Am I Fucked? Joined a new company, but things aren't as promised

Post image
9 Upvotes

My previous company had weekends off, and my new company's HR said working days would be Monday to Friday. Now they say Saturday work may be required with no overtime or compensatory leave, and the outstation allowance is lower than promised. When I raised it, HR just said,

'This is the policy we follow for everyone.'

My salary is the same as before, and I joined for better stability,

I'm very disappointed and seriously considering resigning, but I'm confused about what to do first.

Career Advice Stuck in an IT service-based job at 23 and completely lost about M.Tech, MBA, or switching paths [Advice needed]

Post image
• Upvotes

I am a 23 year old, working in WITCH as a Project Engineer. I have a BTech in CSE, and I graduated in 2025 from MIT Manipal. I have 1+ year of work experience. Lately, I have realised that I hate IT due to the constant upskilling required, long working hours, and fear of layoffs and bench policies. Although these are not affecting me badly right now, I am afraid that i would be stuck if I stay in this industry for long, and would be helpless when I'd have to support my family on my shoulders. I feel like I'd always be on survival mode if I stay in IT field.

I was initially thinking that I'd do a MTech at Manipal itself, and go abroad for a PhD to explore research and academia opportunities. It would take at least 7-8 years for me to get into a stable career if I choose this path.

On the other hand, I was thinking of getting a Tier 2.5 MBA from private universities like SRM, Amrita.. I don't think I can crack CAT (or have the time to prepare), and I do not have the financial status to do an MBA from top business schools..

I wonder whether Tier 2.5 MBAs from universities like SRM, Amrita are even worth it, or if I would get a job after doing one..

Other options are to prepare for government exams, or to start my own business (i am from a lower middle class family, so I can't really invest much)..

I am totally confused what I must do. Please guide me 🙏 I'm so confused about myself

P.s. I have not started preparing for GATE or CAT. I started working in September 2025, and would have ~2 years of work experience by September 2027

Storytime The intern got his petty revenge on the manager

So, an intern on my team got wind that he wouldn’t be billed to the project and would be released next month.

We had a client visit, so my manager went to the Mumbai office. After work, he asked this intern what he could do to kill some time in Mumbai. And guess what? This guy legit convinced him that taking a Mumbai local is a must-have experience. 😭😂 Bro made him squeeze into a packed local and suffer through the crowd.

And now he’s been bragging for days about how he made our manager suffer. Lol these Gen Z are genuinely built different.💀😂

Career Advice Got an offer not sure about the setup, is it bad for career ahead, please help?

does this affect future prospects for jobs?

I have an offer from a place called NR consulting, they're going to lend me out to persistent, the joining date is super rushed, they gave me about 2 - 3 days, and I should go collect the laptop apparently.

So the setup is NR to Persistent systems, to end client.

Basically I'm the contractor for the persistent payroll. Idk how to feel about that I've never been a contractor, will this affect my future candidatures?

Nr lady told me that conversion will happen within 6 months and I had a call with persistent lady who told me that it'll take a year and they do convert the contractors from NR into FTE on persistent payroll.

I am in a dilemma, please let me know should I join as a contractor somewhere, and if I do, will it affect my candidature when I apply for product orgs. Im from a decent service based organisation, so I don't know how this stuff works, I haven't really gotten enough good calls, and few ones i got, the interviews were pretty rough, so idk what i can do.

Please be brutally honest.

Career Advice 6 years’ experience, but a 5-day stint is marked “absconding” by HR. How do I get hired again?

I’m a DevOps/software engineer in India with about 6 years of experience, and my earlier exits were all clean, with relieving letters. This year I joined a large consulting firm on xyz and resigned in writing within the first week, on xyz.

I made a mistake by not confirming the notice period before leaving. HR started an abscond process, I replied in writing offering to serve the notice, and HR later waived it, made no recovery and confirmed my last working day. They have told me the absconding entry can’t be removed and no relieving letter will be issued. It also shows in my PF history as a very short stint.

I’m worried it will end my job search. My questions:

Has anyone been hired after an absconding record? What kinds of companies were okay with it? Do most BGV agencies actually report “absconded,” or do they mostly check dates and designation? Should I tell the recruiter early, or wait until the offer stage? How do I word the explanation in an interview in under 30 seconds? Is an employment verification letter enough if the relieving letter isn’t issued? Are startups and mid-size companies more flexible than banks and MNCs?

