Racing Kart Tips and Tricks Not another AI generated analysis app...

• Upvotes

Dev disclosure first, because this sub has every right to be tired of app posts. I'm the developer, it's a commercial product, and I ran it by the mods before posting. No link in the body, I'll drop it in a comment if anyone wants it. We are spending real money (actually a lot) on driving in real tracks with kart racers, car racers and professional sim racers, so please, give it a try without pre-judging (and also please, be rude if you feel so in the comments, we really want to improve).

I want to be upfront about what this is and is not, because I keep seeing "AI analysis" apps and honestly most of the skepticism around them is fair. An AI coach can only work with the data you feed it, and if that data is a phone GPS at 1 Hz, it is not going to tell you anything useful. You could load that into ChatGPT yourself and get the same vague answers.

I did not build an AI coach. What I actually spent the time on is the boring hard part, which is getting trustworthy data out of just a phone in your pocket. It fuses the phone's motion sensors at 100 Hz with the slow GPS to reconstruct lap times, the racing line, speed and cornering G, with nothing mounted and the screen locked. That is a real sensor fusion problem, not a plotter with a nice theme on top. This comes from my background in engineering, and interest about inertial systems and aerospace projects I worked on, moved to my hobby which is racing, and that I do not come from a wealth family, so + thousand euros data-loggers are not a thing for me...

Two proof points that made me feel it was worth sharing, out of a growing pile of real sessions rather than a couple of cherry picked ones.
First, when we could get ground truth, it held up. On one session I had official transponder timing to check against, and the app matched 20 of 24 laps within 0.1 seconds, with the four misses being the in and out pit laps that the transponder times on a separate loop. So the lap timing is measured, not guessed.
Second, and this is the part I personally find most useful for karting, you can compare your real laps against your sim laps. I practiced a track in Assetto Corsa beforehand, logged the real session with the same tool, and the speed traces, the line and the friction circle lined up closely.

That is something a generic AI coach cannot really do, because it is about the measurement and the comparison, not about prompting a chatbot.

We keep stacking more of this up across different tracks and vehicles, kart, car and sim, precisely because one or two good results prove nothing on their own. The more varied the data we throw at it, the faster the weak spots show, and that is exactly the point right now.

I'll be honest about the limits too. It will not magically find you two seconds. If you are a couple of seconds off pace, that is driving and setup, and no app replaces seat time and a good coach. What it does is give you honest high rate data and a real sim to real comparison, so you can see what you are actually doing instead of guessing.

Genuine questions for you, and I mean it, I want the honest answers and not the polite ones. For those of you already logging with a MyChron or an Alfano, is there anything phone data could realistically do that would make it worth your while, or is a proper logger just always going to win for you? (considering prices). And for the ones who both kart and sim, would a real sim to real comparison actually change how you practice, or is that just a nice gimmick on paper?

PS, since it comes up and I would rather say it than have it assumed. Yes, we use AI, mostly for testing and code coverage, the unglamorous stuff. The estimator and the sensor fusion are real engineering that took a long time to get right, not something generated by prompting a model. I would rather be straight about that than pretend otherwise.

If you are interested, please let me know in the comments and I will attach the links, videos, screenshots, and whatever you would like to see.

Thank you so much beforehand, I really hope that this do not annoy you :)

Racing Kart Tips and Tricks Karting analysis engine review

Hi everyone! I’m a karting enthusiast working on a project called AERO Analysis.I’d love to get some feedback from drivers, parents or coaches who are into karting.

The goal is to help people better understand their practice sessions-compare laps look at sectors and figure out what to work on next. You can upload timing data or telemetry files. There’s a sample session you can try if you don’t have your own data yet.

This is still a version so I’m especially looking for your thoughts on:

-Is it easy to figure out what to do when you first open the site?

-Are the graphs and explanations helpful?

-Does anything. Give unclear results?

-What would make you actually want to use it after a race or practice?
You don’t need a telemetry device. Timing-only data works fine. If your file doesn’t have a channel it will just say "not available”—no problem.

Website:https://aero-analysis.kdtnyhyrfg.workers.dev/

I’m the one making it so I’m open to any criticism. If something doesn’t make sense or feels unnecessary let me know.. If you find a bug please tell me what happened and what browser or device you used - no need to share private data.

Thanks much, to anyone who takes the time to test it. Your input really helps.

Remember, any bugs just comment on here what you found. Or if you’d also like to apply for tester, just let me know and I can give you the discord sever link!

Thanks!

Racing Kart Question Where can I find cheaper race suits?

• Upvotes

I'm in need of a new race suit soon. Keen to get something that looks good without breaking the bank. I'm leaning towards your average Sparco/OMP suits, but have seen Etsy ads for custom factory LN/KR/Tony Kart suits. Apparently these are CIK/FIA Level 2 certified, but they seem a bit too cheap to be true. Has anyone had any experience with custom suits from places like Etsy? If so are they legit? Things to keep an eye out for? Any advice is hugely appreciated

Racing Kart Question Does it look like there are any bends in my frame?

Hello!

I recently picked up a 2014 CKR SG2 chassis with a prd fireball, over all the condition was pretty good and then motor runs well as well. However going over it and getting a list of stuff to get for next season I had noticed a small bend in my nerf bar which got me worried about the frame being bent.

I checked the frame before buying it as well as after and as far as I could see I didn’t see any major or notable bends or kinks, I was wondering if someone would be able to see if it’s bent or not

If I need to strip it down to properly make sure it’s not bent which is what I was seeing I’m able to do that as well, there’s just not many karting places I’m able to take it to to get professionally looked at near me.

I was planning on replacing a lot of the drivetrain and steering components anyway to refresh to kart so the condition of those are not super important!

Thank you!

Rental Karting Question Need recommendations for karting gloves.

Hello everyone, I have been doing about a year of karting now and are looking for an upgrade for my gloves. I had a look at all the different karting gear brands and would like to ask for any recommendations to the gloves you use. Doesn’t matter if it’s homologated or not, I just need a good pair of gloves that preferably have an external seams and last long. My budgets around 50 to 150 quid. Would love to hear your suggestions. I am looking to progress to ownership karting in a few years time for uni.

One more thing, is it true that minus273 is no longer a reputable brand to buy from? Been hearing reviews about their gloves falling apart and all that jazz, heard they used to be really durable.

Many thanks.

Racing Kart Question Kart Bumper flaring - fixable or cooked

Post image

Hey folks,

Just bought my first LO206 kart and stand from marketplace, everything looks VERY clean and new except for where the rear bumper bushings insert to the rear of the frame. As seen in the pic, there is some slight flaring of the frame tube, is this a concern or a big nothing burger? The kart has been lifted by the rear bumper with a kart stand, but I think the bolt is bent as well.
