couple of weeks ago and he is now 10 weeks old and he has a really bad biting problem. I know it’s probably teething or something but any recommendations on how to get my kitten to stop biting and scratching up my hands and feet? I’ve tried many times to automatically redirect his attention to a toy but it only lasts so long and he wakes up in the middle of the night doing the same thing. Any advice is greatly appreciated thank you for your time

Question/Advice Needed 3mo old kitten, 1week into adopting him, I’m losing my damn mind

I know it’s very soon but I am already feeling burnt out and exhausted. I researched and knew what I was getting myself into with getting a kitten. But I’ve hardly slept, can’t get anything done, and he is constantly screaming.

We have a 3 year old female cat and have been isolating him in a separate room during the adjustment. They have interacted a few times already with only a few hisses and a clawless swat or two, after which they were separated.

The first 2 days all he did was sleep and cuddle. Now he is rarely sleeping and cannot stand being alone, and even when we are with him he is restless, under stimulated, constantly yelling, and he is LOUD. I played with him hard all night and he still won’t settle down. I am hearing phantom meows even when I can’t hear him. I got pheromone plug ins which helped my older cat a lot but hasn’t helped with him at all. I feel constantly guilty hearing him cry and scratch at the door, and guilty for not having enough energy or time to satisfy him.

I know it’s very much the early days but I hope to god we will be past this soon. Any advice or reassurance would be helpful.

Agatha recently turned 5 months old on the 22nd!! I got her when she was 7 weeks old and I feel I practically birthed her 😭 she doesn’t actively look for cuddles but is always in the same room as someone and needs attention constantly.
she rules this house and my heart, she has been such a great help for my mental health this past months and I am so grateful to have her on my side <3

She is Kiki, she was one of my first cats, she was very spoiled but that's how we loved her. I had her since 2022 and she passed away this year on Mother's Day. I made her a makeshift gravestone with a leaf. She used to carry leaves and leave them at my front door; there came a point where I couldn't walk without stepping on one. I really miss her doing that.

Question/Advice Needed 3 month old kitten is “too clingy”.

Post image

I know how the title sounds but please listen to what I have to say. I don’t know if anyone else has ever dealt with something like this but I’m at a loss. My one year old tortie had 3 kittens in July of this year (yes, she’s fixed now). Two girls and a boy. All 3 of them have been incredible kittens and I’m so so happy with them. Here’s where my dilemma is. The only male in the litter is SUPER attached to me. That’s not the part that bothers me. What bothers me is when he wants to cuddle. He’s absolutely relentless about it. One example is he refused to let me sleep one night because he wanted to cuddle. I let him cuddle with me but he wasn’t satisfied with it. He wanted to nearly suffocate me to death because he wants to be so close to me. Next example is when I’m at my desk and need to do something he crawls across my computer, climbs on my shoulder, cries, gets in my face and he just won’t stop. I’ve tried everything. Putting him down, closing him out of the room (he cries and panics) and nothing I do deters him. I do have my moments where I don’t want to cuddle him. He’s not satisfied with just my lap. He wants to be in my arms or on my chest. I realize that he’s just a baby but he’s never been denied anything in his life and I’m not sure if I created a problem. I’ve been there for him and his sisters since they were born but I’ve had their father since he was born also and he’s never been as clingy as his own son is. What do I do about this when I can’t have him clinging so tightly to or trying to sleep. I spend hours just trying to pacify him. I’m stubborn to a fault and that doesn’t work. What do I do? Picture of said kitten.

I work at a car workshop, and this stray cat that wanders around seems to have given birth among some of our inventory

They're peeing and pooping on new car parts so they definitely can't stay there

I see two paths with their various pros and cons

Path 1:

Put the cats in a box near where I found them and wait for the mom to come take them

Pros: they get back to their mom

Cons: people in my country do NOT like cats and the stray isn't the kind of stray you pet, it's the kind of stray you see but once you get close it runs off and vanishes

They will be stray cats in a country with no love for stray cats

Path 2:

Some workers live at the workshop and like cats and want to take care of them

Pros: they get care and get to live calmer, easier lives

Possible office cats? 🥹

Cons: maybe the mom will be heartbroken? There might also be some mistakes along the way, like someone feeding them regular milk (I read youre not meant to do that? Never owned a cat). Though one of these coworkers owns cats

I know I sound very biased to one of these paths lol, but still, any advice? Suggestions? Secret third paths? Thanks in advance!

Question/Advice Needed My kitten flattens her ears when I pet her head. What does it mean?

I noticed this very recently. Millie does this ear motion only when I pet her on the head during snuggles. She doesn't seem bothered at all, so what might it mean? Is it a natural response to her ears being touched?

Meet Ricky Martin and Bento!

These guys ended up in my backyard, and I was finally able to catch them yesterday and bring them inside. I think they're around 8 weeks. It was important to us to bring them in (even more than usual), because one of them has a deformed paw (ectrodactyly) and certainly wouldn't last long in the wild .

They partied all night in the bathroom, exploring and playing before finally getting some sleep.

I went in this morning to give them their breakfast and try to interact, and they're still very scared (understandable, it's been less than 24 hours). Some hissing took place. One kitten was braver and came out to eat before the other one.

I predict this is going to be a fun, frustrating, and cute journey with them! Hopefully each day they'll trust us more and more and start to interact, but I'm not rushing or pushing anything. (I would like to get them socialized enough to be picked up so that I can bring them to they vet.)

Question/Advice Needed New kitten is so skinny and eats so little

Just got a 9 month old, she’s been on kitten kibble at the shelter. She’s quite skinny so I was excited to tackle her food needs, find what she likes, get her on wet food and get some weight on her. But she unfortunately doesn’t really eat much. Even of her old kibble. It looks so dry and gross and she drinks so much water on the side. So I’ve been trying to slowly mix in wet food but even just a little bit and she’s not touching it.
She loves churus, and she LOVES greenies, but it’s not like I can give her only those. I’ve also tried hiding a greenie in her food and she’ll have a little more that way but then just push it around until she finds the greenie so still nowhere near enough. I’ve also tried to give her wet food separately and she’s had more than usual but even then just a few bites. I’ve tried three different ones so far, one she liked more so I think I’ll just keep trying that?

Also she keeps trying to bury her food like it smells bad or something. But actually she does the same with the water she’s knocked it over twice now lol I should get her a heavier bowl.

I have a cat already that’s pretty picky but he’s got a good weight, he always eats enough. She’s still in her starter room BTW, they haven’t met yet. So yeah, she’s way different from my old cat I’ve never met one so bad at eating yet so skinny. I’m taking her to the vet to get her last ear mite treatment in a week so I’ll bring this up then, but is there anything else I can try in the meantime?

Question/Advice Needed Found a six week old kitten and her behavior is slowly getting worst

Hello me and my bf found a six week old kitten (maybe 7 now) and she is doing great health wise. She's also been ganing weight and losing worms!! Yay! But her behavior is slowly becoming frustrating particularly for my partner as he works early mornings amd typically wakes up around 5 or 6 am. She is in her 'biting stage' I guess and she keep biting him while he is sleeping, she has been particularly hyper as of late as well. She also bites ankles and toes a lot. We've tried 'floor jail' but shes figured out how to climb her way back up, is this a phase for her? How do we train it out of her? (I really want to keep her but my boyfriend is considering not at this point if we didn't I know she'd have a loving home as we have already had many offers to take her but I really love her and want her to stay with us </3)