I won’t hide the job on any form. I have my resignation email and HR’s emails, plus my earlier relieving letters. Any advice or personal experience would help a lot. Thanks.

Salary Negotiations Demotivated with Appraisal

I work in an EdTech and just got our appraisal letters. Despite a promotion and higher rating than last year, my hike is less than last year's.

I have 10+ yrs of experience and I know I'm being paid much below the industry standards and even the company's own standards as per salaries stated online. I'm wondering if it's even worth fighting with HR because I have 0 expectations from them.

Just sucks. Any advice on how to deal with HR in this scenario.

Career Advice Is this toxic or am I overreacting?

I am a fresher who recently got converted to a full timer after a year of internship. The thing is the company and my seniors'expectations are that I work beyond what my actual role and responsibilities are. I am expected to start working by 10 am in the morning and then attend all the client calls (since they are based out of the US) till late in the night. I have tried saying no and I avoid hopping onto any call after I close my laptop. But it's starting to get inevitable now the clients are demanding, the company's culture is demanding and the seniors are not ready to help me out with the workload, I am like a baby given a gun and told to go and fight a war by myself anyhow. I am even expected to work on my leaves (this Diwali) when I applied for the leave and got it approved my senior passed comment on it along the line "tumhe pata hai na tumhe tab bhi kaam karna padega". Being a fresher I don't know whether this is normal workplace behaviour or am I working in a toxic environment. Please help me understand how do I set boundaries so that my work doesn't spill into my life man, it's starting to burn me out so bad.

Poor Culture Tried to jump for the first time, only to get involved in an Edutech Firm's unprofessional hiring process.

Hi. I'm a Full Stack Software Engineer based out of Trivandrum. I have been working in my current company for 5 years. So I wanted to explore other opportunities and get a higher pay. So I did get a call from an Edutech Firm at Kochi for a position of Senior Software Developer for their edutech platform.

Interviews were done, Salary was negotiated and I got the role. Now the problem is my Company requires a 2 month notice period but there are cases where with the help of our manager we can leave early if there is no critical dependency. So I asked my Manager and he said yes but HR was just being plain ass and said no. Well after much discussions they gave me confirmation to leave on Nov 10th. But the new firm gave me an offer letter asking me to join by Oct 27th (THIS PART IS VERY IMPORTANT).

Now the highlight here is they asked me if I was ok with relocation and I said yes provided I get some time to plan my migration. So I was expected to relocate just like that without any time and planning. Well after much discussions I got the joining date to be in Nov 10th. So I felt all is good, yay.

Well all is NOT FREAKING GOOD. After about 4 or 5 days they called me and said they were restructuring their budget due to the new PF norms and found my Salary to be high and they wanted to reduce it. I was like, WTF bro? An offer letter is given after a budget has been determined if I'm not mistaken. This was a Red Flag no 1. After a long heated discussion, I got it slightly reduced down. Not too much. So after like 3 or 4 days, I didn't get any mail with confirmation of the new salary structure. I felt like if I don't ask for a confirmation now, they're gonna screw me and give me a lesser package during joining and will say I confirmed it. So to prevent that I asked the recruiter who called me for a confirmation.

Got the restructured salary mail, but the joining date was unchanged- Oct 27th. I called the recruiter asking for this and suddenly they're like they have an emergency now and they want me to join by Oct 27th. This call is happening on Thursday, Oct 22. I don't have a flat or accommodation sorted out yet, I don't have anything for a migration planned out yet and they expect me to be at the office on the 27th. I pleaded as much as I could till yesterday, i.e. Oct 24th. I kept telling them my office won't be able to let me go on 27th. Nov 6th is my last working day and I got that only after a lot of requests and also based on my manager's personal risk. By afternoon they were like no they want me to join by Oct 27th or they'll reject my offer. So I just said this:

"Ok. I ain't interested in joining your company. The amount of inconsideration and the after offer letter salary negotiation shows me how much of a professional firm you are. I am rejecting your offer. Good bye"

I just don't get it. Why is the Indian Hiring process so toxic and inconsiderate here? Like I didn't ask for a relocation bonus or anything and yet they expect me to do everything. I felt like if I agreed to this, then they'll feel like they can taunt me and get me to accept anything. I ain't doing that, no way.

I'd like to name and shame this firm. But I don't know if I can.

Sorry guys for this long rant, but this was going to be my first jump and it just got screwed. I was anxious and stressed the past few days. Now I kinda feel relaxed.

TLDR: An edutech firm gave me an offer letter, needed relocation, got the joining date changed to make relocation esy, firm tried to renegotiate salary after offer letter stating PF norm changes, then asked to join early after asking for salary confirmation stating immediate emergencies, I told them to go find someone else.

Salary Negotiations ₹2L Retention Bonus vs Promotion — What Should I Do?

I have 2.5+ years of experience at my current company, with a CTC of ₹4.25 LPA and a 79% compa-ratio.

No salary hike or promotion so far.
After discussing my compensation with leadership (manager’s manager), I was offered a ₹2 lakh retention bonus with a 12-month commitment. However, when I asked about promotion, I was told the current cycle isn’t possible, and the next cycle might be around April, with no confirmed timeline.

My priority is band progression and salary correction, not a one-time bonus.

What should I do?
Negotiate for a market correction now?
Accept the bonus and wait for promotion?
Start looking for a switch?
How can I get written clarity on the promotion timeline without upsetting leadership.
Would appreciate advice from people who’ve faced a similar situation.

Career Advice Manager at a large lender in India, completely burned out and it's affecting my relationship. Stay and fix it, or leave?

I manage a team of around 15 people in consumer lending at a large financial services company in India. On paper I'm a sales manager, but in practice I'm the one everything lands on: hiring against tight deadlines, daily attendance monitoring, dealer

relationships, sales numbers, customer issues. I'm also

expected to be out visiting dealers every single day. My fixed pay is in the low-40k pm, plus variable incentives.

What wears me down most is that there's no off-switch. From 9am to 10pm, my team can call me about login errors, and since only I can escalate them to the back-office team, I can't ignore the calls. Sundays are no different. Leave for my team is discouraged unless it's a medical emergency, and headcount is frozen, so if I let a non-performer go, the seat stays empty and everyone else carries the load. Iend up managing underperformers while absorbing pressure from upper management. Even asking for leave myself feels like a crime. I'm seriously burned out.

It's now causing real friction with my partner. Sunday is the only day we get, and even that is eaten by constant calls. Ive been thinking seriously about leaving. I have an MBA in Marketing and HR and earlier field sales experience in FMCG, and I'm leaning toward operations or any role where I can actually switch off.

I'd like honest opinions on a few things. Is this level of availability normal in this industry, or is my management unusually bad? Does the pay seem fair for this workload? Has anyone made the jump from lending sales into operations, a bank, or an OEM sales role, and how did it go? And if there's a realistic way to push back on the always-on expectation while staying, I'm open to that too.

EDIT- 30Y/M WITH 4 YEARS EXPERIENCE

Canteen Discussions What do you miss the most about your previous job?

Post image
223 Upvotes

Possibly, the job safety? Brand name? Comfortable job? Or maybe something? Let's say, previous boss was better, the culture there was better than the current one or few colleagues who became more than office buddies?

Well, no matter how much I loathed my previous to previous job for it being a complete desk job, understaffed and overworked, a Lala in the guise of MNC, what I loved the most was the samosas which we were offered almost once or twice a week after the morning meetings. Sometimes, it was someone's birthday, maybe something good happened in someone's family or maybe just casually "aaj samosa mangwao".

This was the best part throughout that 9-hour thankless job (excluding the commute).

Career Advice Planning to resign after 1.1 years due to a toxic work environment. Need advice.

Hi everyone,

Apologies I have used chatgpt for writing this post. Currently not in the right headspace to draft a long paragraph.

I the corporate workforce last year and currently have around 1.1 years of experience. I've been considering resigning for a while because of the toxic work culture in my current project, which has taken a significant toll on my mental health. I also want to pursue higher studies.
Today, my uncle, who was like a father figure to me, passed away. I informed my manager that I needed leave, and his response was that this was the last time he would allow it and that if this continued, we would have to think of a way out.
I'm already dealing with the emotional distress of losing someone so close to me, and this interaction made things worse. I've been under tremendous mental strain, and today's incident feels like the breaking point. I've decided that I want to resign and move on.
Since this is my first corporate job, I'd appreciate advice on a few things:
Reason for resignation: Should I mention the toxic work environment or simply state that I want to pursue higher studies?
Resignation process: What should I check regarding my notice period, early release, and employment policies before resigning?
Documents: What documents should I collect before leaving, and which ones should I obtain after my last working day? (Experience letter, relieving letter, payslips, full and final settlement, etc.)
Future prospects: Will resigning after 1.1 years negatively affect my career or future higher studies?
Other precautions: Is there anything else I should do to ensure a smooth exit and avoid complications later?
I'd especially appreciate advice from people in India who have resigned from their first corporate job or dealt with a similar work environment.
Thank you!

TL;DR: I have 1.1 years of corporate experience and have been considering resigning due to a toxic work environment. Today, my uncle, who was like a father to me, passed away. When I informed my manager that I needed leave, he said this was the last time he would allow it and that we would have to think of a way out if this continued. This was the breaking point for me. I want to resign and pursue higher studies. Looking for advice on the resignation process, necessary documents, and potential impact on my career.

News AI Success or Making Way for AI Spend

Microsoft employees at Level 70 and below qualify for VEOs. For context, Level 70 at the company represents senior leadership or a high-level technical tier such as general managers, partners or senior directors, or even distinguished engineers. The affected departments are likely to include Copilot, AI, Xbox, finance, and human resources (HR).

______

Getting rid of senior leaders and developers seems like a strategy to reduce costs rather than replace human talent with AI. 25% of their headcount will be affected.

Basically, Microsoft is investing on AI for future revenues (data centers, r&d etc) and is offsetting these costs by rationalising leadership.

Do you think companies are anywhere close to replacing 25% of their workforce through AI?

Poor Culture Ex-Branch Manager is unnecessarily delaying my asset clearance.

Yesterday was my last working day in one of the banks. I had no laptop or any other assets mapped to me since my joining. I only had my ID card, which the BM told the BOM to collect back from me.

Before exiting the branch, I sent one last mail from my work email ID to my line HR regarding this non-applicability of assets and me returning the ID to BOM and requesting HR to consider these facts to process my FNF and relieving letter.

Today I received an automated mail to my personal Email ID early morning that my asset and ID Card clearance is pending with BM. That mail clearly told the BM about escalating this pendency to upper management if BM continues delaying this. The ball clearly seems in BM's court. Why do majority of the branch managers act so unprofessionally? All I'm concerned about is my FNF and relieving letter.

Poor Culture Left my dream company within months and took a pay cut to escape a toxic work culture

Long story short — I joined my dream company, only to realise that the reality was far from the dream. Toxic culture, siloed teams, office politics, unclear goals, and a boss who valued yesmanship over honest conversations, project delivery in unreasonable timelines, made work miserable and largely meaningless.
A few months later, I chose to leave — for a job that came with a pay cut.
And honestly, I’m proud of that decision. Because sometimes, choosing yourself over a big brand, a fancy title, or a bigger paycheck is the biggest career win of all.

P.S. I do have a family to support and loans to pay with no substantial financial backing. Just here to motivate you to escape toxicity as soon as you can.

Career Advice my company just announced an AI rollout. what i'd actually do in the next 90 days (recruiter here)

i'm a recruiter and this is the question i keep getting from candidates lately. no need to panic, but don't sit and wait either. what actually helps:

  1. watch backfills, not announcements. if people leave and their seats stay empty "while we evaluate the tool", that's the real signal.

  2. if you're asked to write down your workflow step by step, do it properly, and keep your own copy. it's the most detailed description of your job you'll ever have, and it's gold for your CV.

  3. be the person on your team who actually knows how to use the tool. it's much harder to cut the one person who knows how to run the new system.

  4. write down your numbers now: tickets closed, hours saved, clients handled, revenue touched. after a rollout people get compared on output, and you want your "before" baseline.

  5. update your CV and LinkedIn this month, while you're still employed. you negotiate much better from a job than after losing one.

  6. read your offer letter again. know your notice period, notice pay and any severance terms before anyone else brings them up.

  7. if you can, keep 3-6 months of expenses aside. that's what lets you turn down a bad offer.

  8. ask your manager straight: "what does my role look like after this rollout?" a vague answer is also an answer.

if your company already went through this, what changed in the 6 months after? curious what people actually saw.

TL;DR: ignore the AI announcement and watch backfills, workflow documentation requests and output targets. update your CV, note your numbers and know your exit terms while you still have the job.

Whistleblowing Do not join a Brand named ARMORO, no matter any role.

Spoiler alert: It’s way worse than a LALA company.

I am sharing an experience, for private reasons, I shall not name the person or anyone involved. However I am writing this to make sure whoever is reading this understands well before applying for a role or position, if you are even remotely thinking about applying here. DO NOT MAKE THIS MISTAKE!

The brand is 8 years old, yet, there is no defined structure or organisational capacity to the firm. Your hiring will be undertaken by Candor Textiles which is basically a vendor organisation. And you shall be handed a “letter of intent” stating that you’re selected for the role and that your joining letter with all the details shall be assigned to you upon arrival. This is as bizarre as it sounds.

The letter of Intent shall have the brand name called Yug Brands 😂 although you’d have applied for ARMORO, you’ll keep wondering why so many names are coming up. But this is where it gets nasty. You’re entire job description shall be copy pasted from ChatGPT, thereby you shouldn’t be surprised if your manager, who happens to be the founder himself, asks you to put up a tent, or asks you to clean up the showroom. Everything falls in your job description.

If that’s not all, the founder shall justify all the action points under the name of experience/ learning.

Now the most hilarious part, your salary breakup 😂

50% of your CTC shall reflect in Basic DA which is fairly as per the labour law and the other 50% shows up in the variables, but there’s no guarantee that your salary shall get credited on time. There have been moments where my bank accounts had reflected ₹2k as the minimum balance.

The company is fucked beyond repair, the founder basically runs his life on ChatGPT, I can assure you that he even asks ChatGPT when to poop and where.

If everything is so bad, why did I join? Because I was unaware of the operations. The business is equally bad, the only ones praising their products are those who’ve received the products on discount or have collaborated with the brand.

About 43 employees have exited earlier than a month right after joining this brand.

This is my bit, hope it helps, in case if someone is looking for a job here and wants more details, feel free to reach out.

Storytime I learned office politics the hard way, will never trust anyone in the corporate.

I work in a startup, I got issues with one of my team lead because this guy does not understand requirements and when it's time discussing the features with higher table, he makes me answer to all.
So I told this situation to my manager whom I trusted and calls friend that Don't assign me work with that team lead.
This b*itch told all this to CEO and CEO of the company asked me do you have interpersonal conflicts with that team mate?

I wouldn't have trusted but it was like friendship.

Am I Fucked? Threw up in front of colleagues at an unofficial office party

I went on an unofficial office party to a bar with my colleagues. Three beers and six cigarettes in, I decided I wanted to put my head down for a while because the extremely loud music was bothering me. Somewhere during this time, I might have dozed off for a solid minute or two before suddenly waking up. The moment I woke up, I felt my head was slightly heavy and I was nauseous. The music felt louder than earlier and before I knew it, I realised my mouth was filling up with saliva.

My manager had noticed and took me to the washroom where I ended throwing up. He was nice enough to help me out, even flushed the puke and washed my face. Then once we went out again, I sat down and started throwing up even more. This time in front of all my colleagues who then came to help me out. Embarrassing. My manager took me to a more secluded area (a room of sorts) where I practically put my head on his knees and then started throwing up for the third time.

Now most of my other senior colleagues had gathered around me. I sobered up after the third vomiting episode and was able to get home in cab. I ended up apologising to my manager for ruining his night (he had a full 30 minute ordeal dealing with me). He said to chill about it and it’s pretty normal when you’re drunk and has happened to everyone at some point in their lives.

But I am a serial overthinker. Had it just been my manager, it would have been okay. But it happened in front of literally all of my colleagues who had to see my puke thrice in front of them.

Now tomorrow is a Monday and I will be facing them after that night and can’t help but be extremely nervous about how they are gonna react and how fast words gonna travel in the entire office. Did I make a fool of myself?
